Peru's Mia Marino (2) with the three from the wing It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference matchup between the host Peru Nighthawks and the visiting Ticonderoga Sentinels. The game would start off good for the home Nighthawks as they would be doubling up the Sentinels after the first quarter at 15-6. In the second quarter, the Nighthawks would continue to pull away with a 13-3 quarter and take a 28-9 lead into the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Nighthawks would keep their foot on the gas with a 15-6 quarter to extend their lead to 43-15 as they head into the fourth. In that fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would lighten up with the outcome, not in question with a 13-10 quarter, and secure the 56-25 win. Leading the way on the night would be Kortney McCarthy would be 19 points as they go to 6-5 on the season while Ticonderoga falls to 5-3 on the season. Gallery.

Saranac Lake Red Storm @ Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball January 12th 2022

Saranac Lake's Annabelle Johnson (11) crashes in and lays the layup off the window for the score. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference matchup between the host Plattsburgh Hornets and Saranac Lake Red Storm. The game would get off to a fast start as the Hornets would jump out to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornet's offense would go a little quiet as the Red Storm would win the quarter 9-6 but the Hornets would have a 26-20 lead at the break. The Hornets would find their game again when they came back with a 13-9 quarter to extend their lead to 49-29 to head to the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Red Storm would give it everything they had to make a come back with a 13-5 quarter but it would fall short as the Hornets would get the 54-42 win. In the winning effort, the Hornets go to 4-8 while the Red Storm falls to 0-8 on the season. Gallery

Beekmantown's Anthony Marion (16) with the hard hit on Northeastern Clinton's Owen Ebersol (14) that sends him into the bench. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference affair as the Beekmantown Eagles would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at the Plattsburgh State Field House. The game would start off good for the home Eagles as they would get the early lead just 2:59 into the first period on the Chase Clikey goal for the 1-0 lead. The Cougars would keep crashing the net and get the equalizer from Owen Ebersol at the 9:07 mark of the period. The Eagles would be quick to strike back and regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Nolan Latinville goal. Then as the horn was getting ready to sound the Eagles would get a goal from Dayton Rovers to take the 3-1 lead into the intermission. When the teams were back for the second period they both would have their chances and the physical play was there but no one would be able to light the lamp and it would remain 3-1. In the third period, the Eagles would put the icing on the cake with a goal at the 3:47 mark from Nolan Latinville to secure the 4-1 win. Leading the way for the Eagles in the win would be Nolan Latinville with 2 goals and an assist. Gallery

Keene Beavers @ Seton Catholic Knights Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball January 10th 2022

Seton Catholic's Allisyn Johnson (23) charges in for the off balance basket and the two points on the night. It would be a Mountain and Valley Conference game featuring the Seton Catholic Knights and the Keene Beavers from Seton Catholic. It would be a lower scoring tight game to get started as the Knights would have a 6-4 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Beaver's offense would come alive for a huge quarter at 13-4 and take a 17-10 lead into the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Knights would have some fight in them and win the quarter 11-2 and retake the lead at 21-19. In the fourth quarter, the Beaver's defense would completely shut down the Knights with a 13-0 quarter and get the come from behind win at 32-21. With the win, the Beavers go to 5-1 while the Knights fall to 4-5 on the season. Gallery

Mason Winter Classic and it would feature the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the King's Monarchs in the battle for second place in the final standings. The game would start off good for the home Cardinals as they would light the lamp just 5:36 into the game on the Thomas Maia goal for the 1-0 lead. Then with 90 seconds left in the period, the Cardinals would score again on the powerplay from Matt Araujo to make it 2-0 Cardinals. To start the second period the Cardinals would show some life and get on the board at the 2:18 mark from Aaron Frenkel to make it a 2-1 game. The Cardinals would answer back and they would authority as they get three before the end of the period to make it a 5-1 game thanks to Jack Ring and Joey Mancuso (twice). As the third period started the Monarchs would answer back to make it a three-goal game at 5-2 on Aaron Frenkel's second goal of the game at the 5:17 mark. But then here would come the Cardinals as they would storm away with three goals down the stretch from Thomas Maia (twice of the night), Christian Difelice, and Bennett Stockdale for the 8-2 victory. In the winning effort, Brandon Wells would make 22 saves as they go to 8-5-2 while Kings fall to 2-11 on the season. Gallery

NCAA Division III Men's Hockey W.B. Mason Winter Classic: Albertus Mangus Falcons Vs Kings Monarchs January 8th 2022

Albertus Magnus Logan Bateman (30) with one of his 29 saves on the night that he sends to the corner. It would be game two of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic and it would feature the Albertus Magnus Falcons and the King's Monarchs. It would be a tight evenly matched game through the first as there would be no scoring. The first goal of the game would not come until the 11:36 mark of the second period when Tyler Ignazzitto would light the lamp for the Falcons and make it a 1-0 game. Then with just about two minutes left in the period, the Falcons would strike again this time on the powerplay from Colt Corpse for a 2-0 game. Then when the teams came back for the third period the Falcons would go for the knockout as they would score just a minute into the period to make it 3-0. Although the Monarchs would show some life as Mahingan Decontie would score at the 5:26 mark of the third to make it 3-1. The Monarchs would keep fighting and make it a 3-2 game at the 9:17 mark of the third period on a powerplay goal by Jack Cooper. Then with just under five minutes left in the game, the Monarchs would complete the comeback and tie at three on the Nick Snyder. That is where the game would stay until the overtime and in that overtime, Alex Gagnon would get his second of the night and it was an important one as it would be the game-winner. In the winning effort, Logan Bateman would make 29 saves as they go to 9-6 on the season while the Monarchs fall to 2-10 on the season. Gallery

Potsdam Sandstoners Vs Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers Vs Potsdam Sandstoners North Country Shootout January 8th 2022

Potsdam's Sophie Luazon (17) with the backhand goal on the rebound. It would be the third-place game of the North Country Shootout and it would feature the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers and the Potsdam Sandstoners. The Sandstoners would get the opening goal of the game from Madison Weaver at the 10:46 nark of the period to make it 1-0. The Sandstoners would extend the lead to 2-0 on the Anna Nelson goal. When the teams came back for the second period the Sandstoners would extend their lead to 3-0 at the 3:38 mark of the period on the Rylie Bicknell goal. Then with 40 seconds left in the period, they would make it 4-0 on Isabel Boyd's goal. In the third period, the Sandstoners would put the icing on the cake as they would get a fifth goal on the Sophie Lauzon goal at the 3:49 mark. Then at the 7:07 mark of the Lakers would score from Taylor Whitson to avoid the shutout and make it a 5-1 game. Then at 10:41, the Sandstoners would put the icing on the cake with a goal. The game would start off slow as these evenly matched teams would feel each other out and there would be no scoring in the first period. In the second period, the home Cardinals would get the opening goal at the 3:18 mark from Paul Bryer for the 1-0 lead. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Falcons would tie the game at one just over 90 seconds later on the Coleton Cianci goal. Then with just over five minutes left in the period, the Falcons would take the lead 2-1 on the Tim Manning goal. Although with 51 seconds left in the second period Adam Trentowicz would score on the powerplay to tie the game two. The Cardinals would take the lead back just 90 seconds into the third period on Paul Bryer's second goal of the game to make it 3-2. The third period would start off good for the visiting Falcons as they would get two powerplay goals and an even-strength goal 115 seconds apart from Gagnon, Sam Anderson (twice) to take the 5-3 lead. Then just over the halfway mark of the third period Thomas Maia would score for the Cardinals to make it a 5-4 game. Although with just under 90 seconds left in the game the Falcons would take the 6-4 lead and win on the empty netter by Ryan Colwell. In the losing effort, Anthony Del Tuffo would make 21 saves as the Cardinals fall to 7-5-2 on the season. Next up for the Cardinal will be a matchup on January 9th against Kings while Albertus Mangus will play Kings on January 8th. Gallery.

The game would start off good for the Hornets as they would get the lone goal of the first period from Ada Johnson for the 1-0 lead. Although Kenmore/Grand Island would answer back with three goals of their own in the second period from Carissa Buyea, Isabella Jayme, and Megan Pinzel to make it a 3-1 game. Then just a minute into the third period Kenmore/Grand Island would make it 4-1 on the Emiliana Cassillo goal. Although the Hornets would show some life and make it a 4-2 game on the Amaya Abellard goal at the 9:18 marl. Although in the closing minute of the game the Kenmore/Grand Island squad would ice the game away with an empty netter on Megan Pinzel's second goal of the game to secure the 5-2 win and tournament title. Plattsburgh's Rachel Madore (22) stuffs the puck in the back of the net as part of a two-goal night. It would be a section vii game inside the Upstate New York Girl's Hockey League as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. It would take a bit but the home Hornets would get on the board first with a goal at the 6:47 mark of the first period when Amaya Abellard would light the lamp for the 1-0 lead. Then just two minutes later the Hornets would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Amanda Vaughn goal. Then with just under two minutes left in the opening period, the Hornets would take a 3-0 lead on the Rachel Madore power-play goal. When the teams came back for the second period the teams would play the period very evenly with the Hornets getting the only goal of the period in the final minute on Rachel Madore's second goal of the night to make it 4-0. In the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with a goal by Ada Johnson to secure a 5-0 win. In the winning effort, Angelica LeBraun would make 11 saves in the shutout victory as they went to 4-1-1 on the season. Gallery
