It would be the home opener for the 2025 Plattsburgh State Women's Lacrosse team as they would host the Castleton State Spartans in nonconference action. The home Cardinals would get off to a good start as they would have the 7-3 lead after the first quarter as Leah Klotz (three), Rachel Lamar, Nicole Resnick, Cynthia Barnosky, and Maddy Garcia would score for the Cardinals. In the second quarter, it would stay the same for the Cardinals as they would have another 7-3 quarter on goals from Tabor Iohseriio, Leah Klotz (twice), Caitlin Nash, Maddy Garcia (twice), and Ashley O'Hara as they take the 14-6 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarters, the Spartans would make their best stand with a 4-3 quarter scoring for the Cardinals, which would be Alex LaDue (twice) and Cynthia Barnosky for the 17-9 Cardinals lead. It would be the second day of the Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic, and the opening game would be a matchup between Little East Conference and SUYAC foes as the Potsdam Stae Bears would take on the Castleton State Spartans. The game would start low scoring as they were feeling each other out, as the Bears would have a slim 10-8 lead after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, the offenses for both teams would start to get in a rhyme in the early season contest as the Bears would win the quarter 20-12 and take the 30-20. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Bears would stay hot and win the quarter 16-11 and take the 46-31 lead into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play even throughout, and the Spartans would have the slim win of 14-13, but it would not be enough as the Bears would get the 59-45 victories. In the winning effort for the Bears, Xy'el Bradford would lead the way with 19 points as they went to 2-2 on the season. Plattsburgh State's Imani Walcott (23) banks it off the backboard for the score as part of a sixteen-point night, It would be the last game of the Cardinal Classic and between the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Castleton State Spartans in what would be the third-place game as they were both coming off losses. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would start with a 17-10 lead after the 1st quarter. However, in the second quarter, the Spartans would come charging back with a 20-12 quarter and the Spartans would have a slim 30-29 lead at the intermission. When the teas returned from the intermission break the Spartanns would use the quarter to take control of the game with a 20-9 quarter and 50-38 lead overall. In that fourth quarter, the Cardinals would do everything they could to get back in the game but all they could do was cut the deficit in half with a 21-15 quarter giving the Spartans the 65-59 victory. In the losing effort, Payton Couture would lead the Cardinals with a game-high 20 points as they go to 2-2 on the season. It would be the opening game of the first day of the Cardinal Classic and it would feature the Castleton State Spartans from the Little East Conference and the Potsdam State Bears from the SUNYAC. The offenses would be on display through the first quarter as the Potsdam State Bears would have a slim 21-18 lead after the first quarter. The game would stay close through the second quarter as the Spartans would win the quarter by a slim 15-13 and take the 36-31 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would stay close but the Spartans would get the quarter but close by a 19-16 score and the Bears would have the two-point lead at 52-50 as they entered the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the game would stay close but the Bears would extend the lead to six for the 79-73 win. In the winning effort for the Bears, Jakia Howard would lead the way with 28 points as the Bears will play Bates tomorrow for the Cardinal Classic title. Gallery
