In the second quarter, the home Cardinals would start to pull away as they would have a 5-2 quarter on goals from John Eiseman (twice), Anthony Faber, Cam Morin (second of the afternoon), and Logan Jones as the Cardinals would have an 8-5 lead at the intermission. It would be the season opener for the Plattsburgh State Women's Lacrosse team and they would welcome the Russell Sage Gators at the Fieldhouse Sports Complex. The Cardinals would not be a perfect host though and have a 5-2 lead after the first quarter on goals from Cynthia Barnosky (twice), Fiona Fitzgerald, Erica Dickinson, and Maddy Garcia. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would stay hot with a 4-1 quarter with scores from Caitlin Nash, Abby Guasconi (twice), and Nicole Resnick for the 9-3 lead after the first half. Plattsburgh's Cayden Williams (23) with the lay-in that he puts in as the Hornets advance to the Section VII Class A finals. It would be time for some playoff basketball at Plattsburgh High as the Hornets would host long-time rival the #3 Peru Nighthawks in the semi-finals of the Section VII Class A Boy's Basketball Tournament with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles at Clinton Community College on March 1st. The upset-minded Nighthhawks would get off to a good start and have the lead through the early stages of the game but the Hornets would find their shot and have the 21-20 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would start to pull away from the Nighthawks as they would have a 21-10 quarter and take the 42-30 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half and the third quarter the Hornets would stay hot as they would double up the Nighthawks with a 20-10 quarter and take a 60-40 lead into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with a 20-14 quarter and secure the 80-54 victory. The Beekmantown Eagles have been crowned the 2024 Section VII Boy's Hockey Champions for the third straight year and will enter the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Boy's Hockey Tournament. It would be the Section VII Division II Boy's Hockey Championship and it would feature the upset-minded #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers taking on the #1 and top ten state-ranked Beekmantown Eagles from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of nearly a 1000 fans. The Eagles would get on the board early with the Zach Lapier goal at the 3:04 mark of the first period. Lapier and the Beekmantown Eagles would strike again with 2 more goals 41 seconds apart at the 5:38 and 6:19 mark of the first period to give the Beekmantown Eagles the 3-0 lead on the Zach Lapier. With just over 4 minutes left in the opening period, the Eagles would strike again and take the 4-0 lead this time coming from Edward Sweenor. The game would stay that wall to the third period as there was no scoring in the second period and the teams would just go back and forth with each having their chance but were just unable to light the lamp. However, the Eagles would make up for the no scoring in the second period as they would score twice in the first 32 seconds of the third period as Edward Sweenor would score twice to complete his hat trick and give the Eagles the 6-0 lead. Not being outdone by his teammate Zach Lapier would strike again for his fourth on the night just 39 seconds later and the Eagles now led 7-0. Then with just over ten minutes left in the game, Edward Sweenor would strike to even back up with Zach Lapier who have four goals each to make it an 8-0 lead for the Eagles. Then 6:38 left in the game the other Lapier kid on the team Carter LaPier would score and take the 9-0 lead and win as the Beekmantown Eagles were crowned the 2024 Section VII Champions and will play the Queensbury Spartans in the Quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Tournament on March 2nd in Queensbury, New York with the winner headed to Buffalo, New York, and the State Frozen Four. It would be time for the playoffs in the first year of the SUNYAC Women's Hockey as the #1 seeded Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #4 Morrisville State Mustangs in the semi-finals from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena with 570 passionate fans in attendance. The home Cardinals would waste little time getting out to the lead as they would take the 1-0 lead 5:40 into the game on the Julia Masotta goal. Then the Cardinals would expand their lead to 2-0 at the 10:31 mark of the period on Julia Masotta's second goal of the game. The game would stay there till the 3:30 mark of the second period when Ciara Wall would score on the powerplay to make it 3-0. Then with a second left in the period the Cardinals Julia Masotta would complete her hat trick to give the Cardinals the 4-0 lead after the second period. The game would stay there till there was 3:59 left in the game when Hailee Easson would score for the Mustangs to break up the shutout and make it a 4-1 game. It would be the semi-finals from the Section VII Boy's Hockey and it would see the #1 Beekmantown Eagles hosting the #5 Plattsburgh Hornets at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena for the right to play for the sectional title on Monday evening. The favor Beekmantown Eagles would get off to a good start as they would score twice in the first period from Sam Bingel and they would have a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. In the second period, the Eagles would get another couple of goals this time from Ryan Demers and Sam Bingel and Bingel would get the hat trick as the Eagles extended their lead to 4-0. In the third period, the Eagles would put the exclamation point on the game as they would add another three goals from Zach Lapier, Braden Nephew, and Pryce Parker as the Eagles got the 7-0 win and advanced to Section VII Boy's Hockey Finals against the winner of the Saranac Spartans and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. The Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers celebrate as they get the 7-4 upset Saranac Spartans and go to the Section VII Hockey Championship. It would be the second semi-final of the night in the Section VII Boy's Hockey Tournament as the #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers would travel to Plattsburgh and the Amer-Can North Sports Center and take on the #2 seeded Saranac Spartans with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles for a sectional title. The favorite Saranac Spartans would get the opening goal of the game at the 9:24 mark of the first period on the Landon Duprey goal to make it 1-0. The Spartans wouldn't waste time making it 2-0 15 seconds later on the Ryan Campbell goal. Then with just 22 seconds left in the period, the Spartans would jump out to a 3-0 lead on the Evan Patrie goal. The Lakers would come out firing and make it a 3-1 game 41 seconds into the second period on the Evan Willette goal. The Lakers would stay hot and make it a one-goal game at the 5:20 mark of the period on the powerplay goal of Adrian McCormick. Then within a 2:27 stretch in the second period, the Lakers would explode for three goals to take a 5-3 lead with goals from Evan Willette, Will Landerault, and Adrian McCormick. It would be the season opener for the home Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would long-time school rival in all sports the Norwich Cadets on a brisk day at the Cardinal Complex on campus. The game would start tight through the first quarter as the Cadets would have the 4-2 lead after the first quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Donald Woods and Tim Keenan. In the second quarter the Cadets would start to take control of the game with the 6-2 quarter and have a 10-4 lead at the break and scoring for the Cardinals again would be Donald Woods and Tim Keenan. When the teams would return for the third quarter it would be a very even game as it would be a 3-3 quarter making a 13-7 quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Donald Woods (third of the game), Josh Eiseman, and Tim Keenan (third of the game). The Plattsburgh State Cardinals celebrate their game-winning goal in overtime over the Potsdam State Bears as they would advance to the Semi-finals and the Oswego State Lakers. It would be the start of the SUNYAC Men's Hockey tournament and the first-round game would see the #3 seed Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting their north country rivals the #6 Potsdam State Bears in front of 1500 passionate fans. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the midway point of the first period on the Bennett Stockdale goal to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The Beas would come back and tie the game with 4:45 left in the period on the Ryan Mahlmeister goal. The game would stay there until the 10:54 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would regain the lead at 2-1 on the Luk Jirousek goal. The Bears would once again come back and tie the game with 12 seconds left in the second period on the Jack Loran powerplay goal. It would be the last game of the regular season for both the Plattsburgh Hornets and the #1 Moriah Vikings as they would host them at the Hornets Nest in front of a full nest. The Hornets would not be a very good host to the Moriah Vikings as they would jump out and take control of the game with a 28-7 first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings would look to get back in the game with a 17-11 quarter although the Hornets would take the 39-24 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the second half the third quarter would be very evenly contested as the Hornets would have the slim 21-18 quarter and expand their lead to 60-42 into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Vikings would do their best to get back in the game with a 12-7 quarter but it wouldn't be enough as the Hornets would get the 67-54 victory. It would be the start of the last weekend of regular season games from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena and the #5 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be looking to avenge one of their four losses on the season as they would host the Buffalo State Bengals and make the push for the number 2 seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Conference Tournament. The Bengals would be looking to get the sweep of the Cardinals on the season and get off to a quick start as they would score just 2:53 into the game on the Anthony Morin goal. The game would stay there till there were five minutes left in the second period when the Cardinals would get the equalizer on the Kevin Weaver Vitale powerplay goal to make it a 1-1 game. The Bengals would regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Joe Glamos powerplay goal. The lead would be short-lived though as the Cardinals would tie the game up 75 seconds later on the Jake Layni goal The Cardinals would get their first lead of the game at the 12:31 mark of the third period when Ryan Butler would score to give the Cardinals would get the lead at 3-2. It would be the last regular season game for the #8 Beekmantown Eagles as they would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena on senior night. It would just take 2:27 into the game before we had our first goal from Novak Jarus for the Eagles to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Cougars would come right back and tie the game up at one on the Eddie Bulriss goal just two minutes later. About halfway through the period, the Eagles would retake the lead on the shorthanded goal by Zach Lapier to make it a 2-1 game. The Cougars would answer the bell right back just 20 seconds later on the Wayne Simpson goal to tie the game at two. The Eagles come out swinging in the second period and take the 3-2 lead just seven into the period on the Louis Sweenor goal. The Eagles would stay on fire as they would score again just 1:20 later as Novak Jarus would get his second goal of the game to make it a 4-2 game. The Cougars would come back again and make it a one-goal again on the Wayne Simpson second of the evening to make it a 4-3 game. The game would stay there till the 6:27 mark of the third period when Owen Ebersol would tie the game for the Cougars at four. The Eagles from there would take control of the game as they would get three unanswered goals from Louis Sweenor (two) and Zach Lapier as the Eagles secured the 7-4 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles would finish off the sectional season with a perfect 8-0 record and the regular season at 17-3 while the Northeastern Clinton Cougars fall to 4-14-1 on the season. Boquet Valley's Ella Lobdell (15) celebrates with the Griffins faithful as she enters the 1,000-points club. It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference of Section VII Girl's Basketball in Plattsburgh as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Boquet Valley Griffins in a rematch of the Section VII Class D Finals from a year ago that took place about 5 miles down the road. The game would be low-scoring through the opening eight minutes as the home Knights would have the 9-8 lead. In the second quarter, the scoring would stay low as the defense would still stand tall as the Griffins would win the quarter 9-6 and take the 17-15 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be another great defensive quarter as the Knights would get the 6-5 quarter but the Griffins would still have the 22-21 lead as they went to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, there would be a milestone that would be reached as Ella Lobdell would be the newest member of the 1,000-point club and from there it would seem like both teams had a major weight lifted off them as the Griffins would end up winning the quarter 16-11 which would be half the team's points in that quarter alone. It would be the second meeting of the year between the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers and the SaranacSpartans this time from the Amer-Can North Sports Center in Section VII Boy's Hockey. The Spartans would get the game started fast as Adrian Barnes would get the opening goal of the game just 1:51 into the game and the Spartans would be off and running as they would add three more goals in the period from Ashtyn Catlin, Evan Patrie, and Landen Duprey and take the 4-0 lead after the first period. In the second period the good times would start rolling for the Spartans would add a five spot in the period on goals from Landen Duprey three in the period and four in the game and Noah Miner and Jonathan Coryer would get the other two. While Ayden McCormick would get the Lakers on the board in the period the Spartans would be in control with the 9-1 lead after the second period. In the third period, the Spartans would empty the bench and get the other players in the game. The Spartans would still get 4 goals in period two coming from Tom Sorensen (his first two of his high school career) with the other two coming from Ryan Campbell and Landen Duprey his fifth of the game as the Spartans would get the 13-1. In the winning effort, Shawn McLane would make 15 saves on the night as the Spartans would go to 11-7-1 on the season. It would be a matchup between neighboring sections as the Christain Brothers Academy Brothers from section II would come to Plattsburgh and the Ameri-can North Sports Center and take on the Plattsburgh Hornets. The opening goal of the game would come with about four minutes left in the first period when Patrick Feranec would light the lamp for the 1-0 Brothers lead. The lead would be short-lived though as the Hornets would come back about two minutes later and get the equalizer to tie the game at one on the Braeden Calkins goal. The game would stay there through most of the second period until Brothers Dom Waters would make it a 2-1 game with five minutes left in the period. The Hornets would come back again and tie the game at two on the powerplay goal from Cooper Holland 1:18 later in the period. In the third period though the Brothers would be too much for the Hornets on this day as they would get three goals from Dom Waters, Mason Famulare, and Ethan Premo while the Hornets would get one from Braeden Calkins as the Brothers would get the 5-3 win. As for the game on the ice, the Cardinals would have the lone goal of the game with 39 seconds left in the first period from Mattie Norton. The Cardinals would have plenty of chances throughout the afternoon they just weren't able to light the lamp the rest of the night as Potsdam State's Maggie Parent would make 49 saves as the Cardinals would get the 1-0 victory. It would be an interconference matchup inside section seven boys' basketball this Saturday afternoon as the Plattsburgh Hornets would be one of the top teams in the section this year the Crown Point Panthers. The bigger Plattsburgh Hornets would leave little to the imagination on this day as they would have their way with the Panthers in the first half and have a 47-19 lead at the break. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be more of the same as the Hornets would have a 27-15 quarter and take a 74-34 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would empty the bench and get everyone in the game and the Panthers would win the quarter 16-10 but on the scoreboard, it would be all Hornets on this afternoon with an 84-51 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would improve to 10-8 on the season and the Panthers would fall to 12-5 as both teams are coming down the playoff stretch and are looking forward to the sectionals. The Spartans would show off why they are the tenth team in the state as they would get off to a quick start and take the 19-7 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the home Hornets would do their best to keep the game where it is as the Spartans would have a 17-13 quarter and take the 36-20 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half and the third quarter the Hornets would try and get back in the game with a 13-11 quarter but the Spartans would still have the 47-33 lead as they would go into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans would leave little to decide the game as they would outscore the Hornets 18-6 and take the 65-39 win. It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference in Plattsburgh as the Bolton Jaguars would travel up to take on the Seton Catholic Knights in Girl's Basketball action. It would be a slow start out of the gate as the Seton Catholic Knights would hold just the 8-1 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the offense would start to heat out for the Knights as they would have a 10-4 quarter and take the 18-5 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarter the defenses would still stay on top as the Knights would have a 8-4 quarter and take the 26-9 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter with it looking like the Knights would have the game in hand the Jaguars would do their best to get back in the game with an 11-8 quarter but the nights would hold on for the 34-20 victory. With a couple of weeks left in the regular season, we would have the Northeastern Clinton Cougars traveling to Plattsburgh and the Amer-Can North Sports Center to tangle with the #18 Saranac Spartans in Section VII Hockey. The game would start fast and fierce with both teams getting a goal in the first five minutes of the game. Then with 5:42 left in the opening period, the upset-minded Cougars would strike on the Wade Simpson goal to give the Cougars the 2-1 lead. The game would stay there till about the 7:35 mark of the second when Landon Duprey would knock in the rebound and tie the game at two. Then about 75 seconds later the Spartans would take the lead as Jackson Coryer would find the back of the net and the Spartans would take the 3-2 lead. Then just 40 seconds later the Spartans would expand their lead to two goals as it would become a 4-2 game on the Noah Miner powerplay goal. The quick attack would continue for the Spartans as they would score again about a minute later on the Ashytn Catlin goal as they took the 5-2 lead. Then to finish off the scoring in the second period Landon Duprey would finish off the hat trick with just about 2:30 left to give the Spartans the 6-2 lead. In the third period, the Spartans would give a lot of the kids that don't see a lot of playing time sometime in the period and there would be no scoring throughout and the Spartans hold on for the 6-2 win. It would be the crosstown rivalry matchup as the Beekmantown Eagles would make the short 7-mile trek over to Plattsburgh High School and take on the Hornets in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action. The game would be tight through the first 8 minutes of the game with the Hornets having a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the game would stay tight but the the Eagles would have a better quarter with a 17-12 quarter and take the 30-26 lead into the break. When the teams returned for the second half the Eagles would stay hot and be able to expand on their lead at 48-38 as they would have a 18-12 quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would just be too much for the Hornets on this night as they would have a 14-10 quarter and capture the 62-48 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles go to 7-5 while the Hornets fall to 8-6 on the season as the two teams battle for the division win down the stretch. Gallery

The Beekmantown Eagles are crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girl's Hockey champions with a 9-0 win over the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers at the Ronald B Stafford Ice. It would be the NYSPHSAA Section VII Championship in Girl's Hockey and it would feature the #1 Beekmantown Eagles at 18-1 against the #2 Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers at 3-16 from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of a decent crowd. The Eagles would come soaring in the first period and would get three unanswered goals from Avery Parker, Sophia Amaya-Gutierrez, and Janna Ruest and take the 3-0 lead after the first period. When the teams returned for the second period the Eagles would keep their foot on the gas and would have a five-goal outburst in the second with goals from Meegan Burdo, Katie McCormick, Sophia Amaya-Guiterrez (the second of the night), Lilly Pratt, and Ele Fullman and they would take control with the 8-0 lead. In the third period with the game in hand, the teams would empty the benches and let the rest of the teams play and the Eagles would add one more in the period Ele Fullman would get her second of the night as the Beekmantown Eagles get the 9-0 win. In the winning effort, they will advance to the NYSPHSAA Regional Tournament and will play the Adirondack United on February 8th in the opening round as they look to get revenge on their only loss of the season. The Saranac Spartans would stay in the region for a game the next evening this time against Division I Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The Spartans would get the opening goal of the game from Landon Duprey at the 6:27 mark of the opening period to give them the 1-0 lead. The Blue Streaks would keep coming and they would tie the game up at one on the Andrew Nelsen goal to make it a 1-1 game. However, the Spartans would answer back with 24 seconds left in the period and regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Nolan Miner goal. In the second the Spartans would get the lone goal of the period from Gabe Moore on the rebound at the 1216 mark of the period to make it a 3-1 game. The game would stay there till the 6:26 mark of the third period when the Spartans would strike again and make it a three-goal lead at 4-1 on the Brody McComber goal. However, the Blue Streaks would not go away as they would get two goals within a minute with about five minutes left from Jayson Carpenter and Jack Murauskas to make it a 4-3 game. From there the Spartans defense would be up to the task and would stand tall against the Blue Streaks list minute attempts to tie the game to hold on for the 4-3 win. In the losing effort for the Blue Streaks Matt Barber would make 25 saves as the Blue Streaks fall to 10-7-1 and will be back in action against state-ranked Shenendehowa on Wednesday. While the Saranac Spartans would get the win and go to 9-7-1 on the season and Mason Patnode would make 35 saves on the night and will hit the ice again Tuesday back in sectional play against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at AC North Sports Center. Southern Maine's Mason Palmer with the body save on Skidmore's Zach Lindewirth (47) to at the time preserve the one-goal lead. It would be a match-up inside the New England Hockey Conference as the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds would take on the Southern Maine Huskies in front of 900 passionate fans at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The home Thoroughbreds would get the opening goal of the game at the 4:42 mark of the first period when Patrick Kaeden scored at the 4:42 mark for the 1-0 lead. The Huskies would be able to get the equalizer though on the shorthand when John Hagan would light the lamp at the 8"34 mark of the period to tie the game at one and that's how the first period would end. The Thoroughbreds would be able to retake the lead at 2-1 on the Mason Beecher goal at the 5:48 mark. The lead would be short-lived as the Huskies would answer back about 90 seconds later to tie the game at two on the Jakub Suran goal. Then about three minutes later the Huskies would forge ahead and get the go-ahead goal at the 10:37 mark on the Ethan McDuffie for the 3-2 Huskies lead. The game would stay there till the 11:51 mark of the third period when Matt Sullivan would score on the Huskies powerplay to make it a 4-2 game. From there the Husky's defense would stand tall and hold on for the 4-2 upset victory over the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds. In the winning effort, the Huskies Mason Palmer would make 41 saves as they go to 8-12-3 on the season. For the Thoroughbreds Brandon Tate would make 23 saves as they fall to 16-5-3 on the season. Queensbury's shooter with the quick flick that would beat Saranac's Shawn McLane on the glove side for the goal as Queensbury got the 6-5 win. The Saranac Spartans would travel down to Section II Friday night and play the #6 Queensbury Spartans on the pink rink night for cancer awareness in the battle of Spartans. The Saranac Spartans would wear their new black jerseys for cancer awareness while Queensbury would wear pink with a family member's name on the back that was touched by cancer in front of a packed house. The Queensbury Spartans would have a 3-1 lead after the opening 17 minutes while the lone Saranac goal came from Evan Patrie. In the second period, each team would get a pair of goals to make it a 4-2 game after the second 17 minutes. In the third period, both teams would bring the offense as there would be a combined 5 goals in the period but the Queensbury Spartans powerplay would just be too much as they get a couple on the powerplay to secure the 6-5 win. The biggest one would be right after Saranac had made it 5-4 with about six minutes left in the game. However, the Queensbury Spartans would on for the win as Eagn Breault would make 34 saves as they went to 13-3 on the season. In the losing effort, Shawn McLane would make 23 saves in a great effort as Saranac falls to 8-7-1 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow as they play another Section II team in the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks. Plattsburgh's Bryan Kemokai with the two from the wing as part of a six-point night. It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley athletic conference in section VII tonight from the Plattsburgh High School as the Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the Patriots from Ausable Valley on the hardwood in boys basketball. The Hornets would jump out to a fast pace on the start and have a 23-6 lead on the Patriots after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, the Patriots would have a better offensive output but the Hornets would still win the quarter 23-14 and take the 46-20 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be more of the same as the Hornets would have a 26-11 quarter and take the convincing 72-31 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter both teams would unload the benches and the Hornets would get the 10-5 quarter for the 82-36 victory. In the win for the Hornets, Max Filosca would lead the way with 12 points as they went to 8-3 on the season while the Patriots would fall to 2-11 on the season but Hayden Bombard would lead all scorers with 18 points on the night.
