The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Cortland State Red Dragons in the opener of SUNYAC play for the season. The opener would be a shootout as the Red Dragons would get the first two goals on the game in the first eight minutes from Johnny Facchini and Nate Berke. Although the Cardinals would get on the board at the 12:51 mark of the period on Johnny Mancuso's goal and that's where the first period would end. In the second period, the teams would trade a pair of goals with Ethan Homitz and Sutter Donegan scoring for the Red Dragons while Joey Mancuso would get a pair and the hat trick on the night. Although the cardinals would enter the third period trailing 4-3. The Red Dragons would strike early in the third period on the Domenic Settimo goal to make it a 5-3 game. The Cardinals would answer back at the 11:48 mark to make it a one-goal game on the Jake Lanyi goal. Then with just about 2:30 left in the game, the Cardinals would tie the game up at 5 on the Bennett Stockdale goal and that's where the game would stay and force overtime. In the overtime you would see the NCAA's new overtime rule as it would be 3x3 and in that the Cardinals would get the game-winner with 1:30 left on Bennett Stockdale's second of the night. In the winning effort, Anthony Del Tufo would make 34 saves as they go to 2-1 on the season while Cortland State falls to 1-1 on the season.
