Boquet Valley's Ella Lobdell (15) goes up for the layup and avoids the outreached hand of Peru's defender for the score. It would be the last game of the opening day of the third annual Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and it would feature the Boquet Valley Griffins and the Peru Nigthawks in another classic Champlain Valley/Mountain Valley classic. The Nighthawks would get off to a soaring start in the game and have an 18-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would play a more evenly matched eight minutes with the Nighthawks having a slim 11-8 quarter and taking a 29-13 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the second half the Nighthawks would have shutdown defense and win the quarter 15-1 and take a 44-14 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play a little more evenly but the Nighthawks would still get the 15-11 quarter and secure the 59-25 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks would even up their record on the season at 4-4 and will play Malone Huskies in the second game of the classic while Boquet Valley falls to 4-4 and will meet up with the Saranac Spartans. Saranac's Brenna Duccatte (14) with the three from the wing as part of a game-high 31-point showing. It would be the second game of the day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and we would have the Malone Huskies and Saranac Spartand to tip-off. The Spartans would get off to a hot start against the Malone Huskies with a 21-9 opening quarter. In the second quarter, the Huskies would do their best to not let the lead expand as it would be a 15-11 quarter for the Spartans and take a 36-20 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third quarter though the Spartans would put the clamps on the Huskies and take control of the game with an 18-6 quarter and have a 54-26 lead headed into the fourth quarter. Where the teams would have an even quarter at ten a piece but the Spartans would get the convincing 64-36 victory. In the winning effort, Breena Ducatte would lead the way with 31 points as the Spartans go to 4-1 on the season and will face the Boquet Valley Griffins on the second day of the tournament while the Malone Huskies fall to 2-1 on the season and will get the Peru Nighthawks. Platsburgh's Bailey Hewson (10) with the block from behind on Beekmantown's Grace McCasland (3) as she broke in for the layup. It would be the classic crosstown rivalry tonight in section VII girl's basketball as the Plattsburgh Hornets would be hosting the Beekmantown Eagles in an early season match-up. The game would be tight and low-scoring through the first quarter as it would be tied at seven. In the second quarter, the teams would start to find their shot and the scoring would show it as the Eagles would have an 18-10 quarter and take a 25-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Eagles would stay hot and take the third quarter 14-9 to take a 39-26 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would go into defensive mode and protect their lead as the Hornets win the quarter 10-9. However, the Eagles would hold on and get the win in the crosstown match 48-36. In the winning effort, the Eagles would even up their record at 2-2 on the season as they head into their next contest on the 19th against Northeastern Clinton. As for the Hornets, they will fall to 1-2 on season and they will be right back at it on Saturday in a nonleague match against the Chateaugay Bulldogs. Gallery

Schroon Lake's (4) rises up on the layup early in the game to get the Wildcats on the board. It would be a match-up inside the Mountain Valley Conference of Section VII as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Schroon Lake Wildcats in Girl's Basketball. It would be a tight and low scoring through the first quarter as the Knights would hold the slim 6-5 lead after the first 8 minutes of the game. In the second quarter, we would have a complete repeat of the first quarter as the Knights would once again lead the quarter 6-5 and then take the slim 12-10 lead into the intermission break. When the teams returned for the third quarter after the break the Knights would bring their offense with them and win the quarter 14-6 as they got hot and would have a 26-16 lead heading into the final quarter. In that final quarter the Wildcats would do everything they could try to get back in the game and their defense would shut out the Knights in the quarter but the Wildcats could only get eight points and the Knights would hold on for the 26-24. In the winning effort, the Knights would get back to 500 on the season at 2-2 as they head into their game next week with Chazy. The Schroon Lake Wildcats fall to 1-2 on the season as they will play Boquet Valley in their next game on Friday night. Gallery

Northeastern Clinton's Desiree Dubois (23) with the runner along the baseline for the score as part of the team's high performance. It would be the first round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and it would be a matchup inside the top ten teams as the #7 Northeastern Clinton Cougars would take on the #3 Greenwich Witches for the right to head to the quarterfinals from Clinton Community College. The game would start off great for the #3 Greenwich Witches as they would race out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Cougars would dust off the early game nerves and fight back into the game with a 15-4 quarter to trail by just 2 at the break 21-19. When the teams returned for the second half the Witches would find would get back on track and would expand their lead to ten points with a 19-11 quarter for the 40-30 lead as they enter the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Witches would be able to keep a spell on the Cougars with a 9-4 quarter for the 49-34 victory. With the win, the #3 Greenwich Witches would advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament and have a match-up with the #13 Canton Golden Bears with a ticket to the final four on the line. Gallery
