It would be championship time in Lake Placid, NY, and the famed Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4,912 fans to settle the ECAC Hockey Conference champion and it would feature the #2 Cornell Big Red going after their first title since 2010. The #7 St Lawerence Saints are going after their first title since 2001 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Big Red would get the opening answer of the game at the 6:15 mark of the first period on Jonathan Castagna's tenth goal of the season for the 1-0 Big Red lead. The game would stay there till the 5:13 mark of the second period when the Big Red and Jonathan Castagna would strike again for a 2-0 lead and that is how the second period would end. The Saints not wanting their Cinderella run to end would come out firing in the third period and cut the lead to 1 on the Cameron Buhl goal only his 4th of the season at the 4:15 mark. Coming down the streak the Saints would keep fighting for that equalizer and have the chance to tie the game. Although with the extra attacker on the ice, the Big Red would seal the game with the Jack O'Leary empty net goal to give the Big Red the 3-1 win and their first championship in 14 years. In the winning effort of the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 31 saves as the Cornell Big Red advanced to the NCAA Tournament. As for the St Lawerence Saints, their season will end a little short of their goal as Ben Kraws would have 26 saves as they finish at 14-19-6. Gallery

ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #2 Cornell Big Red Vs #4 Dartmouth Big Green March 22nd 2024

Cornell's Kyle Penney (22) puts the puck five holes on Dartmouth's Connor Black for the tying goal in the third period. It would be the second game from the ECAC Championships on the semi-final Friday as the #2 Cornell Big Red would take on the #4 Dartmouth Big Green at the Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4,015 fans for the right to go the championship tomorrow. The Big Green would get the lone goal of the first period from Sean Chisholm for his eighth of the season to give the Big Green the 1-0 lead at the 15:02 mark of the period. The Big Red would come out hot in the second period though and would fight back and tie the game at one on the Ondrej Psenicka goal at the 4:15 mark. The game would only be tied short time though as Dartmouth would regain the lead at 2-1 a minute later on the John Fusco goal for his 6th of the season. Then at the 12:18 mark of the period, the Big Green would expand their lead to 3-1 on the powerplay goal from John Fusco for his second of the game and taking control of the game. The game would stay there till the third period and in the third period, the Big Red would answer quick just 43 seconds in on the powerplay goal from Dalton Bancroft his 12th of the season to make it a 3-2 game. Then at the 8:32 mark of the period, the Big Red would tie the game at three on the Kyle Penney goal his ninth of the season. Just 50 seconds later the Big Red would come back and take the 4-3 lead on the Ryan Walsh goal his 12th of the season. Then in the game's closing minutes, the Big Redw would add a coupleempty net goals from Nick Desantis to secure the Big Red's 6-3 victory. In the winning effort for the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 27 saves as they went on to win the white claw title for the first time since 2010 as they will bottle the St Lawerence Saints. ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats Vs #7 St Lawerence Saints March 22nd 2024

Quinnipac's Andon Cerbone (27) with the open ice hit on the St. Lawerence skater that would knock the puck loose. It is that time of year as we head back to Lake Placid, NY, and the Herb Brooks Arena for the ECAC Championship weekend for the 20th edition that would take place in Lake Placid and the first game of the semi-finals night would see the #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #7 St Lawerence Saints in front of around 4,000 fans. The game would be scoreless through the first period with the teams each getting six shots on net. In the second period the Cinderella team of the tournament the Saints would get the 1-0 lead 7:43 into the period on Tomas Mazura's goal only his sixth of the season. The Saints wouldn't be done though just about four minutes later they would score again this time on the Powerplay from Max Dorrington for only second on the season and take the 2-0 lead and that's how the second period would end. In the third period the Saint's defense would be up to the challenge as they would be able to stop all that the Bobcats would throw at them and get an empty netter in the closing minute of the game from Ty Naaykens for the 3-0 win. With the win the Saint's dream playoff season will continue for one more night as they advance to the championship tomorrow night against the winner of the Cornell Big Red and the Dartmouth Big Green for the right to head to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort, the Saint's Ben Kraws would make 22 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 14-8-6 on the season while the Quinnipiac Bobcats will wait for there at large bid Sunday and go to 26-9-2 on the season. SUNYAC Men's Hockey Championship: #4 Cortland State Red Dragons @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 21st, 2024

The scramble in front of the net that Plattsburgh State's Jacob Hearne (31) keeps out of the net to keep the Red Dragons off the board. It would be the SUNYAC Championship from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse with the winner getting the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,188 fans. It would be the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting the #4 Cortland State Red Dragons and having seen the Cardinals win both regular season matches. The game would be tight through the first period with both teams getting their scoring chances but no one would be able to flip on the red light to get a goal and it would be scoreless after the first period. In the second period, we would get the first goal of the game, unfortunately, it would be the Cortland State Red Dragons getting the opening goal of the game at the 11:28 mark from Colby Seitz to make it a 1-0 game and that's how the second period would end. The Cardinals would waste no time tying the game up in the third period just 58 seconds in on the powerplay goal from Ryan Bonfield. The game would stay there till there was 4:38 left in the game the Red Dragons would regain the lead at 2-1 on the Nate Berke goal. Down the stretch, though the Cardinals would pull the goal to try and get the equalizer, and with 33 seconds left they would do just that on Ryan Bonfield’s second goal of the game and the game would head to overtime. In the overtime, the Red Dagons would get the game-winner as they would get the lead for the third and final time on the night on the Anthony Bernando goal and the 3-2 Dragons win. In the winning effort, Jack Riedell would make 41 saves on the night as the Cortland State Red Dragons get the conference's auto bid and head to the NCAA Tournament. As for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, Jacob Hearne makes 31 saves and their 21-5-2 record will have to wait and see if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Bennett Stockdale (15) with a tap-in goal for the game-winner in overtime that would send the faithful home happy and the Cardinals onto the semi-finals. It would be the start of the SUNYAC Men's Hockey tournament and the first-round game would see the #3 seed Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting their north country rivals the #6 Potsdam State Bears in front of 1500 passionate fans. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the midway point of the first period on the Bennett Stockdale goal to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The Beas would come back and tie the game with 4:45 left in the period on the Ryan Mahlmeister goal. The game would stay there until the 10:54 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would regain the lead at 2-1 on the Luk Jirousek goal. The Bears would once again come back and tie the game with 12 seconds left in the second period on the Jack Loran powerplay goal. The game would go into the third period tied at two where nothing would be settled on the night and there would be a need for overtime. It would take til there was 5:37 left in the first overtime when Bennett Stockdale would score to send the faithful hope happy with the 3-2 win. In the winning effort, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals will advance to the SUNYAC Semi-finals and take on longtime rival the #2 seed Oswego State Lakers. In the winning effort, Jacob Hearne would make 17 saves. While Potsdam State Lenny Perno would still the night and the hearts of many in attendance as he would make 63 saves on the evening. Gallery

Plattsburgh Sate's Trey Thomas (14) charges down the zone and rips it past the goal in traffic to give the Cardinals the 4-2 lead. It would be the start of the last weekend of regular season games from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena and the #5 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be looking to avenge one of their four losses on the season as they would host the Buffalo State Bengals and make the push for the number 2 seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Conference Tournament. The Bengals would be looking to get the sweep of the Cardinals on the season and get off to a quick start as they would score just 2:53 into the game on the Anthony Morin goal. The game would stay there till there were five minutes left in the second period when the Cardinals would get the equalizer on the Kevin Weaver Vitale powerplay goal to make it a 1-1 game. The Bengals would regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Joe Glamos powerplay goal. The lead would be short-lived though as the Cardinals would tie the game up 75 seconds later on the Jake Layni goal The Cardinals would get their first lead of the game at the 12:31 mark of the third period when Ryan Butler would score to give the Cardinals would get the lead at 3-2. Then with 3:30 left in the game, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the Trey Thomas goal. Then the closing minute of the game the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake with Ryan Butler's empty net goal. In the winning effort, Jacob Hearne would make 20 saves on the night as the Cardinals would go to 18-4-2 on the season as they head into the season finale against Fredonia State Blue Devils Saturday afternoon. New Enhland Hockey Conference: Southern Maine Huskies @ #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds February 3rd 2024

It would be a match-up inside the New England Hockey Conference as the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds would take on the Southern Maine Huskies in front of 900 passionate fans at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The home Thoroughbreds would get the opening goal of the game at the 4:42 mark of the first period when Patrick Kaeden scored at the 4:42 mark for the 1-0 lead. The Huskies would be able to get the equalizer though on the shorthand when John Hagan would light the lamp at the 8"34 mark of the period to tie the game at one and that's how the first period would end. The Thoroughbreds would be able to retake the lead at 2-1 on the Mason Beecher goal at the 5:48 mark. The lead would be short-lived as the Huskies would answer back about 90 seconds later to tie the game at two on the Jakub Suran goal. Then about three minutes later the Huskies would forge ahead and get the go-ahead goal at the 10:37 mark on the Ethan McDuffie for the 3-2 Huskies lead. The game would stay there till the 11:51 mark of the third period when Matt Sullivan would score on the Huskies powerplay to make it a 4-2 game. From there the Husky's defense would stand tall and hold on for the 4-2 upset victory over the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds. In the winning effort, the Huskies Mason Palmer would make 41 saves as they go to 8-12-3 on the season. For the Thoroughbreds Brandon Tate would make 23 saves as they fall to 16-5-3 on the season. It would be a matchup inside the top of NCAA Division III Men's Hockey at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the #4 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host long-time nonconference rival the #12 Norwich Cadets in front of 1300 passionate fans for the midweek tilt. The home Cardinals would waste little time in getting the opening goal of the game just 5:28 into the game on the Josh Belgrave goal. They would stay there till the 3:51 mark of the second period when the Cadets would get the equalizer from Owen Sclisizzi and tie the game at one. Then just about two minutes later the Cadets would forge ahead on the powerplay goal from Clark Kerner for the 2-1 lead. The Cardinals were not going to let the Cadets lead last long as they would score three minutes later and tie the game at two on the Trey Thomas goal. The game would stay there till the 11:33 mark of the third period when the teams would combine for four goals in just over six minutes of action scoring would be Aaron Catroon and Jake Lanyi for the Cardinals Johnny Johnson and Ben Van Waterschoot for the Cadets. From there they would have no more scoring in the final two minutes of regulation and the five minutes of three-on-three for overtime. As the Cardinals would get the tie on the night and go to 15-3-2 on the season as Elli Shiller would make 25 saves on the night. The #5 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would welcome the Morrisville State Mustangs to the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena for a SUNYAC Men's Hockey game as they would celebrate Burghys 43rd birthday with 1700 of his closest friends. The Mustangs would not be very good house guests as they would take the quick 1-0 lead just 4:15 into the game on the Robert Haak goal. The Cardinals wouldn't waste time in getting the equalizer as they would score at the 7:00 minute mark on the Adam Tretowicz goal and tie the game at one. Then the Cardinal offense would come alive as they would score four goals in just under four minutes to take the 5-0 lead scoring for the Cardinals would be Josh Belgrave, Adam Tretowicz (second of the night), Tio D'Addario, and Luk Jirousek. The Mustangs would answer back just 11 seconds into the second period on Trevor Neumann's goal to make it a 5-2 game. The game would stay there till the 11:49 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would regain their four-goal lead at 6-2 on the Paul Bryer goal. Then with just 18 seconds left in the period the Cardinals would score again on the Josh Belgrave goal his second of the night to make it a 7-2 game. The Cardinals would put the icing on the cake just 14 seconds into the third period when Bennett Stockdale would score and secure the 8-2 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals Jacob Hearne and Dominik Bovan would combine for 17 saves as they went to 14-3 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend as it will be the first of three straight weekends on the road as they head to Geneseo and Brockport. Gallery

The Cardinals get on the board early in the game just 5:45 into the first on the Bennett Stockdale powerplay goal to make it a 1-0 game. The Cardinals would strike again on the powerplay at the 13:37 mark of the period on the Luk Jirousek as the Cardinals go up 2-0 Then just about 90 seconds later the Cardinals would keep the machine going as Josh Belgrave would make it a 3-0 game. Then to finish off the first period of scoring Trey Thomas would score just 53 seconds later to make it a 4-0 Cardinals game. The Cardinals would come out in the second period hot and score just 1:13 in on the Ryan Hogg goal to make it a 5-0 Cardinal game. That would be all the scoring on this night as the Panthers defense would button down the hatches from there on but the Cardinals would get the 5-0 win. In the winning effort, Jacob Hearne would make 26 saves as he would get his first shutout of the season the Cardinals go to 13-2 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow to take on Williams in Massuschetts.
