Plattsburgh State's Donald Tesoriero with the catcher saves as part of a six save night. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Castleton State Spartans in the season opener. The Cardinals would jump out to the 5-3 lead after the first quarter on goals from Billy Moller, Ryan Callahan (2), Jake Carroll, and Ryan Hubbard. In the second quarter, the Cardinal offense would step up and win the quarter 7-1 on goals from Ryan Callahan (2), Ryan Hubbard (4) and Ryan Ehli for the 12-4 lead at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Spartans would do there best to make it a game and win the quarter 3-2 scoring for the Cardinals was Austin Belz and Brad Johnson and take a 14-7 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would put the finishing touches on the game with a 6-0 quarter with goals from Jake Carroll, Mike Gay, Austin Belz, Sean Alder, Logan Lamothe, and EJ Suris for the 20-7 victory.
