It would be the finals of the 2024 Comfort Inn Winter Classic and it would see the host #5 Plattsburgh State Cardinals take on the Albertus Magnus Falcons for a shot at the title in front of 1,300 fans at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The game would remain scoreless through most of the first period when Colin Callahan would score at the 13:09 mark to make it a 1-0 Cardinals game. The Falcons would answer right back about 84 seconds later on the Sam Anderson powerplay goal and tie the game at one. However, the tie would be short-lived as the Cardinals would regain the one-goal lead 1:07 later on Colin Callahan's second goal of the period. The Cardinals would extend their lead to 3-1 just 1:26 into the second period on the Luk Jirousek goal. The Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-1 on the Afam Tretowicz goal at the 14:16 mark of the second period. The game would stay there till the 6:31 mark of the third period on the Thomas Maia goal and make it a 5-1 game. The Falcons would keep fighting and they would make a 5-2 game at the 11:12 mark of the period on Sam Anderson's second goal of the game. The Raiders would get one more late in the game from JJ Berdal. However, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would get the 5-3 win to be crowned the 2024 Winter Classic champion behind Eli Shiller's 16-save performance. The Cardinals would waste no time as they would get the quick 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the game on the Colin Callanan goal. The game would stay there till the 9:47 mark of the period when the Raiders would tie the game on the powerplay on their first shot of the game from Cormac Hayes. The Cardinals would have an answer though and retake the lead at 2-1 about 3:30 later Simon Singher's first NCAA goal made it 2-1 Cardinals. The game would stay there through the second period as there was no scoring. The Cardinals would fight and get the two-goal lead on the goal by Brannon Butler goal to take the 3-1 lead at the 8:04 mark. In the closing stages of the period the Cardinals would at the empty netter on the Ryan Butler goal to secure the 4-1 win. In the winning effort, Eli Shiller would make 18 saves as the Cardinals go to 11-2 on the season and will play the Albertus Magnus for the Cardinal Classic title tomorrow. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are named the 2023 Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout champion for the second year in a row and seventh overall. It would be time for the championship of the Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout and it would be a rematch of last year's title game this time though at Plattsburgh State as the #11 Norwich Cadets would take on the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals in front of 1400 fans. It would take until the second period before we would get the opening goal of the game when Kevin Weaver Vitale would break the ice and get a goal at the 8:25 mark of the second period to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The one-goal game would be short-lived as the Cardinals would expand the to 2-0 27 seconds later on the power play goal from Tio D'Addario. The Cadets would come back about six minutes later and make it a one-goal game again on the Pual Schmid goal. From there the Cardinal defense would do the rest as there would be no scoring the rest of the night to give the Cardinals the 2-1 victory and a second straight Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout championship as they would stay undefeated on the season at 8-0. It would be the second semi-final of the Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout between St. Olaf Oles and the host #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as the winner will get the #11 Norwich Cadets in the title game tomorrow evening in front of nearly 1,500 fans. It would take till just about four minutes left in the open period when the Cardinals got on the board on the powerplay goal on the deflection by Bennett Stockdale for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till there was just about five minutes in the second period when Bennett Stockdale would once again light the lamp to give the Cardinals the 2-0 lead. The Oles would keep fighting and the game would get very physical at times with many hard hits throughout. The Oles would make it a one-goal game at 2-1 with the extra attacker on the Tyler Cooper. Although the Cardinals would clamp down for the last 90 seconds and hold on for the 2-1 win. In the winning effort, Eli Shiller would make 19 saves as the Cardinals get the win to stay perfect on the season at 7-0 and will take on the #11 Norwich Cadets in the title game while the St. Olaf Oles will take on the Middlebury Panthers for third place. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would get their home portion of their season open tonight as they would take on the Cobleskill State Tigers in nonleague action. The game would not start off well for the home Cardinals as the Tigers would jump out to a 37-23 lead by the end of the half. Then in the second half, they would. With eight minutes left in the game, the Tigers would have a 13-point lead and look like they would have the game in hand but the Cardinals would come charging back on a 28-12 run and get the 73-69 victory. With the win the Cardinals would get their first win of the season and go to 1-3 and Kevin Tabb would lead the way seventeen points.
