ECAC Tournament Championship: #2 Cornell Big Red Vs #7 St. Lawerence Saints March 23rd 2024

The Cornell Big Red are crowned the 2024 ECAC Hockey champions for the first time in 14 years as they defeat the St. Lawerence Saints 3-1. It would be championship time in Lake Placid, NY, and the famed Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4,912 fans to settle the ECAC Hockey Conference champion and it would feature the #2 Cornell Big Red going after their first title since 2010. The #7 St Lawerence Saints are going after their first title since 2001 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Big Red would get the opening answer of the game at the 6:15 mark of the first period on Jonathan Castagna's tenth goal of the season for the 1-0 Big Red lead. The game would stay there till the 5:13 mark of the second period when the Big Red and Jonathan Castagna would strike again for a 2-0 lead and that is how the second period would end. The Saints not wanting their Cinderella run to end would come out firing in the third period and cut the lead to 1 on the Cameron Buhl goal only his 4th of the season at the 4:15 mark. Coming down the streak the Saints would keep fighting for that equalizer and have the chance to tie the game. Although with the extra attacker on the ice, the Big Red would seal the game with the Jack O'Leary empty net goal to give the Big Red the 3-1 win and their first championship in 14 years. In the winning effort of the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 31 saves as the Cornell Big Red advanced to the NCAA Tournament. As for the St Lawerence Saints, their season will end a little short of their goal as Ben Kraws would have 26 saves as they finish at 14-19-6. Gallery

ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #1 Quinnipaic Bobcats Vs #7 St Lawerence Saints March 22nd 2024

St. Lawerence's Ben Kraws (31) with a save right to the chest off the stick of Quinnipiac's Anthony Cipollone (18) as they looked to get on the board. It is that time of year as we head back to Lake Placid, NY, and the Herb Brooks Arena for the ECAC Championship weekend for the 20th edition that would take place in Lake Placid and the first game of the semi-finals night would see the #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #7 St Lawerence Saints in front of around 4,000 fans. The game would be scoreless through the first period with the teams each getting six shots on net. In the second period the Cinderella team of the tournament the Saints would get the 1-0 lead 7:43 into the period on Tomas Mazura's goal only his sixth of the season. The Saints wouldn't be done though just about four minutes later they would score again this time on the Powerplay from Max Dorrington for only second on the season and take the 2-0 lead and that's how the second period would end. In the third period the Saint's defense would be up to the challenge as they would be able to stop all that the Bobcats would throw at them and get an empty netter in the closing minute of the game from Ty Naaykens for the 3-0 win. With the win the Saint's dream playoff season will continue for one more night as they advance to the championship tomorrow night against the winner of the Cornell Big Red and the Dartmouth Big Green for the right to head to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort, the Saint's Ben Kraws would make 22 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 14-8-6 on the season while the Quinnipiac Bobcats will wait for there at large bid Sunday and go to 26-9-2 on the season. Cornell's Ian Shane (30) with the save on the scramble play in front of the net as he goes post to post for the save. It would be the second game from the ECAC Championships on the semi-final Friday as the #2 Cornell Big Red would take on the #4 Dartmouth Big Green at the Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4,015 fans for the right to go the championship tomorrow. The Big Green would get the lone goal of the first period from Sean Chisholm for his eighth of the season to give the Big Green the 1-0 lead at the 15:02 mark of the period. The Big Red would come out hot in the second period though and would fight back and tie the game at one on the Ondrej Psenicka goal at the 4:15 mark. The game would only be tied short time though as Dartmouth would regain the lead at 2-1 a minute later on the John Fusco goal for his 6th of the season. Then at the 12:18 mark of the period, the Big Green would expand their lead to 3-1 on the powerplay goal from John Fusco for his second of the game and taking control of the game. The game would stay there till the third period and in the third period, the Big Red would answer quick just 43 seconds in on the powerplay goal from Dalton Bancroft his 12th of the season to make it a 3-2 game. Then at the 8:32 mark of the period, the Big Red would tie the game at three on the Kyle Penney goal his ninth of the season. Just 50 seconds later the Big Red would come back and take the 4-3 lead on the Ryan Walsh goal his 12th of the season. Then in the game's closing minutes, the Big Redw would add a coupleempty net goals from Nick Desantis to secure the Big Red's 6-3 victory. In the winning effort for the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 27 saves as they went on to win the white claw title for the first time since 2010 as they will bottle the St Lawerence Saints. Brockport State's Nick Askin (8) with the jump shot for the goal as part of a five-goal game in the 17-9 Eagles win. It would be SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would play the Brockport State Golden Eagles and it would be a senior day as the Cardinals would end their home portion of the season. The Eagles would start on fire and jump out to the 6-3 lead scoring for the Cardinals would be John Eiseman (twice) and Cam Morin. In the second quarter the Eagles would extend their lead with a 3-1 quarter and take a 9-4 lead into the half scoring for the Cardinals would be Donald Woods. In the third quarter the Golden Eagles would take control of the game with a 5-1 quarter and take a 14-5 lead scoring for the Cardinals was Logan Vilardi. In the fourth quarter the Golden Eagles would put the final touches on the Cardinals with a 5-2 quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Cam Morin and John Eiseman as the Golden Eagles get the 19-7 win. Norwich's Merck Athena (0) with the shot on net that puts the side past Plattsburgh State's Jess Loch (32) as they would get the 14-12 win. It would be a matchup between the SUNYAC and the Great Northeast Conference from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Complex as the Plattsburgh Cardinals would host the Norwich Cadets. The game would start well for the home Cadets as they would get off to the 4-2 lead after the first quarter on goals from Cynthia Barnosky (twice), Caitlin Nash, and Maddy Garcia. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would stay on top with the low-scoring affair with the 3-2 quarter on goals from Cynthia Barnosky (third and fourth), and Caitlin Nash with her second of the game as the Cardinals would have the 7-4 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter the game would stay tight. Still, the Cadets would cut into the lead with a 4-3 quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Erica Dickinson, Cynthia Barnosjy (fifth), and Caitlin (third) as it would be 10-8 Cardinals as they entered the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Cadets would come out charging and take control of the game with a 6-2 quarter scoring for the Cardinals Lillian Gilroy and Janey Adans as the Cadets would get the come-from-behind victory at 14-12. In the losing effort for the Cardinals Jess Loch would still make 12 saves as they go to 1--3 on the season and will be back on the field Saturday as they take on Utica. The #3 ranked Duanesburg Eagles are crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girl's Basketball Northern Regional Class C Champions with a 51-29 win over #25 Moriah Vikings. It would be the quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Girl's Basketball Class C Championship and it would be a battle of the top 25 teams as the #3 Duanesburg Eagles would travel up to Clinton Community College and take on the #25 Moriah Vikings from the host section VII. The upset-looking Vikings would get off to a good start as they would be doubling up the Eagles with a 9-4 opening quarter for the early lead. In the second quarter, the Eagles would start to cut into the lead of the Vikings as they would have a 10-6 quarter to give the Vikings the slight 15-14 lead at the intermission. When the teams would return for the second half the Eagles would come out soaring with a 12-3 quarter to take the eight-point lead of 26-18 into the fourth quarter. The Eagles would be too much in the fourth quarter as they would have a 25-11 quarter to close out the Vikings with the 51-29 victory. In the winning effort, the Eagles will advance to the New York State Final Four behind the 35-point performance of Allison O'Hannah while the Moriah Vikings season will end. Gallery

#3 Moriah Vikings (VII) Vs. #6 Maple Hills Wildcats (II) March 9th 2024

The Moriah Vikings are crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Class C Northern Regional champions with a 43-40 victory over the Maple Hill Wildcats. It would be the second game of the day on Regional Finals day from Clinton Community College and this time it would be on the boy's side in Class C and a battle between the top ten teams for the right to head to Cool Insuring Arena as #3 Moriah Vikings from Section VII would meet up with #6 Maple Hills Wildcats from Section II. It would be a slow start to the game as both teams would come out shooting cold and the Vikings would have a slim 6-4 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would still be shooting cold on the day but the defenses would come up to the task as it would be a 7-6 quarter in favor of the Vikings giving them a 13-10 lead at the half. When the teams would return for the second half they would find their shot as both teams would score more in the third quarter than they did the whole first half as the Wildcats would have a 20-16 quarter and take a 30-29 lead into the final eight minutes of the game. In the last quarter, the game would go back and forth with the lead changing multiple timers down the stretch as the Vikings would have a 14-10 quarter and get the 43-40 victory. In the winning effort for the Moriah Vikings, Cooper Allen would lead the way with 20 points as they go to 21-2 on the season and head to the final four next weekend in Glenns Falls against the Haldane Blue Devils. The Northville Falcons would be crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Class D Girl's Basketball Northern Regional champion with the 60-30 victory over the Boquet Valley Griffins. It would be the third game on the day at the Clinton Community College Forrence Gym on Regional Final Saturday in front of another packed crowd this time we would see the #2 Northville Falcons from Section II taking on the host #13 Boquet Valley Griffins from Section VII. The game would start well for the Northville Falcons as they got out to the quick lead on the Griffins they would double them up after the first quarter at 14-7. In the second quarter, the Falcons would show why they are the number 2 team in the state as they would take control of the game with a 22-7 quarter and take a 36-14 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Griffins would do their best to stay with the Falcons but they would have no answer as the Falcons have a 12-10 quarter and take the 48-24 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter with the outcome of the game pretty much done with the Falcons would let up out there and still have a 12-6 quarter and secure the 60-30 victory to punch their ticket to the Hudson Valley Community College and NYSPHSAA Class D Final Four next weekend. In the winning effort for Northville Falcons, Hailey Monroe would lead the way with 29 points as they go to 20-3 on the season. The Middlebury Panthers punch their ticket to the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Frozen Four with a 2-0 win over the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. It would be time to start the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Tournament again from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the #4 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #6 Middlebury Panthers as the classic rivals would meet again with a ticket to the final four on the line in front of 900 passionate fans. The visiting Panthers would get the opening goal of the first period just over the halfway mark of the first period and take the 1-0 lead on the Audrey Lazar goal. The game would stay there till the 7:32 mark of the second period when the Panthers would double their lead to 2-0 on the Kate Flynn goal. From there defense would be the main course on the menu as it would be the only two goals on the day but it would not be without some great effort by the Cardinals to try and get back in the game. In the winning effort for the Panthers, Sophia Will would make 30 saves for the shutout victory. As for the Cardinals Lilla Nease would do her best stopping 15 of 17 on the day but the Cardinals would fall short of the final four for the first time since the 2011 season as their season comes to an end at 22-5-1. The North Warren Cougars are crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Class D Boy's Basketball champions with the 57-56 win over the Schroon Lake Wildcats. It would be the last game of the day from Clinton Community College as part of Regional Final Saturday and it would be in Class D NYSPHSAA Boy's Basketball in front of another packed house as #6 North Warren Cougars (II) and the #11 Schroon Lake Wildcats (VII) for the right to go to Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls and would they save a great game for the end. The game would be tight through the first eight minutes of the game as the Wildcats would have the slim 13-12 lead/ In the second quarter the lead would change hands a couple of times but still would be tight as the Cougars would have a 15-11 quarter and take the slim 27-24 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be the same chorus different verse out there as the Cougars would have an 11-9 quarter and take a 38-33 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, both teams would come and shoot out of the gym and the scoreboard would be on fire with a 23-19 Schroon Lake quarter. The Wildcats would take the 1-point lead with ten seconds left on the Logan Bush free throw. Although the North Warren Cougars would drive right back down the court and Semaj Cuyler (1) would lay it off the window for the score and give the Cougars the 57-56 win and the berth in the final four. In the winning effort for the Cougars Wyatt Jennings would lead the way with 17 points as they go to 20-4 on the season. Clarkson's James Meredith (18) and Plattsburgh State's Cythina Barnosky (20) battle for the loose ball behind the Cardinals net. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals Women's Lacrosse team would return home for a nonconference matchup against a fellow north country for the Clarkson Golden Knights at the Fieldhouse Complex. The game would not start good for the home Cardinals as they would be down 8-2 after just the first quarter scoring for the Cardinals were Cynthia Barnosky and Maddy Garcia while the Golden Knights would have Grace Graney (twice), Makenna Cassin (twice), Julia Lavarnway, Gabby Cranfield, Madelynn Barnum (twice). In the second quarter the Cardinals would do a little better on defense as they would hold the Golden Knights to four goals but their offense wouldnt have much as they would only get one for a 4-1 quarter getting the lone goal for the Cardinals would be Janey Adams while the Knights would have Julia Larnaway (third of the game), Mckenna Cassin (third of the game), Madelynn Barnum (second of the game) and Gabby Cranfield (second of the game). When the teams returnd for the third quarter the Cardinals looked way better but they wouldn't be able to get over the hump of the Golden Knights as It would be a 4-4 quarter to make it a 16-7 game with Caitlin Nash, Fiona Fitzgerald and Cynthia Barnosky (second of the game) while Hailey Millington, Brooklynne Perrigo, Julia Larnaway (a fourth of the game) and Makenna Cassin (third of the game). In the fourth quarter the teams would just finish out the game and the Knights would have a 2-1 quarter getting the lone goal for the Cardinals would be Cynthia Barnosky (third of the game) while Madelynn Barnum would get her third and fourth of the game as the Golden Knights would get the 18-8 victory. In the winning effort, the Golden Knights go to 2-0 on the season and the goalies combine for 3 saves on the afternoon. While the Plattsburgh State Cardinals went to 1-2 on the season and had 11 saves in the game. Gallery

The Northeastern Clinton Cougars are crowned the 2024 Section VII Class B Boy's Basketball champions with their 61-51 win over the Saranac Lake Red Storm. It would be the opening game of the second day of the Section VII Basketball Championships from Clinton Community College of 5 on the schedule today. It would see the top-seeded Saranac Lake Red Storm taking on the #3 Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the class B Boys Basketball finals. The Cougars would be looking for the upset from the beginning as they would get off to the early lead at 13-10 after the first eight minutes of the game. In the second quarter, the Cougars would stay hot as they used the quarter to pull ahead with a 17-10 quarter to have a 30-20 lead at the intermission when the teams returned for the third quarter the Red Storm would regroup and come out looking to take the game back over with a 19-15 quarter to cut the lead nearly in half at 45-39 Cougars. In the fourth and final quarter, the Cougars would keep it together and regain the edge with a 16-12 quarter and get the ten-point win and a 61-51 section vii class B boys basketball title. In the winning effort for the Cougars Collen Castine would lead the way with 23 points. With the win the Northeastern Clinton Cougars advance to the NYSPHSAA Class B Tournament and will play the winner of section ii on March 6th at Averl Park. Gallery

The Moriah Vikings would be crowned the 2024 Section VII Class C Boy's Basketball champions for the 11th straight season as they defeat the Northern Adirondack Bobcats 70-62. It would be the third game of the day at the NYSPHSAA Section VII Basketball championships and this time it would be for the Boys Basketball Class C title and it would be #1 Moriah Vikings and the #2 Northern Adirondack Bobcats In the battle of David versus Goliath the game would be going the way of David as the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would have the 21-17 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings would start to knock the rust off and get in the groove but the Bobcats would play a scrappy game the Vikings would win the quarter 14-13 but the Bobcats would have the 34-31 lead at the intermission. In the second half though it would be the Vikings off their past ten sectional title that would come out and they would start making their shoot as they would have a 24-14 quarter and take the 55-48 lead into the last eight minutes. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats would do their best to get the lead back but Goliath would just be too much on this day as the Vikings won the last quarter 15-14 and secured the 70-62 victory. In the winning effort for the Vikings, Cooper Allen would lead the way with 27 points. The Moriah Vikings would make their annual return to the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and will play the winner of the Section X and II game on Saturday, March 9th back at Clinton Community College for the right to make the trip back down to Glenns Falls and the Cool Insuring Arena. The Cortland Red Dragons are crowned the 2024 SUNYAC Women's Hockey Champions as they defeat the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals. It would be conference championship Saturday afternoon once again for the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals except this time they would be going after the first ever SUNYAC title as they would take on the #2 Cortland State Red Dragons in front of 1200 fans at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. It would be a very evenly contested game through the first period as both teams would have their chances but no one could get on the board. The game would finally get the first goal of the game at the 10:13 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would take the 1-0 lead on the Mae Olshansky powerplay goal. The lead would be short-lived as the Cortland State Red Dragons would answer back just over three minutes later on the Mia Hisanick powerplay goal to tie the game at two. The game would remain there through the rest of the second period and all of the third period sending the first-ever crowning for the SUNYAC title into the overtime period. In the overtime we would have to answer quickly as Cortland State's Elena Eichmann would light the lamp just 2:33 into the overtime and the party would be on for the Cortland State Red Dragons as they would get their first-ever women's conference tournament title and head to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort, Molly Goergen would make 26 saves on the day as they go to 19-5-2. The season is not over though for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they will get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 21-4-2 mark on the season and both teams will find out their opponent when the bracket is announced Sunday evening. The Schroon Lake Wildcats would be crowned the 2024 Section VII Class D Champions with their 63-55 double-overtime victory over the Crown Point Panthers. It would be the fourth game of the day and seventh game of championship weekend and it would be for the Class D Boy's title it would feature the #1 Crown Pont Panthers and the #4 Schroon Lake Wildcats as they battle in the rematch of last years title which was also a thriller. The game would be starting well for the top-seeded Crown Point Panthers as they would jump out to the big lead at 20-8 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Wildcats would start their chargeback with a 15-8 quarter but the Panthers would still have the 30-23 advantage as they headed into the intermission period. When the teams returned for the third quarter defense would be the name of the game as the Wildcats would have a slim advantage of 8-7 for the quarter and the Panthers would still hold the lead at 37-31. When the teams went into the fourth quarter the Wildcats would leave everything out there and tie the game at 41 with a 10-4 quarter and they would even have a shot at the end to win it regulation but the game would head to overtime. In the overtime frame, the teams would trade baskets back and forth and a second overtime would be needed but in the second overtime, the Wildcats would get control and win the overtime 19-11 get the 63-55 victory, and be crowned the 2024 Class D Section VII champions. The Boquet Valley Griffiths are crowned the 2024 Section VII Class D Champions with their 40-37 victory over the Chazy Eagles. It would be the last game of the weekend 2-day championships from the Clinton Community College and the Section VII Basketball championships and it would feature the #1 Chazy Eagles and the #2 Boquet Valley Griffins battling for the Girls Basketball Class D title. The game would be low-scoring and tight through the first quarter as the Eagles would have a slight 9-8 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Griffiths would find their shot and start to pull away from the Eagles with an 11-5 quarter and take the 19-14 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be a complete flip of the last quarter as the Eagles would have a 15-9 quarter giving the low by slim lead as they went to the fourth quarter at 29-28. In the fourth quarter the game would go back and forth with the lead being traded a few times through the quarter but when the final buzzer would ring the Griffiths would have a 12-9 quarter and secure the 40-37 victory and the 2024 Section VII Class D title. With the win the Boquet Valley Griffiths advance to the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament and will have a quarterfinal game on March 9th at Clinton Community College against the winner of section II for the right to go to the state final four the following weekend at Hudson Valley Community College. The Cortland State Red Dragons have crowned the 2024 SUNYAC Men's Hockey champion with the 3-2 overtime victory over the Plattsburgh State Cardinals. It would be the SUNYAC Championship from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse with the winner getting the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,188 fans. It would be the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting the #4 Cortland State Red Dragons and having seen the Cardinals win both regular season matches. The game would be tight through the first period with both teams getting their scoring chances but no one would be able to flip on the red light to get a goal and it would be scoreless after the first period. In the second period, we would get the first goal of the game, unfortunately, it would be the Cortland State Red Dragons getting the opening goal of the game at the 11:28 mark from Colby Seitz to make it a 1-0 game and that's how the second period would end. The Cardinals would waste no time tying the game up in the third period just 58 seconds in on the powerplay goal from Ryan Bonfield. The game would stay there till there was 4:38 left in the game the Red Dragons would regain the lead at 2-1 on the Nate Berke goal. Down the stretch, though the Cardinals would pull the goal to try and get the equalizer, and with 33 seconds left they would do just that on Ryan Bonfield’s second goal of the game and the game would head to overtime. In the overtime, the Red Dagons would get the game-winner as they would get the lead for the third and final time on the night on the Anthony Bernando goal and the 3-2 Dragons win. In the winning effort, Jack Riedell would make 41 saves on the night as the Cortland State Red Dragons get the conference's auto bid and head to the NCAA Tournament. As for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, Jacob Hearne makes 31 saves and their 21-5-2 record will have to wait and see if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

The Beekmantown Eagles celebrate as they are crowned the 2024 Section VII Class A Champions at Clinton Community College. It would be the second game of the tripleheader of the Section VII Championship of Basketball Day 1 from Clinton Community College. It would be the only boys' game of the first day as the #1 Beekmantown Eagles and the #2 Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up for the Class A Finals. The game would start with the Plattsburgh Hornets having the upset on their mind and they would show it with a 19-13 quarter to get the game started. In the second quarter, the Eagles would start to find their shot, take a bite out of the Hornet's lead with a 13-8 quarter, and make it a one-point game at the half with the Hornets holding onto the 1-point lead at 27-26. When the teams returned for the second half the see-saw affair would continue as the Eagles would get that 1 point and have a 14-13 quarter to make the game even as they headed into the fourth quarter tied at 40. In that fourth quarter, the offenses on both sides would come alive but the Eagles would be just too much down the stretch as they would have a 20-14 quarter and get the 60-54 victory. In the winning effort, Beekmantown's Josh Sands would lead the way with a game-high 20 points and go to 16-5 on the season. With the win, the Beekmantown Eagles enter the NYSPHSAA Tournament and will play the winner of section ii on Wednesday from Averill Park. Gallery

The Saranac Spartans are crowned the 2024 Section VII Class B Champions over the #1 Northeastern Clinton Cougars. It would be the last game of the opening day of the Section VII Basketball Championships and it would feature #1 Saranac Spartans and the #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars for the Class B Girl's championship. It would be a slow start for both teams as the Spartans would have a slim low-score lead of 6-4 after the first quarter. The offenses would start to wake up in the second quarter as the Spartans would have a 9-6 quarter and a 15-10 lead at the intermission. When the team returned for the third quarter it would be an even matchup with more scoring but the Spartans were still slightly better with a 14-13 quarter and took the 29-23. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars would try everything that they had to be able to get over on the Spartans and would outscore them 13-10 but it would not be enough as the Spartans would get the 39-36 victory. In the winning effort, the Spartans would end the Cougar's undefeated season and go to 19-3 on the season as Brenna Ducatte would lead the way with 13 points. With the win, the Saranac Spartans will enter the NYSPHSAA Class B Girl's State Tournament and will play the winner of Section II in the opening round on Wednesday. Gallery

The Beekmantown Eagles have crowned the 2024 Section VII A Champions with a 42-36 victory over the Peru Nighthawks. It would be the opening game of Section VII Basketball Championship weekend from the campus of Clinton Community College and it would feature #1 Beekmantown Eagles and #2 Peru Nighthawks in the Girl's Class A Finals. The Nighthawks would come into the game with upset on their mind and in the first quarter they would show it with a 10-4 quarter. In the second quarter, it would be the complete opposite as the Eagles would settle and their offense would come as they would win the quarter 10-3 and have a slim 14-13 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter the teams would play very evenly as the game would be tied at 26 as they head into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter the Eagles would have a 16-10 quarter as there would be over a third of the points scored in just that quarter along the Eagles would get the come-from-behind victory at 42-36. The Moriah Vikings are crowned the 2024 Section VII Class C Champions with their 37-33 victory over the Ticonderoga Sentinels. It would be the second game of the day from the Clinton Community College and this time it would be for the Section VII Class C Girls Basketball finals in front of another great crowd. It would get off to a slow start as both teams were feeling the pressure of the championship game and the upset-minded Sentinels would have the slim lead at 8-6 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings would start to find their shot and groove on the court as they would have an 11-6 quarter and take the lead at 17-14 as the teams broke for the intermission. When they did return though the Sentinels would come back regrouped and focused as they would have a 13-8 quarter and take the slim 2-point lead at 27-25 as they entered the championship quarter in that quarter the Vikings would answer the bell and shut the Sentinels with a 12-6 quarter and get the Section VII C Girls Basketball title with a 37-33 victory. In the winning effort for the Vikings Hannah Bedore would lead the way with a 13-point afternoon. Next for the Vikings will be the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and game back at Clinton Community on Saturday, March 9th against the winner of a game between the winner of Section X and II for the right to go to the state final four at Hudson Valley Community College.
