It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in a rematch of last year's Section VII Class B championship. The game would start off well for the home Hornets as they would come rolling out of the gates and have a 17-9 lead after the opening quarter of the game. In the second quarter, the Hornets would stay hot and were able to extend their lead with a 20-13 quarter to give the Hornets the 37-22 lead at the break. When the teams would return for the second half the Cougars would regroup and find their shot and make it a two-point game at the end of the third quarter at 43-41 Hornets. For the first half of the fourth quarter, the teams would go back and forth, and the game with stay within a couple of points. Then with a little under five minutes left in the game there would a scramble for the ball under the basket and the Cougars would get called for a technical foul from there the game would fall apart for the Cougars and the Hornets would pull away with an eleven point win at 66-55. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 6-11 on the season while the Cougars will fall to 11-7 as both teams start looking at the playoff stretch. Gallery

#3 Beekmantown Eagles @ #2 Malone Huskies February 7th 2022

Malone's Chanel Thompson (4) with the quick wrister on net that would be saved by Beekmantown's Kori Lamoy (29) although the Huskies would get the 4-3 overtime win. It would be the semi-finals of the Section VII Girl's Hockey inside the Upstate New York Girl's Hockey League. The game would be tight throughout the first period and the Eagles would eventually get the opening goal with under 90 seconds left in the period from Rachel Mador to make it 1-0 Eagles. The Huskies would fight back and tie the game at one on the Olivia Cook. Although just 50 seconds later the Eagles would score to regain their one-goal lead at 2-1. Then with just under five minutes left in the second period, the Huskies would tie the game again as Olivia Cook would score her second goal of the game. Although the Eagles would keep the fight up and take the lead back once again as they would score with two minutes left in the period to make it a 3-2 game. Although once again the Huskies would tie the game once again just 4:55 into the third period at three. The game would stay all the way til the fourth overtime when the Huskies would get the game-winner just shortly after a very conversational call boarding that jarred the puck free that they put in the net for the Huskies 4-3 win. With the win, the Huskies would advance to the Section VII Championship against Adirondack on February 9th. Gallery

Ticonderoga Sentinels @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 6th 2023

It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Ticonrodegoa Sentinels in boy's basketball action. The home Hornets would get off to a buzzing start as they would have a 19-2 lead after just the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Sentinels would start to find their game and they would stay with the Hornets as it would be a 14-10 quarter for the Hornets and have a 33-12 lead as they head into the break. When the teams returned for action, the Hornets would keep their foot on the gas pedal, storm with a 21-12 quarter, and extend their lead to 54-24 as they headed into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would empty the bench with the outcome of the game, not in doubt and the Sentinels would get the quarter 7-4 although the Hornets would hold on for the 57-31 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 5-11 on the season and will be back in action Wednesday as they will host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars while the Ticonderoga Sentinels fall to 2-14 on the season and will look to get back on the winning side Friday as they travel to Saranac Lake. #12 Saranac Chiefs @ Saratoga Blue Streaks February 3rd 2023

Saratoga's Daniel Klochaney (26) rifles the shot on the short side for the goal in the 4-2 win. It would be the second game of a weekend trip to the Capital District as the #12 Saranac Chiefs would this time travel to Saratoga Springs and take on the Saratoga Blue Streaks at the Vernon Arena. The game would be evenly matched through most of the first period until the Blue Streak would light the lamp with just over five minutes left to give the Blue Streaks the 1-0 lead. It would be more of the same throughout the second period until the Blue Streak would hit again this time on the powerplay and make it 2-0 on the Maddox Pemrick with just over two minutes left. The Blue Streaks wouldn't waste long in the third period in extending the lead to 3-0 on the Grady Frasier goal just 1:27 in. Although the Chiefs would answer right back and get on the board just 6 seconds later on the Evan Patrie goal to make it a 3-1 game. That wouldn't be the end of the Chiefs as they would make it a 3-2 game 2 minutes later on the Conor Graves goal. Although with just over 6 minutes left in the game, the Blue Streaks would regain their two-goal lead at 4-2 on the Daniel Klochaney goal and that's where the game would end. In the winning effort, the Blue Streaks go to 9-8-1 on the season. While the Saranac Chiefs fall to 10-4-2 on the season and will look to get back on the winning side next weekend when they travel to Rouses Point and take on the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. #12 Saranac Chiefs @ #9 Queensbury Spartans February 3rd 2023

Queensbury's Keegan Lozier (24) with the crunching hit on Saranac's Adrian Barnes (8) and sends him to the ice. It would be a nonleague game inside the top 15 in the state New York State Boy's Hockey Division 2 as the #12 Saranac Chiefs would travel down to section 2 and take on the #9 Queensbury Spartans in what might be a new york state region in the state tournament in a few weeks. The teams would be very evenly matched through the first period and there would be no scoring in the first period. It would take till the 6:14 mark of the second period when Keegan Lozier would score to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. The game would remain there til the 9:43 mark of the period when the Spartans would score again this time from Nick Ogden to give the 2-0 lead. Then with just over five minutes left in the period, the Spartans would take control of the game on the Tanner Freeman goal as the score would go to 3-0. The Chiefs would keep fighting and get on the board just three minutes into the third period on the Evan Patrie goal to keep the game alive at 3-1. The game would stay there until the final five minutes when Chiefs' Landin Duprey would get saddled with a five-minute boarding call. On the issuing powerplay, the Spartans would light the lamp three times from Ethan Kelsey Michael Deutsch, and Tyler Dufour and take the 6-1 victory. In the losing effort, the Chiefs fall to 10-4-3 on the season and will play the Saratoga Blue Streaks tomorrow while the Queensbury Spartans will go to 12-3 and will be back in action tomorrow against Bethlem. Saranac Lake Red Storm @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 1st 2023

Saranac Lake's Caleb Akey (11) takes it hard to the basket for the score as he takes it to the Hornets defender as he raises up for the score. It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake Red Storm. It would be a tight game throughout the first quarter and the Hornets would have a slim 13-12 after the first. In the second quarter, the game would still be a see-saw affair but the Hornets would win the quarter slightly at 16-12 and take the 29-24 lead into the halftime break. When the teams would return for the third the Red Storm would make the adjustments and come out rolling and win the quarter 18-12 and take the slim one-point lead into the fourth quarter at 42-41. In that fourth quarter, the Red Storm would stay hot and pull away with a 19-12 quarter to secure the 61-53 victory. In the winning effort, the Red Storm go to 10-7 on the season and will next travel to Northern Adirondack Bobcats next week as the season starts to come to a close. While the Hornets fall to 4-11 and will look to right the ship as they head to Saranac on Friday and meet up with the Chiefs. Gallery

Seton Catholic's Aiden Pearl (22) slides through the defenders and lays it off the window for the score. It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference at Seton Catholic as the Knights would be hosting the Lake Placid Blue Bombers in Boy's Basketball action. The Blue Bombers would come out hot and have the 15-12 lead on the road after the first quarter. However, the home Knights would keep fighting in the second quarter and take the slim 24-23 lead into the intermission on the strength of a 12-8 quarter. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Knights would get their shot going as they would double up the Blue Bombers with a 14-8 quarter and take a 38-31 lead into the 4th quarter. In that fourth quarter, the teams would be very evenly matched and the Knights would get the slim quarter win at 10-9 and secure the 48-40 win for the Knights. In the winning effort, the Knights go to 4-10 on the season and their next matchup will be with the Peru Knighthawks while the Lake Placid Blue Bombers will fall to 4-10 and take on Newcomb next. Saranac's Landin Duprey (16) slides it past Plattsburgh's Owen Chapple (30) for one of his three goals on the evening. It would be a contest inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference tonight as the #9 Saranac Chiefs would meet up with the Plattsburgh Hornets at the AC North Sports Center. It would take just 45 seconds for the first goal of the game as the Chief's Landin Duprey would light the lamp for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 5:40 mark of the period Nolan Miner would score to extend their lead to a 2-0 lead. Then at the 10:41 mark of the period the Chiefs would score again on Duprey's second goal of the period and take a -0 lead to end the period. When the teams came out for the second period the teams would play pretty even throughout and there would be no scoring as the Chiefs would hold onto their 3-0. The Chiefs would keep the scoring going as they would light the lamp 4:07 into the period when Zack O'Connell would score to make it a 4-0 game. The game would stay there till the ten-minute mark of the period when the Chiefs would score twice in 45 seconds from Landin Duprey (for the hat trick) and Nolan Miner (second of the night) to make it a 6-0 Chiefs lead. Then with just over three minutes left in the game, the Chiefs would end their scoring outburst when Zack O'Connell would get the second of the night for the 7-0 win. In the winning effort, the Chiefs would outshoot the Hornets 62-15 as they go to 10-2-2 on the season as the Hornets fall to 2-8 on the season. Gallery

#11 Northern Adirondack Bobcats @ #17 Seton Catholic Knights January 24th 2023

Northern Adirondack's (5) with the jump out of bounds to save the ball and keep the offenses going. It would be an interconference matchup in section vii as the Seton Catholic Knights from the Mountain Valley Conference would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats from the Champlain Valley Conference. The game would start off slow as both teams were looking to find their shot as the Bobcats would have the 7-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defenses would still be the game's name as the Knights would win the quarter with a 10-7 and take the slim 15-14 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Bobcats would find the touch with the shot but the Knights would not have the luck as the Bobcats would win the quarter 13-4 and take the 27-19 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Knights still had no luck with the basketball as the Bobcats would win the quarter 14-5 to get the 41-24 win. In the winning effort, the Bobcats would improve their record to 11-1 while the Knights would fall to 8-6 on the season. As for the Knights, they will be back in action tomorrow as they will host the Keene Beavers. Gallery

#1 Salmon River Shamrocks @ #2 Beekmantown Eagles January 23rd 2023

The Salmon River Shamrocks celebrate the game-winner in overtime to keep their perfect season intact. It would be a mid-season matchup outside the conference but o what it matchup it would be as it would pit the top 2 in new york state boy hockey #2 Beekmantown Eagles would host the #1 Salmon River Shamrocks from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of a very spirited and well-attended crowd. It wouldn't take long till we had our first goal of the game as Salmon River's (17) would light the lamp just 3:20 into the game. Although the Eagles come right back down and tie the game back up at one of Zack Lapier's goals just a minute later. Although at the thirteen-minute mark, the Shamrocks would get two quick ones just 100 seconds apart from 7 and 17 as the Shamrocks lead the game 3-1 after the first period. When the teams returned for the second the competitive spirit of the game would stay on high and at the 7:32 mark of the period Zack Lapier would score again for the Eagles to make it a 3-2 game. Although with just over two minutes left in the period would fight back to get their two-goal lead again on the Cook goal to make it 4-2 Shamrocks after the second period. The Eagles would waste little time in the third period making it a one-goal game again on the Sam Bingel just 40 seconds in to make it a 4-3 game. Then with just six minutes left in the game, the Eagles would finally get the equalizer as Lapier would get his hat trick goal and end up sending the game to overtime tie at four. In the extra frame, there would be a penalty called on Beekmantown's Sam Bingel and with the powerplay, the Shamrocks would take care of business on the Cook goal. On this night the #1 team in the state the Salmon River Shamrocks would get the win at 5-4 to stay perfect on the season the Eagles would suffer their first setback of the year and go to 9-1-1 on the season and will look to right the ship on January 27th against the Canton Bears.
