Adirondack Winter Invitational Championship: #13 Arizona State Sun Devils Vs #17 Cornell Big Red December 30th 2023

It would be the championship of the first ever Adirondack Winter Invitational and it would pit a pair of top 20 teams in the country to battle it out at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY with 3,800 in attendance the #13 Arizona State Sun Devils would face off against the #17 Cornell Big Red. It would take till there were five minutes left in the opening period before we had our first goal from Cornell's Gabriel Seger on the powerplay for the 1-0 Big Red lead. Then in the second period, just 4:55 into the period the Big Red would take the 2-0 lead on the George Fegaras would score for the Big Red and give them a 2-0 lead. However, the Sun Devils would answer right back 17 seconds later to keep it a one-goal game at 2-1 on the Jackson Nieermayer goal. The game would stay there till the 43-second mark of the third period when the Sun Devils would tie the game up on the powerplay with the goal from Matthew Kopperud. That would be all on this night though as the goalies would stand tall between the pipes for the rest of the way there would be scoring in the rest of the third period and the five-minute overtime so the game goes in the books as a tie. However, because of the Adirondack Winter Invitational, the teams would go to the shootout and there the Arizona State Sun Devils would win the first-ever tournament 1-0 in the shootout. Arizona State's Tj Semptimphelter would make 25 saves while Cornell's Ian Shane would 18 in this evenly matched game now will just wait and see if the Arizona State Sun Devils will get the invite back to see if they can defend their title. Adirondack Winter Invitational Semi-Finals: #11 Massachusetts Minutemen Vs #17 Cornell Big Red December 29th 2023

Massachusetts's Cole O'Hara (19) gets down low to the ice uses his body to get by Cornell's Nick Desantis (28). It would be the opening game of the first-ever Adirondack Winter Invitational from the famed Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY and it would feature a couple of powerhouses as the #11 Massachusetts Minutemen would face off with the #17 Cornell Big Red. The game would be very physical through the first period and the rest of the game as there would be no scoring in the first but both teams would have their chances to get the opening goal and the Minutemen had an early goal waved off on the coach's challenge. In the second period, the Big Red would get the opening goal just 2:52 on Hoyt Stanley's first NCAA goal. However, the Minutemen would come charging back and tie the game up at one just four minutes later at the 6:08 mark of the period from Michael Cameron. The Big Red would regain the lead with just over five minutes left in the period on the Dalton Bancroft powerplay goal. The game would stay there through most of the third period until the Minutemen would pull the goalie for the extra stake and tie the game up on the scramble play from Ryan Lautenbach. From there the game would head to the five-minute 3x3 overtime and there would be no scoring so the game would officially end in a tie. Because this was a tournament weekend the shootout would be needed to decide the games tomorrow and the Cornell Big Red would win 2-0. In the winning effort for the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 23 saves as the Cornell Big Red head to the finals tomorrow where they will get the winner of #13 Arizona State Sun Devils and the Clarkson Golden Knights. Adirondack Winter Invitational Semi-Finals: #13 Arizona State Sun Devils Vs Clarkson Golden Knights December 29th 2023

Clarkson's Austin Roden (33) with the body save on the shot from the circle by Arizona State's Matthew Kopperud (28). It would be the second semi-final game of the Adirondack Winter Invitational and it would see the #13 Arizona State Sun Devils taking on the Clarkson Golden Knights in front of 4100 fans at the famed Herb Brooks Arena. The game would start well for the Golden Knights would get the opening goal of the game and the lone goal of the first period from Jesse Tucker at the 8:24 mark of the period for the 1-0 Knights lead. The game would stay there till the 5:27 mark of the second period when Ellis Rickwood would stretch the lead to 2-0 Knights. The Sun Devils would finally get on the board at the 9:14 mark of the period on the Jackson Niedermayer goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Then just 46 seconds into the third period the Sun Devils would tie the game at two on the short-handed goal by Charle Schoen. Then with just over minutes left in the game the Sun Devils would come back and take the lead on the Kyle Smolen goal. Then to put the icing on the cake the Sun Devils would add a pair of empty net goals from Tyler Gratton and Kyle Smolen and secure the 5-2 win. In the winning effort, Tj Semptimpheter would make 20 saves as they advance to the championship game tomorrow against the #17 Cornell Big Red. As for the Golden Knights will head to the consolation game behind Austin Roden's 21-save night and take on #11 Massachusetts in the Consolation game. Gallery

Adirondack Winter Invitational Consolation: #11 Massachusetts Minutemen Vs Clarkson Golden Knights December 30th 2023

Clarkson's Austin Roden (33) with the blocker save as part of a 19-save night and kept his team in the game. It would be the third-place game of the first-ever Adirondack Winter Invitational and it would feature the #11 Massachusetts Minutemen and the Clarkson Golden Knights at the famed Herb Brooks Arena with a crowd of 3600 in attendance. The Minutemen would strike first just 4:48 into the game on the goal from Michael Cameron to get them off to the quick 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights would keep swinging through the rest of the period and would tie the game with 1:44 left in the period on the Ryan Taylor goal. However, the Minutemen would start the second period strong again and take the lead again 4:33 into the period on the Kenny Connors goal to make it 2-1. Then just about four minutes later at the 8:49 mark of the period the Minutemen would expand their lead to 3-1 on the Cole O'Hara goal. Once again the Golden Knights would come back swinging and make it a one-goal game at 3-2 on the Mathieu Gosselin goal with 6:09 left in the period. Then with 1:26 left in the period, the Golden Knights would tie the game at three on the Ayrton Martino goal. Then when the teams returned for the third period the Golden Knights took the 4-3 lead just 42 seconds into the period on an Anthony Romano short-handed goal. The Minutemen would not go away without a fight and they would tie the game at 4 on the Linden Alger goal with 11:30 left in the game. Although neither team would be able to get the edge before the end of the period and the teams went to overtime. Then with 2:39 left in the extra frame Ryan Taylor would light the lamp to send the Golden Knight faithful home happy with a 5-4 upset win over #11 Massachusetts Minutemen. In the winning effort Austin Roden would make 19 saves as the Golden Knights go 1-1 on the weekend to get the second half started right Gallery

Applebee's Winter Classic Day 1: Rye Garnet Vs Northeastern Clinton Cougars High School Boys Hockey December 22nd 2023

A pair of Northeastern Clinton players Caeson Gacreau (5) and Winnie Simpson (18) sandwich the Storm skater between them and break up the play. It would be the consolation game of the Appebee's Winter Classic and would feature the Guilderland Storm and the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. In the opening period the teams would combine for 5 goals and the Storm would have a 3-2 lead. The three for the Storm would come from Keegan McGovern and Klaidi Ginghi while scoring for the Cougars would be Scott Wryre and Owen Ebersole. In the second period, the Storm would add another two goals from Quinn Rice while the Cougars would add one more from Winnie Simpson as the Storm would take a 5-3 lead into the third period. In that third period, the teams would combine for 8 goals. The Storm would have a pair of goals in the period from Quinn Rice and Joe Kosier. While the Cougars would get 6 goals in the period including a span in the period where the Cougars would score 4 goals in 3:12 scoring in the period would be Owen Ebersole (twice), Winnie Simpson (three), and Garrett Pilon as the Northeastern Clinton Cougars would get the 9-7 win. The Northeastern Clinton Cougars return to action on December 30th as they host out of Rice Memorial Green Knights. Gallery

Applebee's Winter Classic Championship: #11 Rye Garnet @ Beekmantown Eagles High School Boys Hockey December 23rd 2023

Beekmantown's Zach Lapier (19) slides it past the goalie for the score. It would be the championship game of the latest edition of the Applebee's Winter Classic and it would feature the #11 Rye Garnets and the host Beekmantown Eagles. The host Eagles would get off to a good start as they would score just 2:4 into the game on the Edward Sweenor goal. Then just under two minutes later the Eagles score again this time from Sam Bingel putting him just 1 point away from 100 points in his career. Then with 3:38 left in the first period, the Eagles would score again as Edward Sweenor would get his second of the game for the 3-0 Eagles lead. In the early moments of the second period, the Garnets would get on the board to make it a two-goal game on the Ryan Draddy goal. Then at the 5:02 mark of the second period the Eagles would get a goal lead back at 4-1 on the Zack Lapier goal but Sam Bingel would get the assist to secure his 100th career point. The Eagles would start to put the icing on the cake just 55 seconds after the Louis Swennor goal to give the Eagles the 4-1 lead. Then with three minutes left in the game freshmen Edward Sweenor would finish off his hat trick and give the host Eagles the upset 6-1 win and the Winter Classic title. Gallery.

Beekmantown's Novak Jarus(9) with the shot on net that looked like it was going to sneak under the arm but Edward Sweenor would knock in the rebound for the goal. It would be the opening day and opening game of the 2023 edition of the Applebee's Winter Classic from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The Storm would get the opening goal of the game with 3:30 left in the first period on the Keegan McGovern goal. The Eagles would come back and tie the game up at one on the Edward Sweenor goal with 41 seconds left in the period. In the second period, the Eagles would get a pair of goals from Edward Sweenor and Novak Jarus as the Storm would get one but the Eagles would take the 3-2 lead into the third period. In the third period, the teams would combine for 6 goals. The Eagles would get the first goal of the period just three minutes into the period from Louis Sweenor as he dumped the puck into the zone for the 4-2 lead. The Storm would answer right back 30 seconds later to make it a one-goal game again at 4-3 on the Klaidi Gijini goal. From there the Eagles would come back with three unanswered goals from Sam Bingel, Edwin Sweenor, and Keegin Rodier as they would secure the 7-3 win. Applebee's Winter Classic Day 1: Rye Garnet Vs Northeastern Clinton Cougars High School Boys Hockey December 22nd 2023

Rye's (3) stuffs it by Northeastern Clinton's goal for the Garnet goal. It would be the second game of the 2023 edition of the Applebee's Winter Classic from the Ronald B Stafford Arena and it would feature the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Rye Garnet. In the opening period, the teams would combine for eight goals with the Rye getting six goals while Northeastern Clinton would get goals from Wayne Simpson and Owen Ebersole. In the second period, there would be another three goals as the Garnets would extend their lead to 8-3. In the third period, the teams would combine for another seven goals with the Garnets getting four goals and Cougars getting another three thanks to Owen Ebersole and Wayne Simpson as the Rye Garnet would get the 12-6 win. The winning effort the Rye Garnet will play the Beekmantown Eagles for the tournament title. While the Northeastern Clinton Cougars will get the Guilderland Storm in the 3rd place game. Gallery.

High School Boy's Hockey: Saranac Spartans @ Rice Memorial Green Knights December 20th 2023

Saranac's Shawn Mclane would make the pad save to keep his team in and fighting all game long. For their third straight game, the Saranac Spartans would travel out of state and take on the Rice Memorial Knights from Burlington, Vermont at the Cairns Arena and would look to continue their good weekend. It would take most of the opening period but the home Knights would get the first goal of the game with 1:54 left in the period on Preston Wheeler's goal to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. The Spartans would keep coming though and tie the game up about halfway through the second period on the Adrian Barnes go from the offensive faceoff circle to beat the goal. However, just about four minutes later the Knights would answer back and retake the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Oliver Quong powerplay goal. The game would stay there till there were just under six minutes left in the game when the Spartans would tie the game up again on the Ryan Campbell goal. From there both teams would give their chances for the game-winner in the last minutes of the period and the five-minute overtime so the team would end the game tied at 2. So the Spartan's record will go to 2-2-1 on the season as they head into the Christmas break and their first league game against the Beekmantown Eagles on December 30th at A.C. North Arena. Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Hockey: #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals @ Buffalo State Bengals December 8th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Trey Thomas (14) backs his way into the Buffalo State skater for the hit that sends him to the ice. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would make the trek across the state to take on the Bengals of Buffalo State in SUNYAC Men's Hockey. The game would not start well for the Cardinals as Connor Bizal would light the lamp for the Bengals just 1:54 into the game to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Bengals wouldn't waste time and expanding on their lead as it would go to 2-0 at the 6:22 mark of the period on the Tyler Penree goal. That is where the game would stay till the 4:58 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would get on the board on the Bennett Stockdale goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Bengals wouldn't waste time in regaining their two-goal lead on the Joe Glamos power-play goal to make it 3-1. However, the Cardinals would answer right back forty seconds later on the Thomas Maia goal and make it a one-goal game again at 3-2. Then just four minutes later the Cardinals would come back and tie the game at three on the Trey Thomas goal. The game would stay there till the 5:11 mark of the third period when the Bengals would take the lead again on the Vadim Kiriakov goal at 4-3. Once again the Cardinals would answer back in thirty seconds as Aaron Catron would score and tie the game at four. Then with just over two minutes left in the game, the Bengals would take the lead for the third and final time at 5-4 on the Parker Allison powerplay goal. They would add an empty netter to secure the 6-4 win. In the win Marcus Cumberworth would make 41 saves as they went to 5-8 while Elli Shiller would make 18 saves as the Cardinals fell to 9-2 on the season, Th Plattsburgh State Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow as they head to Fredonia and look to end their two-game losing streak, Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Oswego State Lakers @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals December 2nd 2023

It would be the second game of the weekend for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and they would host long-time SUNYAC rival the Oswego State Lakers at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as they look to start 10-0 in front of 2160 fans. Although the game would not start the right way for the home Cardinals the Lakers would get the opening goal of the game with 7:41 left in the opening period on the Shane Bull powerplay goal. The game would stay there til the early stages of the second period when the Lakers would extend the lead to 2-0 just 1:16 on the Brock Krulicki. The Cardinals would keep fighting and get the game back within one just three minutes later on the Lonan Bulger powerplay goal to make it a 2-1 game. The Lakers would retake the two-goal lead at the 12:31 mark of the second period on the Daniel Colabufo goal to make it 3-1. Once again the Cardinals would get it to a one-goal game at 3-2 with under 90 seconds left in the period on the Bennett Stockdale goal. However, it would be short-lived as the Lakers would score just 18 seconds later on the Tyler Flack goal to make it a 4-2 Lakers to end the second period. The Cardinals would come back hot in the third period and make it a one-goal game for the third time just 3:10 into the period on Bennett Stockdale's second goal of the game. However, it would not be enough for the Cardinals as the Lakers added an empty netter late and the Cardinals lost 5-3. Plattsburgh State's Tio D'Addario (9) gets the rebound goal to get the Cardinals scoring started. It would be the annual teddy bear toss night at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Cortland State Red Dragons as they would look to continue their undefeated season in front of just over 1500 fans. It would take the 7:12 mark of the first period before Tio D'Addario would score for the Cardinals and then the Bears would go flying. Then with just over a minute left in the period the Cardinals would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Thomas Maia goal. The game would stay there till the 11:07 mark of the second period Aaron Catron for the lone goal of the second period. It would take long into the third period for a goal as the Cardinals would score just 25 seconds in on the Josh Belgrave goal to make it a 4-0 game. With just about 5:30 left in the game, the Red Dragons would end the shutout bid with the Domenic Settino goal to make it 4-1. Although just over 40 seconds later the Cardinals would get the 4-goal lead back on Luk Jirousek and just over two minutes later Jirousek would score again to secure the 6-1 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals would stay perfect on the season at 9-0 as Eli Shiller would make 18 saves on the night. Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout Consolation: St. Olaf Oles Vs Middlebury Panthers November 25th 2023

Middlebury's Thomas LaLonde (29) with the save on the Oles shot in close on the net. It would be the start of the second day of the Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout and it would start with the Consolation Game with the Middlebury Panthers and the St. Olaf Oles in front of 350 fans. It would take till the final 30 seconds of the third period before we had our first goal and it would give the Panthers the 1-0 lead thanks to Andrew Seaman. The Oles wouldn't waste long and tied the game up at one on the Michael Webster goal just 56 seconds into the second period. The game would stay there all the way to the 1:57 mark of the third period when the Panthers would regain the lead on the Paddy Mangan goal at 2-1. The Oles wouldn't let the Panthers get away and they would keep fighting and tie the game at two with about 6:30 left in the game on Ben Luscko's goal. The game would stay there through the rest of regulation and the five-minute overtime and the game would end in a 2-2 tie. Middlebury's Thomas Lalonde would make 22 saves as the Panthers went to 0-2-2 while the Oles went to 4-4-2 as Jake Horoho made 35 saves. Gallery.

Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout Championship:#11 Norwich Cadets @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 25th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Tio D'Addario (9) stuffed the puck in the open side for the game-winning powerplay goal. It would be time for the championship of the Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout and it would be a rematch of last year's title game this time though at Plattsburgh State as the #11 Norwich Cadets would take on the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals in front of 1400 fans. It would take until the second period before we would get the opening goal of the game when Kevin Weaver Vitale would break the ice and get a goal at the 8:25 mark of the second period to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The one-goal game would be short-lived as the Cardinals would expand the to 2-0 27 seconds later on the power play goal from Tio D'Addario. The Cadets would come back about six minutes later and make it a one-goal game again on the Pual Schmid goal. From there the Cardinal defense would do the rest as there would be no scoring the rest of the night to give the Cardinals the 2-1 victory and a second straight Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout championship as they would stay undefeated on the season at 8-0. Eighht Layer Great Northern Shootout Semi-Finals: #11 Norwich Cadets Vs Middlebury Panthers November 24th 2023

It would be the return of the Great Northern Shootout this time brought to you by Layer Eight and the opening game of the tournament would see the battle of Vermont as the #11 Norwich Cadets would take on instate rival the Middlebury Panthers at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The game would start off well for the Cadets as they would get the early 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the game on Holden Doggett's goal. Then inside the final two minutes of the period, the Cadets would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Brady Harroun goal. The Cadets would start to take control of the game as they would extend the lead to 3-0 on the powerplay goal six minutes into the second period on the Cooper Bertrand goal. The Panthers would answer right back 17 seconds later on the goal from Andrej Hromic to get the game back to a two-goal game at 3-1. The Cadets would retake the three-goal lead with just over two minutes left in the period on the Patrick O'Neal powerplay goal to make it a 4-1 game. In the third period, the Cadets would seal the game away on three unanswered goals from Clark Kerner, Joe Nagle, and Devon Thibodeau as they would secure the 7-1 win. In the winning effort, Sami Molu would make 17 saves as they go to 5-2-1 on the season and will take on the winner of the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the St Olaf Oels in the championship of the Great Northern Shootout. Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout Semi-Finals: St. Olaf Oles @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 24th 2023

It would take till just about four minutes left in the open period when the Cardinals got on the board on the powerplay goal on the deflection by Bennett Stockdale for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till there was just about five minutes in the second period when Bennett Stockdale would once again light the lamp to give the Cardinals the 2-0 lead. The Oles would keep fighting and the game would get very physical at times with many hard hits throughout. The Oles would make it a one-goal game at 2-1 with the extra attacker on the Tyler Cooper. It would be the battle of the North Country as the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals (ranked number for the first time in 8 years) would host the Potsdam State Bears with just over 1500 fans in attendance in SUNYAC action. It would take till the midway mark of the first period when we would get the first goal of the game coming on the Bear's first shot on the Jack Loran goal to give the Bears the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till there was just over a minute left in the period when the Cardinals would tie the game up on Bennett Stockdale's goal as they crashed the net. The Cardinals would have little time to take the lead in the game on Adam Tretowicz as he stuffs in the rebound 4:35 into the third to give the Cardinals the 2-1 lead. However, the Bears were not just going to roll over for the #1 team in the land as they would tie the game up at two on the Jack Loran second of the game. However, with just under 90 seconds left in the game, the Cardinals would take the 3-2 lead on the Paul Bryer goal for the 3-2 and eventual win. Jacob Hearne would make 17 saves in the winning effort as the Cardinals stayed undefeated on the season while the Bears fell to 1-5 in the early season. The game would not start the greatest as the Golden Eagles would get the opening goal of the game at the 5:40 mark of the first period from Scott Ramaekers to make it 1-0. The game would stay there to the 5:09 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would tie the game up at 1-1 on the Jake Lanyi goal. The game would remain even till the midway mark of the third period when Spencer Bellina would score to give the Cardinals the 2-1 lead. Then with 2:30 left in the game, the Cardinals would ice the game away on Josh Belgrave's empty netter to give the Cardinals the 3-1 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals stayed perfect on the season at 5-0 and Elli Shiller made 19 saves in the winning effort. It would be a battle of the top ten teams in the nation as the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #8 Geneseo State Knights in SUNYAC play in front of 1400 fans. The Cardinals would get off to a quick start just 58 seconds into the game on the Tio D'Addario goal for the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would expand their lead to a 2-0 lead on the shorthanded goal by Joshua Belgrave. The Cardinals would finish off their three-goal period with 15 seconds left on the Kevin Weaver Vitale goal. The game would stay there until the 12-minute mark of the second period when the Cardinals Bennett Stockdale would light the lamp and take the 4-0 lead. Although two minutes later the Knights would strike twice within a minute to cut the lead in half at 4-2 on the Mitch Machlitt and Teddy Purcell goals. Then with 2:15 left in the period the Cardinals would regain their two goal when Bennett Stockdale would get his second goal of the game. The game would stay there till about there was 3:30 left in the game when the Cardinals would get the empty netter on Joshua Belgrave's second goal of the game to secure the 6-2 win. In the winning effort, Jacob Hearne would make 30 saves as the Cardinals went to 4-0 and the Knights fell to 4-1. It would be the home opener for the #7 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would begin the 2023-24 campaign with a game against the Castleton State Spartans from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 1300 fans. The game would start off well for the home Cardinals as they would get the opening goal just 2:46 into the game on the Paul Bryer goal. The Cardinals would expand their lead just five minutes later on the Adam Tretowicz goal and take the 2-0 lead. Although just 42 seconds later the Spartans would get on the board and cut the lead in half at 2-1 on the Jackson Edwards goal. Then just about three minutes later the Spartans would tie the game up on the Josef Vyvial to make it 2-2. The game would stay there till the ten-minute mark of the second period when Lonan Bulger would score to give the Cardinals the 3-2 lead. Just two minutes later the Spartans would tie the game up again on the Andrew Stefura goal. That was the game would stay till the third period when the Cardinals would erupt for three powerplay goals from Josh Belgrave, Ryan Bonfield, and Tio D'Addario and secure the 6-3 victory. It would be a very physical game though as the teams would combine for 55 minutes in penalty minutes. In the winning effort, Eli Shiller would make 17 saves on the night as the Cardinals went to 2-0 on the season. ECAC Tournament Championship: #2 Harvard Crimson Vs #5 Colgate Red Raiders March 18th 2023

Colgate's Carter Gylander (37) with the glove save on the quick wrister from Harvard's Marek Hejduk (13) as he would make 28 saves on the night for the title. It was time for the 2023 ECAC Hockey Championship. It would feature the powerhouse #2 seeded Harvard Crimson and the upstart and #5 seeded Colgate Red Raiders as they batt for this year's edition of the Whitelaw Cup at the Olympic Center Lake Placid in front of 3839 fans. The Red Raiders would come out firing as they were looking for the upset as Colton Young would get them on the board just 1:01 into the game with the powerplay goal. The game would stay there till the 12:47 mark of the period when brother Alex Young would give the Red Raiders the 2-0 lead and that's how the first period would end. In the second period, the Crimson would get on the board and cut the deficit to 2-1 on the Henry Thrun goal at the 6:01 mark. Although the 1 goal lead would be short-lived as Levi Glasman would score for the Red Raiders three minutes later to regain the two-goal lead at 3-1 and the game would stay there for the rest of the period. In the third period, the Crimson would keep fighting and get the game back within one with just over seven minutes left on the Matthew Coronato goal to make it a 3-2 game. From there though the Red Raider's defenses would be up to task as they would block 35 shots as a team in earning the 3-2 victory and being crowned the Whitelaw Cup champion for the first time since 1990 (33 years ago) and first for coach Don Vaughan along with giving the Red Raiders there first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. In the winning effort, Carter Gylander would make 28 saves on 30 shots and 67 saves on 70 shots for the weekend in being named tournament Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament. With the win, the Colgate Red Raiders will enter the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 with a record of 19-15-5 and while the Crimson would come up short in winning the title they will also get a bid to the NCAA Tournament with a record of 24-7-2. It would be the second game of the day from the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY as part of the semi-final day of the ECAC Tournament and it would feature last year's conference tournament winner #2 Harvard Crimson, and the #3 Cornell Big Red for the right to face the #5 Colgate Red Raiders for the ECAC title the next day. These games would be all about the defenses and the physical play as the shots for the game would be 25-15 on the night in favor of the Crimson. These games would see only one goal in the game and it would take until the 4:28 mark of the overtime when Harvard's Alex LaFerriere would light the lamp and give the Crimson the 1-0 win. In the winning effort, Mitchell Gibson would make 15 saves on the night for the shutout victory and advance to the championship game against the Colgate Red Raiders. With the loss, the Cornell Big Red go to 20-10-2 on the season and will wait till selection Sunday to see if they make the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats Vs #5 Colgate Red Raiders March 17th 2023

Quinnipiac's Ethan De Jong (10) ties the game up at one in the early stages of the third period with the powerplay goal. It would be the opening game of the ECAC Tournament final four from the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY and it would feature the #1 seeded and #3 ranked nationally the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #5 seeded Colgate Red Raiders. The upset-minded Red Raiders would crack the ice first with just under 3:15 left in the first period on the Daniel Panetta goal to give the Red Raiders the 1-0 and that's where the first period would end. Both teams would have their chances throughout the second period although the defenses on both sides would stand tall as neither team would be able to find the back of the net and the Red Raiders would hold onto the 1-0 lead as they entered the third period. In the third period, the Bobcats would finally break into score collum on the powerplay goal by Ethan De Jong just 3:47 into the period. From there the defenses would hold tight and neither team could take advantage and they would end regulation tied at one. From there the teams would head to the overtime tied at one and it would not be for the lack of chances but the game-winner would take til the 8:50 mark of the second overtime when Ross Mitton would tap in the rebound passed an outstretched Yaniv Perets for the game-winner. With the win, the Colgate Red Raiders advance to the finals of the ECAC Tournament for the first time since 2014 and go for their first Whitelaw Cup since 1990. It would be championship Sunday from the LECOM Harbor Center in Buffalo, NY and New York State Boy's Hockey Division II would be first up with the #2 Skaneateles Lakers taking on the defending state champion and currently number #3 in the state Pelham Pelicans. It wouldn't take long for the upstart-minded Lakers to get on the board and take the 1-0 lead in the game when Henry Major would score just 2:05 into the game. The Lakers would keep on the accelerator and expand their lead to 2-0 at the 7:58 mark of the period on the Andrew Falkenberg power play goal. Then at the 11:11 mark of the period the Lakers would take control of the game on the Andrew Witlock goal and make it 3-0. When the teams returned for the second period the Lakers would stay and take a 4-0 lead just 33 seconds into the period on Andrew Whitlock's second goal of the game. The game would stay there till there were just about 90 seconds left in the period when the Pelicans would get on the board with the Sebastian Esposito goal and make it a 4-1 game and give the Pelicans hope in the third period. Although the defenses would stand tall for both teams in the third period as there would be no scoring the defending champions Pelicans would fall to the Skaneateles Lakers to give them their first title in four years. It would be a battle between two evenly matched teams and the Lakers would get the opening goal of the game 8:52 into the first period from Henry Major for the 1-0 lead. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Shamrocks would answer right back ten seconds later on the goal by Dylan Johnson to tie the game one. The game would stay there till the 4:55 mark of the second period when the Shamrocks would score to take the 2-1 lead on the goal from Evan Collette. The Lakers would keep fighting and tie the game back up at two a little over three minutes later on a goal by Alex Whitlock. The game would stay there and throughout most of the third period. Although with 2:30 left in the game, the Lakers would take the 3-2 lead. Although the Shamrocks would not give up and they would have their chances in the closing minutes although the Lakers would hold on for the in and head to the finals against the Pelham Pelicans. Saranac's Zack O'Connell (88) starts the celebration as he gets the Chiefs' second goal. It was the first game of the NYSPHSAA Division II semi-finals. It would feature the #11 Saranac Chiefs from Section VII making their first appearance in the final four and the Pelham Pelicans from Section I and the defending state champions. The game would start off well for the defending champs as they would score just 2:16 into the game on the powerplay goal from Will Crotty for the 1-0 Pelicans lead. The Chiefs would answer back just about halfway through the period and tie the game at one on the Landon Giroux goal. Then just over four minutes later the Pelicans would regain their one-goal lead on the goal by Reid Finster for the 2-1 game. With just about thirty seconds left in the period, the Pelicans would extend their lead to 3-1 n the Joseph Vassalotti goal. The game would stay there till the 6:41 mark of the second period when the Pelicans would score on the Daniel Mitrione goal to make it a 4-1 game. The Chiefs would keep fighting and make it a two-goal game again at the 11:00 mark of the period on the Zack O'Connell goal to make it 4-2. Although the Pelicans would come back on fire after that and score 3 goals in the final five minutes of the period to take a commanding 7-2 lead on goals from Griffin Evans twice and Chris Franchini. Then in the third period with the game in hand, the Pelicans would let up and get the other kids in the game along with the Chiefs doing the same thing although the Pelicans would get one in the last minute of the period from James Vassakotti to secure the 8-2 win. In the winning effort, the Pelicans will advance to the championship against the winner of Salmon River and Skaneateles. In the losing effort, Joey Mitchell would make 44 saves on 52 shots as they finished their season at 13-8-2. Gallery

NEWHL Women's Hockey Championship: #2 Cortland State Red Dragons @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 25th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Sara Krauseneck charges down on the goalie and wrist it over the shoulder to give the Cardinals the 2-0 win. It would be the championship game of the Northeast Women's Hockey League and it would feature the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting the #2 Cortland State Red Dragons for the right to go to the NCAA Tournament in front of a crowd of over 600 fans. It would be a tight and physical game through the first period and neither team would be able to turn the red lamp on and they would end the opening 20 where they started tied at zero. The Cardinals would finally get the opening goal of the game 2:23 into the second period when Ciara Wall would score on the rebound and give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead and that is where the game would remain for the rest of the period. Then on the powerplay, just 4:02 into the third Sara Krauseneck would score as she rushed the net to give the Cardinals the 2-0 lead. From there the Cardinal's defense would stand tall and hold on for the victory as they would only give up 16 shots in the game. In the winning effort, Ashley Davis would stand tall for another shutout as the Cardinals would capture their fifth straight NEWHL title and will wait and see if they get the overall number one seed in the tournament when the brackets are relieved Sunday evening. Section VII Boy's Hockey Championship: #2 Saranac Chiefs @ #1 Beekmantown Eagles February 27th 2023

Saranc's Landon Giroux (17) comes in with the check on Beekmantown's Zach Lapier (19) as was he was looking to break in on the goalie. It would be the Section VII D2 Boy's Hockey championship from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena and it would feature the top 2 teams as the top-seeded and number 2 in the state Beekmantown Eagles would host the number 2 seeded and number 20 in the state Saranac Chiefs. Although there would be a wrinkle this year as luck would have it with the state tournament brackets both teams would be locked into the tournament so that there would be an even eight teams. With that being said both teams would be giving it their all though so they could have that sectional championship banner hanging from the rafters and the opening goal of the game would come three minutes in on the Sam Bingel goal to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. Although the 1-0 lead would be short-lived as the Chiefs would answer right back 28 seconds later on the Ethan Barnes goal to tie the game at 1. The Eagles would come back though and retake the one-goal lead at 2-1 on Louis Sweenor's goal at the 8:44 mark of the period. With just over a minute left in the period the Eagles would take the 3-1 lead on Sam Bingel's second goal of the period. The game would stay there till the 9:05 mark of the second period when the Eagles would extend the lead to 4-1 when Keegan Seamone would light the lamp. Although the Chiefs wouldn't go quietly as Landon Duprey would score with 3:40 left in the period to make it a 4-2 game. Although as the period was ending Sam Bingel would score with two seconds left in the period to take the 5-2 lead into the third period. In the third period, the wheels would fall off for the Chiefs as they would give up four goals from Zach Lapier, Copper Burdo, Luke Moser, and Parker Pryce while the Chiefs would answer back with one goal from Nolan Miner as the Eagles would get the 9-3 victory. In the winning effort, Austin Dosier would make 28 saves as they advance to the New York State Division II Quarterfinals and will take on the defending state champions Pelham Pelicans on March 4th. While for the Chiefs Joey Mitchell would make 26 saves as they also head into the New York State Division II Quarterfinals and will travel to take on the Queensbury Spartans on March 4th as they look to head to Buffalo for the state final four the following weekend. Then around the 12:30 mark of the period the Cardinals would get two goals in under a minute from Sara Krauseneck and Holly Schmelzer for the 3-0 lead after the first period. The game would stay there till the 12:05 mark of the second period when Lily Stumm would score to extend the Cardinal's lead to 4-0. Although just over two minutes later the Kangaroos would get on the board to break up the shutout and make it a three-goal game again on the Mathilde Couture goal at 4-1. Then with just over 90 seconds left in the period the Cardinals would regain the four-goal lead at 5-1 on the Su An Cho goal. In the third period, the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake as they would get a pair of goals from Bridget Orr and Sierra Benjamin for the 7-1 victory. In the winning effort, Ashley Davis would make 17 saves as they go to 24-2. It would be the semi-finals of the Section VII Boy's Hockey Playoffs and we would have the #3 Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers traveling to Plattsburgh to take on the #2 Saranac Chiefs for the right to head to the Section VII Championship on February 27th against the #1 Beekmantown Eagles. It would be a great game between two evenly matched teams that would split their two regular-season meetings with both teams winning on their home ice. Neither team was willing to end their season on this night and they would end up going through the whole regulation game time without either team scoring. So then in accordance with the Section VII playoffs rules they would play a regular length period in overtime with the first team scoring being declared the winner. In that period the Chiefs would get the game-winner 5:27 into the overtime when Nolan Miner would score on the scramble in front of the net off the rebound to give the Chiefs the 1-0 win. In the winning effort, the Saranac Chiefs would advance to the Section VII Championship as Joey Mitchell would make 31 saves as the Chiefs go to 12-7-2 on the season. Gallery

It would be the semi-finals of the Section VII Boy's Hockey D2 playoffs. The #1 Beekmantown Eagles would be hosting the #4 Northeastern Clinton Cougars who advance to the semi-finals earlier in the week with a win over the Plattsburgh Hornets. The winner of this semi-final match would advance to the Section VII Championship on February 27th against the winner of the Saranac Chiefs and Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers game. The game would start off well for the home Eagles as they would get the opening goal of the game just 29 seconds into the game on the Luke Moser goal. The Cougars would come right back though and tie the game up at the 5:41 mark of the period on the Marcus Bedard goal. The Eagles would keep swinging and take the lead back at the halfway mark of the period when Zack Lapier would light the lamp and give the Eagles the 2-1 lead. The Eagles would be able to expand their lead to two goals at 3-1 at the 14:11 mark on the Sam Bingel goal and that's where the first period would come to an end. When the teams returned for the second the Cougars would score 3:50 into the second to make it a one-goal game at 3-2 on the Willie Simpson goal. Although the one-goal game would be short-lived as Luke Moser would answer just 68 seconds later to make it a 4-2 game again. Then with just over a minute left in the period Eagles Sam Bingel would get the second goal of the game to send them into the locker room with a 5-2 lead. The Eagles would extend their lead to 6-2 on the short-handed goal at the 10:10 mark of the third period when Zack Lapier scored. Then in the final four minutes of the game, the Eagles would add three more goals from Lee Jarus, Louis Sweenor, and Keegan Seamone as they would get the 9-2 victory. Northeastern Clinton's Owen Ebersol (14) and Plattsburgh's Hutch Ovios (13) battle for the loose puck just outside the blue line. It would be the opening game of the New York State Section VII Boy's Hockey Quarterfinals and the #5 Plattsburgh Hornets would travel up to the Rouses Point Civic Center and take on the #4 Northeastern Clinton Cougars with the winner getting the right to play the #1 Beekmantown Eagles. The game would start off well for the visiting Hornets as they would get the opening goal of the game on the Jace Lacey goal at the 12:07 mark of the first period for the 1-0 Hornets lead. Then with just over a minute left in the opening period, Jace Lacey would strike again to give the upset-minded Hornets the 2-0 lead as the first period would come to end. Although when the teams would return to the second period the Cougars would cut the lead down to one just 5:17 into the period on the Marcus Bedard goal. The Cougars would keep the rush going and tie the game up at two just 22 seconds later on the Will Simpson goal and that's how the second period would come to end. The Cougars would start off the third period on fire with the go-ahead goal just 36 seconds into the third period on Will Simpson's second goal of the game for the 3-2 Cougars lead. The Hornets would keep the swarming and tie the game up at three with just over ten minutes left in the game on the Jace Lacey hat trick goal/ The tie would be short-lived though as the Cougars would retake the lead at 4-3 just over a minute later on the Lucas Hemingway goal. Then with just over five minutes left in the game, the Cougars would take the two-goal lead on the Will Simpson hat trick goal for the 5-3 lead. Although the Hornets would not just roll over and let the game go as they would score with the extra attacker with 12 seconds left in the game on the Braeden Calkins goal for the 5-4 game and that's where it would end. In the winning effort the #4 Northeastern Clinton Cougars advance to the semi-finals and will play the #1 Beekmantown Eagles as Peter Judkins would make 11 saves in the win. It would be a tight game throughout the early stages of the game as both teams looked like they didn't want to give up the first goal of the game and with that, the first period would go scoreless. The Cougars would finally break through and get the game's opening goal at the 4:02 mark of the second period on the Willie Simpson goal for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till there was 3:47 left in the period when Scott Wrye would score to give the Cougars the 2-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 9:28 mark of the third period when Carter Fredette would score to give the Cougars the 3-0 lead. The Hornets would finally break through and get on the board at the 13:09 mark of the third period as Braeden Calkins's goal make it a 3-1 game. Although the two-goal deficit would be short-lived as Cougars Willie Simpson would score just 40 seconds later for his second goal of the night and retake the 4-1 lead. Although the Hornets would keep fighting and they would score in the final of the game on the Jace Lacey 4x4 goal to make it 4-2. With the Northeastern Clinton Cougars win they will host the Plattsburgh Hornets in the play-in game of the upcoming sectional playoffs Tuesday with the winner getting the right to play #1 Beekmantown Eagles in the sectional semi-finals. The Eagles would strike first and quick with the Zach Lapier goal to make it a 1-0 Eagles 3:10 into the game. Then just over five minutes later the Eagles would score again to make it a 2-0 lead on the Sam Bingel goal. Then in the closing seconds of the period, the Eagles would make it 3-0 on the Quinn Brandell goal. The game would stay there till the 9:48 mark of the second period when Louis Sweenor would snip in from the blue line and make it a 4-0 game. Then just two minutes later the Eagles would make it a 5-0 game as Luke Moser would score from the slot. Then with 40 seconds left in the period Parker Broughton would score on the scramble in front of the net for the 6-0 game. The game would stay there always till the last minute of the game when Luke Moser would get his second of the game for the 7-0 win. In the winning effort, the Beekmantown Eagles would win the regular season crown and take the first seed in the upcoming playoffs and will meet up with the winner of Northeastern Clinton and Plattsburgh Hornets in the semi-final. It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boy's hockey as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers in the next to last game of the season. The Lakers would not be the best of guests as they would get the opening goal of the game with just over a minute left in the opening period as Kellan Duffey would find the back of the net for the 1-0 Lakers lead with the lone goal of the period. Although the Hornets would fight back in the early stages of the second period and get the game tied up on the shorthanded goal by Jace Lacey 3:13 into the period. The game would stay there til the 10:10 mark of the period when Jon Kratts would score on the powerplay to retake the one-goal lead at 2-1. Then exactly three minutes later the Lakers would double up their lead at 3-1 on the Kaden Darrah goal and that's how the period won ended. The home Hornets would keep fighting through and get them back within one on the Jace Lacey goal at the 4:29 mark of the third period. The Hornets would keep coming and with just over two minutes left in the game they would get the game-tying goal off a turnover that Jade Calkins would pick off the pass and bet the Lakers netminder on the breakaway and send the game to overtime. In the overtime, the Hornet's Jace Lacey would rip the shoot on the powerplay and beat the Lakers netminder for the game-winner and the hat trick on the night as the Hornets get the 4-3 win and go to 3-13 on the season while the Lakers will finish off the regular season at 6-8. It would be a matchup between the Saranac's in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers would host the #12 Saranac Chiefs at the Saranac Lake Civic Center The Chiefs would not be a very nice guest as they would score just 49 seconds into the game and get the quick 1-0 lead. Although the Lakers would have a quick response and tie the game at one just 50 seconds later so 98 seconds into the game and we would have two goals already. Just 90 seconds later the home Lakers would take the 2-1 lead on the Carson St. Louis goal. The game would stay there til just under three minutes left in the period the Chiefs would tie the game at 2 on the Zach O'Connell goal. The game would stay there till the 6:25 mark of the second period when the Lakers would regain the one-goal lead on Carson St. Louis's second goal of the night for the 3-2 game. However, the Chiefs would not give up this fight as Landen Duprey would score with three minutes left in the second period to tie the game up once again. In the third period, the Laker's offense would come alive and they would have three unanswered goals including the hat trick goal by Carson St. Louis as the Lakers would get the 6-3 victory. It would be the rare high school boy's hockey game on a Sunday as this was a makeup game from earlier in the season. It would feature the #2 Beekmantown Eagles hosting the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers. The home Eagles would strike first and quickly just 1:25 into the first period when would throw in the rebound from Sam Bingel for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there through the rest of the period and the first 3:38 of the second period when Keegin Rodier would light the lamp and make it a 2-0 game and that's where the second period would end. Then just 3:59 into the third period the Eagles would strike again this time from Caleb Peryer for the 3-0 lead. The Eagles would keep the offense going this time on the shorthand as Sam Bingel would break in on net and get the goal for the 4-0 lead. The Eagles would keep coming and score again just 2:30 later on the Cooper Burdo goal and make it a 5-0 lead. Then with just under two minutes left in the game, the Eagles would finish off the Lakers as Parker Broughton would snip in the top of the net to secure the 6-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Eagles would go to 15-1-2 on the season as Austin Dosier would make 13 saves for the shutout as the Lakers fall to 5-7 on the season. It would be the home finale for the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would be facing NEWHL foe the Canton Kangaroos in Women's Hockey at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The game would be even through the first period until there was 3:36 left in the period when the Cardinals Mae Olshansky would score to get the Cardinals on the board and take the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period the Cardinals would score again to double there lead at 2-0 on Sara Krauseneck goal. Although the Kangaroos would keep fighting and they would make it a one goal game on the power play goal from Danika Lalonde. Although the one goal game would be short lived as the Cardinals would regain there two goal lead just two minutes later on the Nicole Unsworth goal and make it a 3-1 game. Then in the third period the Cardinals would take control of the game with 9:05 left in the third period on the Sara Krauseneck second goal of the game for the 4-1 lead. From there the Cardinals defense would control the rest of the game and the Cardinals would get the win. In the winning effort Ashley Davis and Chloe Beaubin would combine for 16 saves as they go to 20-2 on the season. Plattsburgh State's Carson Gallagher (28) jumps over the Potsdam State defender as he goes after the loose puck and charges to the net for the shot. It would be the regular season home finale for the #9 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would host north country and SUNYAC rival the Potsdam State Bears. The Cardinals would honor the five seniors on the team at the conclusion of their last regular season home game. The home Cardinals would get off to a quick start as they would take the 1-0 lead just 2:09 into the game on the Jake Lanyl go. Then just 29 seconds later the Cardinals would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Adam Tretowicz goa. However, it would be just under three minutes later at the 6:25 mark of the period when the Bears would get on the board cutting their deficit in half on the Robert Clerc. Then with just under six minutes left in the first period, the Bears would fight back and tie the game at two on the powerplay goal by Michael McArthur. The teams would go to the locker room and the Cardinals would come back refreshed as they would retake the lead just 4:49 into the second period on the Mitchell Hale goal. Then just over halfway through the period, the Cardinals would regain their two-goal lead on the Paul Bryer goal to make it a 4-2 game. Then just 1:17 left in the second period the Cardinals would make it a three-goal lead on Jake Lanyl's second goal of the night for the 5-2 lead. The Potsdam State Bears would look like they still had some fight in them as they started the third period just 3:43 into it with the Justin Vernance goal to make it a 5-3 game. Although the Cardinal's defense would stand tall the rest of the night as they would get the 5-3 win and go to 17-5-2 on the season, In the winning effort Jacob Hearne would make 25 saves for the win and will finish the regular season next Wednesday as they will travel to Morrisville State. The game would be tight throughout the first period and the Eagles would eventually get the opening goal with under 90 seconds left in the period from Rachel Mador to make it 1-0 Eagles. The Huskies would fight back and tie the game at one on the Olivia Cook. Although just 50 seconds later the Eagles would score to regain their one-goal lead at 2-1. Then with just under five minutes left in the second period, the Huskies would tie the game again as Olivia Cook would score her second goal of the game. Although the Eagles would keep the fight up and take the lead back once again as they would score with two minutes left in the period to make it a 3-2 game. Although once again the Huskies would tie the game once again just 4:55 into the third period at three. The game would stay all the way til the fourth overtime when the Huskies would get the game-winner just shortly after a very conversational call boarding that jarred the puck free that they put in the net for the Huskies 4-3 win. It would be the second game of a weekend trip to the Capital District as the #12 Saranac Chiefs would this time travel to Saratoga Springs and take on the Saratoga Blue Streaks at the Vernon Arena. The game would be evenly matched through most of the first period until the Blue Streak would light the lamp with just over five minutes left to give the Blue Streaks the 1-0 lead. It would be more of the same throughout the second period until the Blue Streak would hit again this time on the powerplay and make it 2-0 on the Maddox Pemrick with just over two minutes left. The Blue Streaks wouldn't waste long in the third period in extending the lead to 3-0 on the Grady Frasier goal just 1:27 in. Although the Chiefs would answer right back and get on the board just 6 seconds later on the Evan Patrie goal to make it a 3-1 game. That wouldn't be the end of the Chiefs as they would make it a 3-2 game 2 minutes later on the Conor Graves goal. Although with just over 6 minutes left in the game, the Blue Streaks would regain their two-goal lead at 4-2 on the Daniel Klochaney goal and that's where the game would end. In the winning effort, the Blue Streaks go to 9-8-1 on the season. While the Saranac Chiefs fall to 10-4-2 on the season and will look to get back on the winning side next weekend when they travel to Rouses Point and take on the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. It would be a nonleague game inside the top 15 in the state New York State Boy's Hockey Division 2 as the #12 Saranac Chiefs would travel down to section 2 and take on the #9 Queensbury Spartans in what might be a new york state region in the state tournament in a few weeks. The teams would be very evenly matched through the first period and there would be no scoring in the first period. It would take till the 6:14 mark of the second period when Keegan Lozier would score to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. The game would remain there til the 9:43 mark of the period when the Spartans would score again this time from Nick Ogden to give the 2-0 lead. Then with just over five minutes left in the period, the Spartans would take control of the game on the Tanner Freeman goal as the score would go to 3-0. The Chiefs would keep fighting and get on the board just three minutes into the third period on the Evan Patrie goal to keep the game alive at 3-1. The game would stay there until the final five minutes when Chiefs' Landin Duprey would get saddled with a five-minute boarding call. On the issuing powerplay, the Spartans would light the lamp three times from Ethan Kelsey Michael Deutsch, and Tyler Dufour and take the 6-1 victory. In the losing effort, the Chiefs fall to 10-4-3 on the season and will play the Saratoga Blue Streaks tomorrow while the Queensbury Spartans will go to 12-3 and will be back in action tomorrow against Bethlem. Then at the 10:41 mark of the period the Chiefs would score again on Duprey's second goal of the period and take a -0 lead to end the period. When the teams came out for the second period the teams would play pretty even throughout and there would be no scoring as the Chiefs would hold onto their 3-0. The Chiefs would keep the scoring going as they would light the lamp 4:07 into the period when Zack O'Connell would score to make it a 4-0 game. The game would stay there till the ten-minute mark of the period when the Chiefs would score twice in 45 seconds from Landin Duprey (for the hat trick) and Nolan Miner (second of the night) to make it a 6-0 Chiefs lead. Then with just over three minutes left in the game, the Chiefs would end their scoring outburst when Zack O'Connell would get the second of the night for the 7-0 win. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be looking to avenge two earlier seasons' losses to the Lakers as they would take the early 1-0 lead just 5:27 into the first period on the Jacob Modry goal and with it, the red stress balls would hit the ice as it was stress ball night at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. Then at the 12:03 mark of the period the Cardinals would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Riley Sutherland goal. That is where the game would stay all the way till the 41-second mark of the third period when Ryan Bonfield would score to make it a 3-0 Cardinal game. Then just three minutes later the Cardinals would take control of the game on the Carson Gallagher goal to make it a 4-0 Cardinals. Then on the powerplay at the 6:29 mark of the period the Cardinals would make it a 5-0 game on the Luk Jirousek goal. Then with under seven minutes left in the game the Cardinals would end their assault on the night on the Bennett Stockdale goal as it would be the sixth different scorer in the game. The Lakers would break up the shutout bid with under 4 minutes left in the game when Matt McQuade scored to make it a 6-1 game. Although the Kangaroos goaltender Sirena Alvarez would stand tall and keep them in the game with 35 saves on the night. It would be standing room only at the Amer-can North Sports Complex tonight as it would be a match-up of a pair of teams ranked inside the top 15 in the state as the #14 Saranac Chiefs Chiefs coming in on 6 games winning streak hosting the #2 Beekmantown Eagles that came in unbeaten on the season. It would take till the 6-minute mark of the first period before we had our first goal between these two high-spirited teams when Sam Bingel would light the lamp twice in that minute to give the Eagles the 2-0 lead. Then at the 9:25 mark of the period the Chiefs would get on the board when Evan Patrie would hit the rebound goal to make it a 2-1 game. Although the one-goal game would be short-lived as Keegan Seemone would score thirty seconds later to make it a two-goal lead again for the Eagles. The Chiefs would not end out the period strong as Landen Duprey would score twice to end the period and the teams would go into the locker room tied at three. The Chiefs would keep the train moving as they would score just 3:36 into the second period to give them their first lead of the game at 4-3 on the Nolan Miner goal. Then at about the midway mark of the period, Zach O'Connell will score to give the Chiefs the 5-3 lead. The game would stay there til the 14-minute mark of the period when Sam Bingel (hat trick) and Zach Lapier would score to tie the game at five as they went into the second intermission. When the teams returned for the third period the Eagles would be riding their excitement as they would take the 6-5 lead at the 5:36 mark of the period on Sam Bingel's 4th goal of the night. Then with under 90 seconds left in the game, he would strike again for the 7-5, and the Eagles would add an empty netter to secure the 8-5 win. In the winning effort, Austin Doser would make 27 saves as they go to 9-0-1 on the season and the Chiefs fall to 7-2-2 on the season as Joey Mitchell had 25 saves on the night. It would be physical and evenly matched game throughout with both teams looking for the upper hand in the match. It would take all the way till there was 3:30 left in the second period before we would have are first goal on the night and it would come from Plattsburgh State's Bennett Stockdale to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. That is where the game would remain until the final minute of the game when Bennett Stockdale would seal the game away with the empty netter to give the Cardinals the 2-0 win in front of 1,100 fans. Although the Cardinals would answer back five minutes later on the Julia Masotta goal to tie the game at one. The game would stay there till the 12:11 mark of the second period when Sara Krauseneck would stuff it in on the short side to give the Cardinals the 2-1 lead. Then at the 3:33 mark of the third period the Cardinals would make it a two-goal lead on the Nicole Unsworth goal at 3-1. The Lakers would be out to spoil the Cardinal's homecoming as they would get the first goal of the game at the 6:02 mark of the first period on the shorthand from Kensie Malone. Then at the 11:47 mark of the period they would look to take control of the game as the Lakers would score on the powerplay from Amanda Zenstein for the 2-0 lead. Although the Cardinals would answer in the final 40 seconds of the period on the powerplay with the Mae Olshansky goal to make it 2-1 Lakers after the first period. In the second period, the Cardinals would get the only goal of the period at the 9:09 mark on the powerplay from Nicole Unsworth to tie the game at two. In the third period, the Cardinals would get the first lead of the game at the 13:22 mark of the period from Sierra Benjamin to make it 3-2. Then with 1:55 left in the game, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the Nicole Unsworth powerplay goal. Churchville-Chilli's Max McKay (24) comes down and beats Saranac's Joey Mitchell to tie the game at one. The Saranac Chiefs would have a nonleague match-up from Section V tonight as they would host the #11 Churchville-Chilli Saints at the Amer-can North Sports Center. The game would start well for the home Chiefs as they would get the game's opening goal from Nolan Miner just 90 seconds into the contest. The game would stay there all the way till the 4:19 mark of the second period when Max McKay would score on the breakaway for the Saints and make it a 1-1 game. Although the Chiefs would keep coming and coming and under four minutes left in the period they would retake the lead at 2-1 on the Adrian Barnes goal. That's where the game would stay till the last 1:19 of the game when the Chiefs would score as Nolan Miner would get his second goal of the game and extend the Chief's lead to 3-1. Although there wasn't much time left in the game it wouldn't take the fight out of the Saints as they would score with the extra man from Beckham Clancy with four seconds left. The Chiefs would get the 3-2 win on the night behind the 24 saves a night of Joey Mitchell as the Chiefs go to 7-1-2 on the season. The game would start off well for the home Chiefs as they would get on the board 36 seconds into the game on a breakaway goal from Landen Duprey and that is where the first period would end as it would be the only goal of the period. It would take all the way to the 14-minute mark if there were another goal in the second period. The Chiefs would find the net on a 5x3 powerplay goal by Ashtyn Caitlin as the Chiefs make it a 2-0 game. Then with 54 seconds left in the second period, the Chiefs would take control of the game with a goal from Adrian Barnes to make it 3-0. In the third period, the Saranac Chiefs' defense would stand tall hold the Knights' offense in check, and even kill a couple of penalties as they would secure the 3-0 victory. It would be time for the championship of the 40th annual Comfort Inn Winter Classic at the Ronald B Stafford Arena and it would feature the classic rivalry this time with both of them ranked in the top 15 as the #15 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #9 Oswego State Lakers. The game would start off great for the home Cardinals as they would score just 1:46 into the game on the breakaway goal from Adam Tretowicz. The Lakers would fight back and tie the game on the powerplay goal from Daniel Colabufo at the 13:47 mark of the period. Then with 34 seconds left in the first, the Laker's powerplay would strike again this time from Quinn Warmuth for the 2-1 lead. That would be all the scoring for the game but that would not be the whole story as the Cardinals would have their chances throughout the last two periods to tie the game but the Laker's defense would stand tall. With the win, the Lakers would be named the 40th annual Comfort Inn Complex Winter Classic champions as the Cardinals fall to 9-4-2 on the season in front of a crowd of 1384. It would take a bit to get the game going but the Leopards would get the opening goal of the game at the 11:52 mark of the first period on the powerplay from Josh Faussett for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till just under five minutes left in the second period when the Leopards would strike again on the powerplay from Nikolas Sombrowski for the 2-0 lead. Then the Leopards would be looking to put the game away early in the third period with the powerplay with the goal by Nolan Lowe at 5:31 to make it 3-0 Leopards. although the Bears were not going to go out without a swing as they would score 56 seconds later from Ryan Mahlmeister to make it 3-1. With 7:54 left in the game, the Leopards would regain the three-goal lead at 4-1 on goal by Jacob Shankar. Although again the Bears would strike right back 37 seconds later on a goal by Michael McArthur to make it a two-goal game again at 4-2. The Bears would keep fighting and with just over five minutes left in the game they would make it a one-goal game on the powerplay goal from Drew Rose. That would end the comeback attempt by the Bears though although not without chances down the stretch including a 6x4 in the final minute that they could not find the equalizer on. It would be the second game of the day at the Comfort Inn Winter Classic and the host #15 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be meeting up with the Wentworth Leopards for their first home game of 2023 in front of 1,100 fans. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would score just 2:13 into the game from Ryan Bonfield for the Cardinal's 1-0 lead. Although the Leopards were not just going lay down and let the Cardinals walk away with the game as they would even the game up at 1 at the 7:38 mark of the period on a goal from Luke Jefferies. The Cardinals would answer back in the final two minutes of the period on a goal from Luk Jirousek and take the 2-1 lead at the break. Although the Leopards were not going away and would come back again and tie the game at 2 at the 11:18 mark of the second period on a goal from Nolan Lowe. Once again the Cardinals would answer late in the period this time with under 30 seconds left in the period on a goal from Bennett Stockdale to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. From there Cardinals would hold on for the win as Brendan Young would score twice in the third period to seal the game away for the 5-2 victory. It would be the opening game of the 40th Comfort Inn Complex Winter Classic as the Potsdam State Bears and #9 Oswego State Lakers would face off. The upset-minded Bears would get the first goal of the game just 5:24 in from Jack Bloem to take the 1-0 lead. That is where the game would stand till the 5:31 mark of the second period when the Bears would double their lead at 2-0 on the Justin Vernace goal. The Lakers would finally have an answer at the 8:30 mark of the period on the Connor Sleeth goal to make it a 2-1 game. Although just 90 seconds later the Bears would regain their two-goal lead on the Josh Bifolch goal at 3-1. Although the Lakers would come back on the powerplay about three minutes later and make it a one-goal game again. That is where the game would stay till about the 11:30 mark of the third period when Shane Bull would score for the Lakers and tie the game at three. That would be where the game would officially end as there was no scoring the rest of the period or in overtime but because of the tourney they would go to the shootout to decide it and the Lakers would win 2-0. It would be the battle for AC North as the two teams that both call Ameri-can North Arena home would faceoff in their first of two meetings on the season as the Saranac Chiefs would meet up with the Plattsburgh Hornets. The game would start off very well for the Chiefs as they would get the opening goal of the game just a minute into the game from Nolan Miner and the 1-0 lead. Then with about ten minutes left in the period, they would extend the lead to 2-0 on the goal by Ben Phinney and that's where the first period would end. In the second period, the Chiefs would stay hot as they would make it a 3-0 game just 2:25 into the period on a goal from Evan Patrie. Later in the period, the Chiefs would strike again staying hot as Landen Duprey would score to make it a 4-0 game. Then the third period would start just like the other two with a quick from Zach O'Connell although this time Jonathan Roy would add his own goal right behind O'Connell and make it a 6-0 game. From there the Chiefs would do the rest and get the 6-0 shutout victory and go to 4-1-2 on the season while the Hornets fall to 1-3 season. Gallery

It would be the start of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play as the Saranac Chiefs would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in a rematch of last year's semifinal game that saw the Cougars win in overtime. The game would start off well for the Chiefs as they would score just 1:44 into the match on the Landon Duprey to make it a 1-0 game. However, the lead would be short-lived as the Cougars would tie the game at one at the three-minute mark of the match from Owen Ebersol. That is where the game would stay till the 1:24 mark of the second period and in total, the Cougars would score three times in the first 5:20 of the period from Peyton Palmer, and two from Winnie Simpson for the 4-1. However, the Chiefs would go on a streak of their own scoring 4 goals in the tens and retaking the lead at 5-4 on goals from Nolan Miner (twice), Zach O'Connell, and Evan Patrie. Then during the third period, the Cougars would keep on fighting and get the equalizer at the 11:27 mark from Eddie Bullriss and from there the game would go to overtime. In that overtime period, Zach O'Connell would get the game-winner at 1:55 on the breakaway goal for the second of the night. It would be a non-league game as the Beekmantown Eagles would host from Section X the Potsdam Sandstoners as both teams were looking to get the 2023 portion of the season started the right way. The game would start off well for the home Eagles as they would get on the board at about the five minutes of the first period on the Zach Lapier goal. The lead would only last about five minutes as the Sandstoners would tie the game at one. The game would stay there til there the 12:00 mark of the period when Sam Bingel would score to make it a 2-1 Eagles lead. The lead would be short-lived as the Sandstoners would tie the game at two. The Sandstoners would start off the second period hot as they would score three goals in the first two minutes and take a 5-2 lead. Then just 19 seconds later the Eagles would slow rush as they would get their own goal from Zach Lapier for his second of the game and make it a 5-3 game. Then at the 5:16 mark of the period, the Eagles would make it a one-goal game on the power play goal at 5-4. Then with under two minutes left in the period, the Sandstoners would regain their two-goal lead at 6-4. Then at the 7:48 mark of the third period, Cooper Burdo would score to make it a one-goal game again at 6-5. Then with 6:30 minutes left in the game, the Eagles would come all the way back and tie the game on Zach Lapier's third goal of the game. The game would head to overtime and in that period Keegan Seamone would score 1:44 into the overtime and get the 7-6 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles would stay perfect on the season at 7-0 while the Sandstoners fall to 5-3 on the season. Gallery
