Beekmantown's Novak Jarus(9) with the shot on net that looked like it was going to sneak under the arm but Edward Sweenor would knock in the rebound for the goal. It would be the opening day and opening game of the 2023 edition of the Applebee's Winter Classic from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The Storm would get the opening goal of the game with 3:30 left in the first period on the Keegan McGovern goal. The Eagles would come back and tie the game up at one on the Edward Sweenor goal with 41 seconds left in the period. In the second period, the Eagles would get a pair of goals from Edward Sweenor and Novak Jarus as the Storm would get one but the Eagles would take the 3-2 lead into the third period. In the third period, the teams would combine for 6 goals. The Eagles would get the first goal of the period just three minutes into the period from Louis Sweenor as he dumped the puck into the zone for the 4-2 lead. The Storm would answer right back 30 seconds later to make it a one-goal game again at 4-3 on the Klaidi Gijini goal. From there the Eagles would come back with three unanswered goals from Sam Bingel, Edwin Sweenor, and Keegin Rodier as they would secure the 7-3 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles would go to 2-1 on the season as they will play the Rye Garnet tomorrow to see who the winner of the 2023 Applebee's Winter Classic championship is. Gallery.

Applebee's Winter Classic Day 1: Rye Garnet Vs Northeastern Clinton Cougars High School Boys Hockey December 22nd 2023

Rye's (3) stuffs it by Northeastern Clinton's goal for the Garnet goal. It would be the second game of the 2023 edition of the Applebee's Winter Classic from the Ronald B Stafford Arena and it would feature the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Rye Garnet. In the opening period, the teams would combine for eight goals with the Rye getting six goals while Northeastern Clinton would get goals from Wayne Simpson and Owen Ebersole. In the second period, there would be another three goals as the Garnets would extend their lead to 8-3. In the third period, the teams would combine for another seven goals with the Garnets getting four goals and Cougars getting another three thanks to Owen Ebersole and Wayne Simpson as the Rye Garnet would get the 12-6 win. The winning effort the Rye Garnet will play the Beekmantown Eagles for the tournament title. While the Northeastern Clinton Cougars will get the Guilderland Storm in the 3rd place game. Gallery.

High School Boy's Hockey: Saranac Spartans @ Rice Memorial Green Knights December 20th 2023

Saranac's Shawn Mclane would make the pad save to keep his team in and fighting all game long. For their third straight game, the Saranac Spartans would travel out of state and take on the Rice Memorial Knights from Burlington, Vermont at the Cairns Arena and would look to continue their good weekend. It would take most of the opening period but the home Knights would get the first goal of the game with 1:54 left in the period on Preston Wheeler's goal to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. The Spartans would keep coming though and tie the game up about halfway through the second period on the Adrian Barnes go from the offensive faceoff circle to beat the goal. However, just about four minutes later the Knights would answer back and retake the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Oliver Quong powerplay goal. The game would stay there till there were just under six minutes left in the game when the Spartans would tie the game up again on the Ryan Campbell goal. From there both teams would give their chances for the game-winner in the last minutes of the period and the five-minute overtime so the team would end the game tied at 2. So the Spartan's record will go to 2-2-1 on the season as they head into the Christmas break and their first league game against the Beekmantown Eagles on December 30th at A.C. North Arena. Gallery

Manchester Invitational Championship Night Pro Bull Riders (PBR) December 16th 2023

Felipe Furlan would take the early lead in the championship round with his 89-point ride on Bandito Bug but would settle for fourth on the weekend and fifteenth in the world rankings. It would be the second night of the 2024 edition of the PBR Manchester Invitational from SNHU Arena and there would be a sell-out crowd in attendance with over 11 thousand western sports fans in attendance. It would be the 4th time the PBR would come to Manchester, New Hampshire and we would see if we could have our fourth different event winner. It would start with the 40 best cowboys in the world all getting a second chance to ride the eight seconds before they would bring back the top 12 for the championship round. When the dust settles there would be only three riders covering all three bulls on the weekend with Brady Fielder getting the best of them all with a 260.25 for the weekend rounding out the top three would be Kaique Pacheco second with 254.75 and Alan De Souza with 252.50. With Brady Fielder's win, it would be their first career win on the PBR Unleash the Beast Tour and the first win on the tour for anyone from Australia since 2015. With the win, Brady Fielder would move to the 4th spot in the world title chance chasing Cassio Dias as they will take a week off for the Christmas break before they head to Albany on December 29th and 20th to finish off the 2023 portion of the season as the road continues to the World Finals in Dallas, Texas, and ATT Stadium. Manchester Invitational Round 1 Pro Bull Riders (PBR) December 15th 2023

Casey Roberts would draw Country Club in the opening round and would be in perfect form for the first half of the ride but a tricky jump would send him to the dirt short of the 8 seconds and get no score. The Professional Bull Riders and the Unleash the Beast would pull into Manchester, New Hampshire, and the fourth stop on the 2024 tour with 40 of the best bull riders in the world for the fourth year in a row for the Manchester Invitational at the SNHU Arena. The first half of the night would be going the way of the Bulls as there would be only 4 qualified rides of the first 18 outs. The the second half of the night cowboys would get the upper hand on the Bulls as they would ride 11 out of the last 22 as we get to the best Cowboys in the world. There would be a few issues along the way as there would have to be six rides throughout the night. When the dust would settle on the opening night there would be a tie at the top of the pile with A pair of Brazilians Eduardo Aparecido and Felipe Furlan tied at 86.25 but the top 6 would only be separated by 2 with Silvano Alves, Jesse Petri, Lucas Divino, and Alan de Souza rounding it out for the night. As we head into the second day with round 2 and then the top 12 will come back for the championship short go to settle the title for the Manchester Invitational. Gallery.

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball: Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets December 14th 2023

Platsburgh's Bailey Hewson (10) with the block from behind on Beekmantown's Grace McCasland (3) as she broke in for the layup. It would be the classic crosstown rivalry tonight in section VII girl's basketball as the Plattsburgh Hornets would be hosting the Beekmantown Eagles in an early season match-up. The game would be tight and low-scoring through the first quarter as it would be tied at seven. In the second quarter, the teams would start to find their shot and the scoring would show it as the Eagles would have an 18-10 quarter and take a 25-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Eagles would stay hot and take the third quarter 14-9 to take a 39-26 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would go into defensive mode and protect their lead as the Hornets win the quarter 10-9. However, the Eagles would hold on and get the win in the crosstown match 48-36. In the winning effort, the Eagles would even up their record at 2-2 on the season as they head into their next contest on the 19th against Northeastern Clinton. As for the Hornets, they will fall to 1-2 on season and they will be right back at it on Saturday in a nonleague match against the Chateaugay Bulldogs. Gallery

Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball Schroon Lake Wildcats @ Seton Catholic Knights December 13th 2023

Schroon Lake's (4) rises up on the layup early in the game to get the Wildcats on the board. It would be a match-up inside the Mountain Valley Conference of Section VII as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Schroon Lake Wildcats in Girl's Basketball. It would be a tight and low scoring through the first quarter as the Knights would hold the slim 6-5 lead after the first 8 minutes of the game. In the second quarter, we would have a complete repeat of the first quarter as the Knights would once again lead the quarter 6-5 and then take the slim 12-10 lead into the intermission break. When the teams returned for the third quarter after the break the Knights would bring their offense with them and win the quarter 14-6 as they got hot and would have a 26-16 lead heading into the final quarter. In that final quarter the Wildcats would do everything they could try to get back in the game and their defense would shut out the Knights in the quarter but the Wildcats could only get eight points and the Knights would hold on for the 26-24. In the winning effort, the Knights would get back to 500 on the season at 2-2 as they head into their game next week with Chazy. The Schroon Lake Wildcats fall to 1-2 on the season as they will play Boquet Valley in their next game on Friday night. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Wrestling: Northern Adirondack Bobcats @ Peru Nighthawks December 13th 2023

Northern Adirondack's wrestler has Peru's wrestler on his back as he is putting him through the stretch. It would be the second week of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Wrestling as the Peru Nighthawks would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats it would be close in the early going but the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would pull away for the 49-24 victory. In the winning effort, the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would go to 2-0 in the section while the Peru Nighthawks fall to 1-1 as the teams hit the quarter pole of the sectional season. As they roll towards the sectional championships on February 10th at Saranac Central. Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Hockey: #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals @ Buffalo State Bengals December 8th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Trey Thomas (14) backs his way into the Buffalo State skater for the hit that sends him to the ice. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would make the trek across the state to take on the Bengals of Buffalo State in SUNYAC Men's Hockey. The game would not start well for the Cardinals as Connor Bizal would light the lamp for the Bengals just 1:54 into the game to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Bengals wouldn't waste time and expanding on their lead as it would go to 2-0 at the 6:22 mark of the period on the Tyler Penree goal. That is where the game would stay till the 4:58 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would get on the board on the Bennett Stockdale goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Bengals wouldn't waste time in regaining their two-goal lead on the Joe Glamos power-play goal to make it 3-1. However, the Cardinals would answer right back forty seconds later on the Thomas Maia goal and make it a one-goal game again at 3-2. Then just four minutes later the Cardinals would come back and tie the game at three on the Trey Thomas goal. The game would stay there till the 5:11 mark of the third period when the Bengals would take the lead again on the Vadim Kiriakov goal at 4-3. Once again the Cardinals would answer back in thirty seconds as Aaron Catron would score and tie the game at four. Then with just over two minutes left in the game, the Bengals would take the lead for the third and final time at 5-4 on the Parker Allison powerplay goal. They would add an empty netter to secure the 6-4 win. In the win Marcus Cumberworth would make 41 saves as they went to 5-8 while Elli Shiller would make 18 saves as the Cardinals fell to 9-2 on the season, Th Plattsburgh State Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow as they head to Fredonia and look to end their two-game losing streak, Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Oswego State Lakers @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals December 2nd 2023

Plattsburgh State's Jagger Benson (7) with the backhander as he breaks in on the net. It would be the second game of the weekend for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and they would host long-time SUNYAC rival the Oswego State Lakers at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as they look to start 10-0 in front of 2160 fans. Although the game would not start the right way for the home Cardinals the Lakers would get the opening goal of the game with 7:41 left in the opening period on the Shane Bull powerplay goal. The game would stay there til the early stages of the second period when the Lakers would extend the lead to 2-0 just 1:16 on the Brock Krulicki. The Cardinals would keep fighting and get the game back within one just three minutes later on the Lonan Bulger powerplay goal to make it a 2-1 game. The Lakers would retake the two-goal lead at the 12:31 mark of the second period on the Daniel Colabufo goal to make it 3-1. Once again the Cardinals would get it to a one-goal game at 3-2 with under 90 seconds left in the period on the Bennett Stockdale goal. However, it would be short-lived as the Lakers would score just 18 seconds later on the Tyler Flack goal to make it a 4-2 Lakers to end the second period. The Cardinals would come back hot in the third period and make it a one-goal game for the third time just 3:10 into the period on Bennett Stockdale's second goal of the game. However, it would not be enough for the Cardinals as the Lakers added an empty netter late and the Cardinals lost 5-3. In the winning effort, the Lakers go to 7-4 while the Cardinals suffer their first loss of the season and are 9-1. Gallery
