The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Castleton State Spartans in the season opener. The Cardinals would jump out to the 5-3 lead after the first quarter on goals from Billy Moller, Ryan Callahan (2), Jake Carroll, and Ryan Hubbard. In the second quarter, the Cardinal offense would step up and win the quarter 7-1 on goals from Ryan Callahan (2), Ryan Hubbard (4) and Ryan Ehli for the 12-4 lead at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Spartans would do there best to make it a game and win the quarter 3-2 scoring for the Cardinals was Austin Belz and Brad Johnson and take a 14-7 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would put the finishing touches on the game with a 6-0 quarter with goals from Jake Carroll, Mike Gay, Austin Belz, Sean Alder, Logan Lamothe, and EJ Suris for the 20-7 victory. Plattsburgh State's Alex Jensen (15) collides with Castleton State's goalie on the clear attempts and scores in the open net. The #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Castleton State Spartans in a nonconference game as they would welcome back former assistant Steve Moffit. The game would remain scoreless until the last two minutes of the first when Castleton's Charles Bando would give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would answer back at 3:42 of the second period and tie the game at one on Michael Radisa's goal. The Cardinals would then take the 2-1 lead at 7:35 of the second the short-handed goal. The Cardinals would extend the lead to 3-1 on Graham Yeo's first college goal at 11:35. Then two minutes later Alex Jensen would get his second goal of the night for the 4-1 lead. Then at 6:26 of the third Michael Cassidy would get into the scoring act as the Cardinals take the 5-1 lead. Then in the final 30 seconds of game Alex Jensen would finish off the hat trick as the Cardinals cruised to the 6-1 win. The lone goal in the game would come from Cardinals Alyssa Parke at 3:49 on the second period to give the Cardinals the 1-0 win. The game would be scoreless until Matt McCleod scored 2 minutes into the second period and Castleton State would tie it up at 1 with 6 minutes left in the second to go into intermission tied at 1. Alex Jensen would give the Cardinals the lead back 2-1 5 minutes into the third. Then Alex Brenton would get the eventual game-winner 4 minutes later. For the championship of the Cardinal Classic, it was a battle of the top 5 schools as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals took on the Castleton State Spartans. This would be a very rough game right from the drop of the puck. The game would remain scoreless until the 11-minute mark of the second period when the Spartans take the 1-0. Then with 3 minutes remaining in the period, the Cardinal tied the game up on Kyle Taylor's goal. The game would stay tied until Jake Mooney scores the game-winner with 4 minutes left in the game to give the Cardinals the Cardinal Classic title. The #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals opened up the Cardinal Classic with a very impressive 8-1 victory over the Castleton State Spartans. The Cardinals would take the quick 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into the game and would not look back. They would take a 4-0 lead into the final period before doubling there score in the final period for the 8-1 victory.
