Plattsburgh State's Brittani Campbell (12) splits the defenders and takes flight for the layup as part of a five-point night. It would be the home opener of the 2022 portions of the season as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals host the Cortland State Red Dragons in SUNYAC action. It would not start off good for the home Cardinals as they would be down early and big after the first quarter 18-5 to the Red Dragons. The in the second quarter the Red Dragons would be a blur to the Cardinals with a 30-13 quarter and the Cardinals would trail 48-18 at the break. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Red Dragons would stay hot with a 17-7 quarter and have a 65-25 lead to head into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Cardinals wouldn't give up the fight and win the quarter 23-16. Although the Red Dragons would hold on for the convincing win at 81-48. as the Cardinals go to 3-8 on the season and the Red Dragons go to 9-2 on the season. Gallery

Kenmore/Grand Island @ Plattsburgh Hornets North Country Shootout January 5th 2022

Kennmore/Grand Island's Carolyn Bourgeault (30) with the shoulder save as part of a 20 save night. The game would start off good for the Hornets as they would get the lone goal of the first period from Ada Johnson for the 1-0 lead. Although Kenmore/Grand Island would answer back with three goals of their own in the second period from Carissa Buyea, Isabella Jayme, and Megan Pinzel to make it a 3-1 game. Then just a minute into the third period Kenmore/Grand Island would make it 4-1 on the Emiliana Cassillo goal. Although the Hornets would show some life and make it a 4-2 game on the Amaya Abellard goal at the 9:18 marl. Although in the closing minute of the game the Kenmore/Grand Island squad would ice the game away with an empty netter on Megan Pinzel's second goal of the game to secure the 5-2 win and tournament title. In the winning effort, Kenmore/Grand Island's Carolyn Vourgeault would make 20 saves while Amella Lebrun makes 20 saves on the night. Gallery

Saranac Lake Placid Lakers @ Plattsburgh Hornets Upstate New York Girls Hockey League January 5th 2022

Plattsburgh's Rachel Madore (22) stuffs the puck in the back of the net as part of a two-goal night. It would be a section vii game inside the Upstate New York Girl's Hockey League as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. It would take a bit but the home Hornets would get on the board first with a goal at the 6:47 mark of the first period when Amaya Abellard would light the lamp for the 1-0 lead. Then just two minutes later the Hornets would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Amanda Vaughn goal. Then with just under two minutes left in the opening period, the Hornets would take a 3-0 lead on the Rachel Madore power-play goal. When the teams came back for the second period the teams would play the period very evenly with the Hornets getting the only goal of the period in the final minute on Rachel Madore's second goal of the night to make it 4-0. In the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with a goal by Ada Johnson to secure a 5-0 win. In the winning effort, Angelica LeBraun would make 11 saves in the shutout victory as they went to 4-1-1 on the season. Gallery

Norwood Norfolk Icemen @ Saranac Chiefs December 31st 2021

It would be a non-conference tilt at the Amer-can North Sports Complex as the Saranac Chiefs would host the Norwood-Norfolk Icemen. The game would start off tight with two evenly matched teams as they would go through the first period with neither getting a goal. Although that would be changed quickly in the second period when the Chiefs would score 1:34 into the period on the Zack O'Connell goal. The Icemen would not let the deficit last long as they would get the equalizer at the 5:10 mark on a goal from John Front to tie the game at 1. They wouldn't waste time taking the lead either as they would wait just 90 seconds to make it 2-1 on the Ryley Ashley goal. The Chiefs would continue the fight through the period and tie the game up at 2 with just over a minute left in the period on the Hayden Buckley goal. Halfway through the third period the Icemen would regain the lead at 3-2 on the Braeden Bethel goal and secure the victory. Gallery

It would be a non-conference game at the Rouses Point Civic Center as the Northeastern Clinton Cougars would host the Norwood-Norfolk Icemen. The game would start off slow as the teams would trade a pair of goals in the first period with Owen Ebersol getting on the board for the Cougars. In the second period, the offenses would explode as they would combine for five goals. Scoring for the Cougars was Winfield Simpson and Reid LaValley while getting on the board for the Icemen would be Jayden Grant, Gavin Phillips, and Ryley Ashley to make it a 4-3 Icemen game. When they returned for the third period the offenses would stay hot as they would combine for six goals scoring for the Cougars would be Peyton Palmer and Owen Ebersol (twice, to finish off a four-goal night) giving the Icemen the 7-6 win. In the winning effort, the Icemen go to 3-7 while the Cougars fall to 1-4 on the season. The Icemen will be back in action tomorrow as they travel 30 minutes up the road and take on the Saranac Chiefs while the Cougars have to wait till next week and take on the same Saranac Chiefs. The game would start off good for the home Eagles as Luke Moser would get the quick goal at 1:57 of the first period for the early 1-0 lead. The Sandstoners would answer back just over two minutes later and tie the game at 1 on the John Friot goal. The Eagles would be in control the rest of the period with four more goals coming from Dalton Kane, Colin Latinville, Reid Fessette, and Luke Moser (second of the game) and have a commanding 5-1 lead at the end of one. In the second period, the Eagles would stay hot with another three goals Luke Moser (third and fourth of the night), Sweenor (shorthanded), and have an 8-1 lead. In the third period, the Eagles still couldn't be shut down as they would get another three goals Keegan Rodier, Anthony Marion, and Cooper Burdo to secure the 11-1. Peru Nighthawks Vs Saranac Chiefs December 28th 2021

Saranac's Layla Pellerin (20) with the jumper from the wing over Peru's Kortney McCarthy (3). It would be the final game of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and would feature the Saranac Chiefs and the Peru Nighthawks. The game would start off great for the Chiefs as their offense would explode out of the gate and build up a lead of 24-2 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Chiefs would go cold and the defense would step up for the Nighthawks as it would be a low-scoring 7-4 quarter and the Chiefs would have a 31-6 lead at the intermission. In the third quarter, the Nighthawks would be able to stay with them and actually have a 9-8 quarter and make it a 39-15 game headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would win the quarter but their slow start of the gate would be their undoing as they win the quarter 13-11 but the Chiefs would hold on for the 50-28 win. In the winning effort, the Chiefs go to 7-2 while the Nighthawks fall to 5-4 on the season. Gallery
