The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are named the 2023 Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout champion for the second year in a row and seventh overall. It would be time for the championship of the Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout and it would be a rematch of last year's title game this time though at Plattsburgh State as the #11 Norwich Cadets would take on the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals in front of 1400 fans. It would take until the second period before we would get the opening goal of the game when Kevin Weaver Vitale would break the ice and get a goal at the 8:25 mark of the second period to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. The one-goal game would be short-lived as the Cardinals would expand the to 2-0 27 seconds later on the power play goal from Tio D'Addario. The Cadets would come back about six minutes later and make it a one-goal game again on the Pual Schmid goal. From there the Cardinal defense would do the rest as there would be no scoring the rest of the night to give the Cardinals the 2-1 victory and a second straight Layer Eight Great Northern Shootout championship as they would stay undefeated on the season at 8-0.
