Plattsburgh State's Travis Mauro (4) battles for the face-off a win at centerfield. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the R.P.I. Engineers in nonleague action the first quarter the Engineers would get the only two goals for the 2-0 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter the offense would come alive for the Cardinals as they would score four goals from Billy Moller (2), Kevin Litchauer and Ryan Hubbard. Although the Engineers would also get two goals and the game would be tied at 4-4 as the teams went into halftime. In the third quarter the Cardinals would get outscored 3-1 to make it 7-5 with the lone Cardinal goal coming from Brad Johnston. In the fourth quarter the Engineers would put the icing on the cake as they outscore the Cardinals 4-1 with the Cardinal goal coming from Ryan Hubbard as the Cardinals fall 11-6. In the losing effort, the Cardinals would fall to 1-6 on the season. Gallery

NCAA Quarterfinals: #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs #4 Middlebury Panthers March 10th 2018

Plattsburgh State's Erin McCardle (4) with the tip in at the front of the net for the goal. The #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host longtime rival #4 Middlebury Panthers in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The game would remain scoreless until the 14:34 mark of the second period when Erin McCardle would get the tip-in goal for the 1-0 Cardinals lead. Although just over three minutes later the Panthers would tie the game up on the power-play goal. The Cardinals would regain the lead at the 6:58 mark of the third period on the Ashley Songin scramble in front for the 2-1 lead. Then in the final minute of the game the Cardinals would ice it away on Mackenzie Millen's empty netter. In the winning effort, the Cardinals advance to Frozen Four and Kassi Abbott gets 26 saves. #1 Moriah Vikings Vs #10 Whitehall Railroaders High School Boy's Basketball March 10th 2018 New York State Class D Quarterfinals

Moriah's Braden Swan (24) with the layup off the window on a break away for two of his 13 points. The #1 Moriah Vikings would square off with the #10 Whitehall Railroaders in the New York State Class D Quarterfinals. The game would be close to starting out as the Moriah Vikings would have the slim 16-13 lead over the Railroaders after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the game would still be tight although the Vikings would extend there lead with a 14-12 quarter and take a 30-25 lead at intermission. When the teams came back from the break they would be even through the third quarter at 18 and the Vikings would take the 48-43 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter is when the Vikings would pull away and put the game out of reach would a 26-18 quarter and secure the 74-61 victory. In the winning effort, Dylan Trombley would lead the way with 32 points as the Vikings head back to the state final four. Gallery

Peru Indians Vs Canton Golden Bears High School Boy's Basketball March 8th 2018 New York State Class B Quarterfinals

Peru's Jake Casey (11) among the bigs with the shot over the defender. The Peru Indians would host the Canton Golden Bears in the First Round of the New York State Class B Playoffs. The Golden Bears would jump out to a quick 15-8 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Golden Bears would expand on the lead with 16-4 quarters and have a 31-12 lead at intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the Indians would regroup but the Golden Bears would still be too much and win the quarter 14-10 and take a 45-22 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Golden Bears would let off the throttle and cruise as the Indians win the quarter 11-7 although the Golden Bears would win the game 54-33. With the lose the Peru Indians season would come to end. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Jonathan Patron (5) with the hook shot over the defender as part of his game-high 39 points. It would be the second round of the NCAA Tournament and the #16 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Union Dutchmen. This would be another game that would be tight for the most part and actually be tied at 41 at intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the Cardinals would prove to be too much as they would win the half 46-34 and take the 87-75 victory. In the winning effort, Jonathan Patron would lead the way with 39 points as the Cardinals advance to the sweet 16 next weekend. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Abby Brush (24) roofs the goal on the two on one breakaway goal. The #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would the #3 Oswego State Lakers in the first-ever NEWHL championship. The Cardinals would waste little time in showing that they wanted the title as they would score three goals in the first from Courtney Moriarty, Kayla Meneghain and Abby Brush. In the second period, it would be more of the same as they would score three more from Courtney Moriarty, Mackenize Millen and Kayla Meneghain for the 6-0 lead. In the third period the Cardinals would back off the throttle and cruise to the 6-0 victory. In the winning effort, Brooke Wolejko would 23 saves for the shutout. As the Cardinals would get the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

#1 Moriah Vikings Vs #2 Crown Point Panthers Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball D Finals March 3rd 2018

The #1 Moriah Vikings would square off with the #2 Crown Point Panthers for the Section VII Class D Championship. The Vikings would cruise out to the early lead at 18-9 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, it would be more of the same as they win the quarter 18-17 to have a 36-26 lead at intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter 19-18 to have the 57-44 lead headed to the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings would pull away and get the easy win with a 23-10 quarter and secure the 80-54 victory. The Sentinels would race out to an early lead at 16-7 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, they would increase the lead with a 16-10 quarter for a 32-17 lead at the break. When the teams came back for the third quarter they would extend the lead with a 9-6 quarter for 41-23 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats would do there best to get back in it winning the quarter 15-11. Although it wouldn't be enough as the Sentinels would get the 52-41 victory and advance to the New York State Tournament. Gallery

Peru's Hunter Caron (5) with three from the corner over the outreached defender. The #1 Plattsburgh Hornets would take one the #3 Peru Indians for the Section VII Class B Championship. This would be a very tight game from start to finish and low scoring they would be tied at nine after the first quarter. In the second quarters the Indians would pull ahead with a 9-3 quarter for the 18-12 lead at intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Hornets would fight to get back in the game winning the quarter 10-8 Indians would still lead 26-22 into the fourth quarter. In the fourth the Hornets would not give in and even take the lead with under a minute left just for the Indians to take the lead back and the Indians would get the 32-38 victory. With the win the Peru Indians advance to the New York State Tournament. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Meghan Krause (47) puts in the rebound over the down and out the goalie. The #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #4 Potsdam State Bears in the NEWHL semi-finals. The Cardinals would get the lone goal of the first period from Abby Brush at the 9:30 mark. In the second period, the Cardinals would score three times from Kayla Menneghain, Courtney Moriarty and Meghan Krause along with a lone Bears goal for a 4-1 Cardinals lead after the second period. In the third period, the Cardinals would add two more from Melissa Sheeran and Mackenzie Millen to secure the 6-1 victory. In the winning effort, Kassi Abbott would make 17 saves as the Cardinals advance to the conference finals against Oswego State next weekend. Gallery
