The Cornell Big Red celebrate their overtime winner to advance to the ECAC Hockey Finals Saturday night with their 3-2 win over the Quinnipac Bobcats. The ECAC Hockey would make there annual return to Lake Placid and the home of Miracles for there final four and there first game would see the #1 Quinnipac Bobcats and the #6 Cornell Big Red battle for a spot in the championship game Saturday evening in front of 5300 fans. The Big Red would start the scoring in the first period when Jonathan Castagna would strike on the powerplay for his fifth goal of the season to give them the 1-0 lead with just 4 seconds left in the first period. In the second period, the Bobcats would answer back at the 14:09 mark when Andon Cerbone would score his 15th of the season and tie the game at one, and that's how the game would go to the third period. In the third period, the Bobcats would get their first lead at 14:42 when Chris Pelosi scored. Then with the Big Red down a man and pulling the goalie to even it back up, Kyler Kovich would score for his fifth goal of the season to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Bobcats would take a slashing penalty, and Tim Reggo would rifle it past the goaltender for the game winner at the 14:39 mark of the overtime and advance to the finals with a 3-2 victory to take on the winner of Clarkson and Dartmouth in the other semi-finals. In the winning effort for the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 22 saves in the afternoon as they go to 17-10-6 in the season. As for the Bobcats, Matej Marinov would make 19 saves as they fall to 24-11-2 and wait to see if they're in the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

It is that time of year as we head back to Lake Placid, NY, and the Herb Brooks Arena for the ECAC Championship weekend for the 20th edition that would take place in Lake Placid and the first game of the semi-finals night would see the #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #7 St Lawerence Saints in front of around 4,000 fans. The game would be scoreless through the first period with the teams each getting six shots on net. In the second period the Cinderella team of the tournament the Saints would get the 1-0 lead 7:43 into the period on Tomas Mazura's goal only his sixth of the season. The Saints wouldn't be done though just about four minutes later they would score again this time on the Powerplay from Max Dorrington for only second on the season and take the 2-0 lead and that's how the second period would end. In the third period the Saint's defense would be up to the challenge as they would be able to stop all that the Bobcats would throw at them and get an empty netter in the closing minute of the game from Ty Naaykens for the 3-0 win. With the win the Saint's dream playoff season will continue for one more night as they advance to the championship tomorrow night against the winner of the Cornell Big Red and the Dartmouth Big Green for the right to head to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort, the Saint's Ben Kraws would make 22 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 14-8-6 on the season while the Quinnipiac Bobcats will wait for there at large bid Sunday and go to 26-9-2 on the season. Colgate's Ross Mitton (17) taps in the rebound passed Quinnipiac's Yaniv Perets (1) for the game-winner in double overtime. It would be the opening game of the ECAC Tournament final four from the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY and it would feature the #1 seeded and #3 ranked nationally the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #5 seeded Colgate Red Raiders. The upset-minded Red Raiders would crack the ice first with just under 3:15 left in the first period on the Daniel Panetta goal to give the Red Raiders the 1-0 and that's where the first period would end. Both teams would have their chances throughout the second period although the defenses on both sides would stand tall as neither team would be able to find the back of the net and the Red Raiders would hold onto the 1-0 lead as they entered the third period. In the third period, the Bobcats would finally break into score collum on the powerplay goal by Ethan De Jong just 3:47 into the period. From there the defenses would hold tight and neither team could take advantage and they would end regulation tied at one. From there the teams would head to the overtime tied at one and it would not be for the lack of chances but the game-winner would take til the 8:50 mark of the second overtime when Ross Mitton would tap in the rebound passed an outstretched Yaniv Perets for the game-winner. With the win, the Colgate Red Raiders advance to the finals of the ECAC Tournament for the first time since 2014 and go for their first Whitelaw Cup since 1990. While the Quinnipiac Bobcats will wait till selection Sunday to see if they would stay on the one-line for the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

The Harvard Crimson have crowned the 2022 ECAC Men's Hockey champions in the overtime win over #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats. It would be the finals of the ECAC Men's Hockey Championship from the Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4400 fans for the first time since the covid-19 pandemic had started and it would feature the #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats and #3 Harvard Crimson. The upset-minded Crimson knew the only way they were headed to the NCAA was with a win go off to a quick start on a goal just 1:07 into the game from Ryan Siedem for the early lead. Although the Bobcats would not let the Crimson have the lead long as they would tie the game up at one on the TJ Friedmann goal at the 5:24 mark of the period. The game would stay there till the 9:24 mark of the second period on the powerplay goal from Ian Moore. The game would remain through the rest of the second period and most of the third period until there was 6:16 left in the game the Bobcats would tie the game up on the powerplay goal from Jayden Lee and eventually send the game to overtime. In the overtime, the Crimson would get the game-winner at the 9:18 mark from Matthew Coronato to secure the 3-2 victory and the automatic qualifier spot for the ECAC Hockey. In the winning effort, Matthew Gibson would make 47 saves as they will now head to the NCAA Tournament against Minnesota State while Quinnipiac's Yaniv Perets would make 14 saves but still get the invite to the NCAA Tournament and will take on St. Cloud State. Quinnipiac's Griffin Mendel (6) with the poke check on Colgate's Alex Dipaolo (28) as they broke into the offensive zone, it would be the return of the ECAC Men's Hockey championships after a 2-year break because of the Covid-19 pandemic to Lake Placid and the Herb Brooks Arena and the fans would welcome them back with 4200 in attendance. The first semi-final of the day would feature the #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #5 Colgate Red Raiders with the winner looking to play for a title on Saturday night. The game would start of good for top seeded bobcats as they would get the opening goal of the game at the 9:23 mark of the first period on the powerplay from Joey Cipollone for the 1-0 lead. The Bobcats would expand their lead to 2-0 with 3:17 left in the first period on the goal by Michael Lombardi as they would end the first period. Although the Red Raiders would come out in the second period and looking to get back in the game and they would on the Griffin Lunn goal just 4:13 into the period. Although that would be the only goal of the period and the Bobcats would hold the 2-1 lead as the second period would come to an end. The teams would go back and forth in the third period and just about halfway through the third period the Bobcats would regain the two goal lead at 3-1 on the Wyatt Bongiovanni. From there the Bobcats would clamp down on the defense and hold on for the 3-1 win. In the winning effort Quinnipiac's Yaniv Perets would make saves on the night as they head back to the ECAC Championship against the winner of Clarkson and Harvard while Colgate's Mitch Benson would make 30 saves in the lose.
