Saranac's Elizabeth Recore (4) slides in safe at the plate ahead of the tag from the Plattsburgh catcher Kiley Kretser (19). It would be the Saranac Spartans and the Plattsburgh Hornets doing battle in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball action from Plattsburgh High. The Sprtans would take the early lead in the game on a pair of runs on base hits in the first inning to take the 2-0 lead after the first inning. In the second inning, the Spartans would expand their lead to a single run for the 3-0 lead. The game would stay there til the fourth when the Hornets would get on the board with a run and make it a 3-1 lead. The fifth offense would explode on both sides as they would combine for seven runs as the Spartans would take the big 8-3 lead. In the sixth inning, the Hornets would stay hot and do what they could to make ot a game with a 3-1 inning to make it a 9-6 game, and that's where it would stay to give the Spartans the 9-6 victory. In the winning effort for the Spartans, Elizabeth Recore would lead the way with a hit and a pair of RBIs as they go to 3-3 on the season. It would be the Saranac Spartans and the Plattsburgh Hornets doing battle in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball action from Plattsburgh High. NYSPHSAA Division II Boy's Hockey Regional Finals: #10 Saranac Spartans Vs #6 Queensbury Spartans March 7th, 2025

Queenbury's Egan Breault (31) with the diving stop on Saranac's Landon Giroux (17) as he looked to break up the shutout. It would be the quarterfinals of the New York State Boys' Hockey Division II Tournament, and it would see #6 Queensbury Spartans and #10 Saranac Spartans from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena, with the winner going to the Final Four in Buffalo, NY, next weekend. The Queensbury Spartans would get the game's opening goal in the eighth minute of the first period when Oliver Coughlin would score, which would be the only scoring of the period. When we returned for the second period, Queensbury came out on fire as they scored three goals in the first five minutes from Cameron Porter (twice) and Ethan Kelsey to give the 4-0 lead after the second period. Queensbury would keep it going and make it 5-0 at the 8:32 mark of the third period when Ethan Kelsey would complete his hat trick. Queenbury would keep it coming and extend their lead to 6-0 at 11:11, when Cameron Porter would also score to complete a hat trick on the night. Then, in the game's closing minutes, Queensbury would get one more from Ollie Coughlan, and they secured the 7-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Queensbury Spartans will advance to the final four of the New York State Tournament, where they will get the winner of Rye and Ogdensburg. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Champions Challenge Girl's Basketball: #11 Saranac Spartans Vs #12 Peru Nighthawks March 5th 2025

Peru's Madi Marino (3) with the the three from the top of the key as part of a two point night. After over a 15 year hituas it would be the return of the Section VII Champions and on the first night it would be the girl's taking center stage and the second game of the day would see a battle inside the top 15 as it would be the #11 Saranac Spartans from Class B taking on #12 Peru Nighthawks from Class A. The Spartans would start by taking control of the game in the first quarter as they would have a 13-5 lead on the Nighthawks after the first eight minutes. The second quarter would be more evenly matched as the Nighthawks would win slightly with a 14-13 quarter, but the Spartans would have the 26-19 lead at the break. When the teams returned for the second half, the Spartans found their groove again, had a 12-8 quarter, and took the 38-27 lead into the final stanza. In the fourth and final quarter, the Spartans would put the closing marks on the game with a 12-7 quarter and secure the 50-34 victory. In the winning effort for the Spartans, Breanna Ducatte would lead the way with 18 points as they go to 16-3 on the season, enter the New York State tournament, and play the Section II champion on March 12th. As for the Peru Nighthawks, they will fall to 17-4 on the season as Reese Duprey would lead the way with 18, and they are also headed to the New York State tournament and will play the winner from Section II. Saranac's Nolan Miner (9) comes in on the breakaway, and with the wrister, it squirs between the legs of Beekmantown's Jack Bell (31) for the goal as they get the 6-3 victory. It would be championship time from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the top 2 teams in the section would face off for the right to go to the New Yorj State Division II Tournament and it would be the classic rivalry as it would be between the #2 Saranac Spartans and the #1 Beekmanton Eagles. The Eaglwa would come out looking to defend their title as they would get the game's opening goal at the 2:40 mark of the first period from Edward Sweenor for the 1-0 lead. The Spartans would be able to answer back at the 7:54 mark of the period when Ashtyn Catilin would find the back of the net for his 100th career point, and that's where the scoring would end. The second period would start like the first as the Eagles would strike early at 1:04 to take the 2-1 lead from Novak Jarus. The Spartans would return and tie the game just 54 seconds later when Ryan Campbell would light the lamp. The Eagles would come back and take the lead for the third in the game at the 6:04 mark of the period when Edward Sweenor would get his second goal. Shortly after that, the S[artans would return and tie the game again, this time on the shorthanded penalty shot from Nolan Miner. Then, with just under two minutes left in the second period, the Spartans would get their first lead of the game at 4-3 when Ryan Campbel would wrist it by for his second goal, and that's where the second period would end. In the third period, the Spartans would expand their lead to 5-3 when Ryan Campbell would complete the hat trick at 9:15, when the puck would squeak through the five hole for the goal. Then, in the game's closing minute, the Spartans would add the empty-netter to secure the 6-3 win. In the winning effort, the Spartans advanced to the New York State Division II Boys' Hockey Tournament, where they will host the #7 Queensbury Spartans for the right to go to the final four. It would be the final game of the opening day of the Section VII Basketball Championship weekend; It would see the #1 Saranac Spartans and the #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars tipping off for the Class B Girls' Championship. It would be a low-scoring game to get it underway, and see the Cougars have the 9-7 lead after the first eight minutes. However, in the second quarter, the Spartans would come alive and start to take control of the game with a 13-5 quarter and have a 20-14 lead as they went into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half, the Spartans started to take control of the game with a 16-6 quarter and had a 36-20 lead as they went to the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans would put the game away with a 13-9 quarter and secure a 49-29 victory. In the winning effort for the Spartans, Madison Gagnier would lead the way with 16 points as they went to 15-3 on the season and earned a spot in the New York State Class B Girls' Basketball Tournament.
