Plattsburgh State's Imani Walcott (23) banks it off the backboard for the score as part of a sixteen-point night, It would be the last game of the Cardinal Classic and between the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Castleton State Spartans in what would be the third-place game as they were both coming off losses. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would start with a 17-10 lead after the 1st quarter. However, in the second quarter, the Spartans would come charging back with a 20-12 quarter and the Spartans would have a slim 30-29 lead at the intermission. When the teas returned from the intermission break the Spartanns would use the quarter to take control of the game with a 20-9 quarter and 50-38 lead overall. In that fourth quarter, the Cardinals would do everything they could to get back in the game but all they could do was cut the deficit in half with a 21-15 quarter giving the Spartans the 65-59 victory. In the losing effort, Payton Couture would lead the Cardinals with a game-high 20 points as they go to 2-2 on the season. Potsdam State's Jakia Howard (12) with the down low for 2 points as part of a game-high 28 points. It would be the opening game of the first day of the Cardinal Classic and it would feature the Castleton State Spartans from the Little East Conference and the Potsdam State Bears from the SUNYAC. The offenses would be on display through the first quarter as the Potsdam State Bears would have a slim 21-18 lead after the first quarter. The game would stay close through the second quarter as the Spartans would win the quarter by a slim 15-13 and take the 36-31 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would stay close but the Spartans would get the quarter but close by a 19-16 score and the Bears would have the two-point lead at 52-50 as they entered the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the game would stay close but the Bears would extend the lead to six for the 79-73 win. In the winning effort for the Bears, Jakia Howard would lead the way with 28 points as the Bears will play Bates tomorrow for the Cardinal Classic title. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Eli Shiller (33) with the glove save as part of a 17 save night for the win. It would be the home opener for the #7 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would begin the 2023-24 campaign with a game against the Castleton State Spartans from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 1300 fans. The game would start off well for the home Cardinals as they would get the opening goal just 2:46 into the game on the Paul Bryer goal. The Cardinals would expand their lead just five minutes later on the Adam Tretowicz goal and take the 2-0 lead. Although just 42 seconds later the Spartans would get on the board and cut the lead in half at 2-1 on the Jackson Edwards goal. Then just about three minutes later the Spartans would tie the game up on the Josef Vyvial to make it 2-2. The game would stay there till the ten-minute mark of the second period when Lonan Bulger would score to give the Cardinals the 3-2 lead. Just two minutes later the Spartans would tie the game up again on the Andrew Stefura goal. That was the game would stay till the third period when the Cardinals would erupt for three powerplay goals from Josh Belgrave, Ryan Bonfield, and Tio D'Addario and secure the 6-3 victory. It would be a very physical game though as the teams would combine for 55 minutes in penalty minutes. In the winning effort, Eli Shiller would make 17 saves on the night as the Cardinals went to 2-0 on the season. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the 14th minute on the Kirsten Villemaire goal. The Cardinals would double up there lead at the 27th minute on the Nora Fitzgerald goal to make it a 2-0 game. From there the Cardinals head into a shutdown defense and hold onto the 2-0 game for the victory. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Castleton State Spartans in non conference action at the Plattsburgh State field house and the Cardinals would look to continue there hot start to the season. The Cardinals would take the early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of the game on John Hayes second goal of the season. Then in the 27th minute of the game the Cardinals would expand there lead to 2-0 on the goal from Cole Weiner for his first of the season and that where the game would remain for the rest of the half. When the teams returned for the second half the Cardinals would not let up as they would make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute on Dylan Shavley first of the season. Then just seven minutes later the Cardinals would put the game out of reach on the Rocky Bujaj goal for his second of the year. Then in the final five minutes of the game the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake with the Colter Cheney Seymour first of the season and secure the 5-0 win. The #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Castleton State Spartans in a nonconference game as they would welcome back former assistant Steve Moffit. The game would remain scoreless until the last two minutes of the first when Castleton's Charles Bando would give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would answer back at 3:42 of the second period and tie the game at one on Michael Radisa's goal. The Cardinals would then take the 2-1 lead at 7:35 of the second the short-handed goal. The Cardinals would extend the lead to 3-1 on Graham Yeo's first college goal at 11:35. Then two minutes later Alex Jensen would get his second goal of the night for the 4-1 lead. Then at 6:26 of the third Michael Cassidy would get into the scoring act as the Cardinals take the 5-1 lead. Then in the final 30 seconds of game Alex Jensen would finish off the hat trick as the Cardinals cruised to the 6-1 win.
