It would be the second day of the Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic, and the opening game would be a matchup between Little East Conference and SUYAC foes as the Potsdam Stae Bears would take on the Castleton State Spartans. The game would start low scoring as they were feeling each other out, as the Bears would have a slim 10-8 lead after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, the offenses for both teams would start to get in a rhyme in the early season contest as the Bears would win the quarter 20-12 and take the 30-20. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Bears would stay hot and win the quarter 16-11 and take the 46-31 lead into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play even throughout, and the Spartans would have the slim win of 14-13, but it would not be enough as the Bears would get the 59-45 victories. In the winning effort for the Bears, Xy'el Bradford would lead the way with 19 points as they went to 2-2 on the season. The Cardinals would get the match's opening goal in the tenth minute as Kelly Licata would score for her third goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals and Kelly Licata would strike again in the 25th minute as they would take the 2-0 lead. The Cardinals would stay hot and extend the lead to 3-0 in the 32nd second minute when Allison Brown would score her third of the season and give them the 3-0 lead, and that's how the half would end. In the second half, both teams would have their chances but could not find the back of the net as the Cardinals would get the 3-0 win and improve their record to 4-11-1 on the season as they head into their final game Saturday against Canton. It would be the start of the SUNYAC Men's Hockey tournament and the first-round game would see the #3 seed Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting their north country rivals the #6 Potsdam State Bears in front of 1500 passionate fans. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the midway point of the first period on the Bennett Stockdale goal to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The Beas would come back and tie the game with 4:45 left in the period on the Ryan Mahlmeister goal. The game would stay there until the 10:54 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would regain the lead at 2-1 on the Luk Jirousek goal. The Bears would once again come back and tie the game with 12 seconds left in the second period on the Jack Loran powerplay goal. The game would go into the third period tied at two where nothing would be settled on the night and there would be a need for overtime. It would take til there was 5:37 left in the first overtime when Bennett Stockdale would score to send the faithful hope happy with the 3-2 win. As for the game on the ice, the Cardinals would have the lone goal of the game with 39 seconds left in the first period from Mattie Norton. The Cardinals would have plenty of chances throughout the afternoon they just weren't able to light the lamp the rest of the night as Potsdam State's Maggie Parent would make 49 saves as the Cardinals would get the 1-0 victory. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 17 saves as she would have another shutout on the season and go to 20-2-1 on the season. It would be day 2 of the Cardinal Classic Women's Basketball Tournament and it would be a matchup for the title between Bates College from the NESCAC and the Potsdam State Bears of the SUNYAC after they both won yesterday. The Bobcats would be off and running in the first quarter and their defense would keep the Bears in check as the Bobcats would have the 14-3 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would be more evenly matched as the Bobcats would only win the quarter 14-12 but the Bears would be behind 28-15 at the half. When the teams returned for the second half the teams would stay evenly matched but the Bears would be unable to do anything with the deficit as the Bobcats would win the quarter 15-14 and have a 43-31 lead as they enter the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats would finish off the Bears with a 15-6 quarter and the Bobcats would get 58-35 the win.
