It would be the opening game of the 2nd day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and it would feature the Boquet Valley Griffins and the Peru Nighthawks in Girl's Basketball action. It would be a tight game through the first quarter as the Griffins would have a slim 9-8 lead. In the second quarter, the defenses would stay tall and the low scoring would continue with a Griffins 8-5 quarter and have a 17-13 lead as they went to the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Griffins would their offense and go on a surge for the quarter with a 16-6 and take a 33-19 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would do their best to get back in the game but it would come up short with a 13-11 quarter as the Griffins would get the 44-32 victory. Clinton Community College Holiday Classic Girl's Basketball Saranac Chiefs Vs Seton Catholic Knights December 28th 2022

It would be the third game on the day of the second day of action at the 2022 Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and as the Saranac Chiefs and Seton Catholic Knights would meet up. The game would start off well for the Chiefs as they would have a 10-4 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Chiefs would step up their offense with a 15-3 quarter and take a 25-7 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be more of the same as the Chiefs would have an 18-5 quarter and take a 43-12 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter with the outcome of the game already determined the Griffins would win the quarter 7-6 although the Chiefs would hold on for the 49-19 victory. With the win, the Saranac Chiefs would win the Girls' portion of the Holiday Classic and move their record to 6-1 on the season as the Knights fall to 2-5 on the season. Gallery

Boquet Valley's Ella Lobdell (15) drives to the basket with the Saranac defender tight to the hip as she takes the baseline. It would be the second game of the first day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic. It would feature a team from the Champlain Valley and one from the Mountain Valley inside section vii as the Saranac Chiefs would meet up with the Boquet Valley Griffins. The game would start off well for the Chiefs as they would jump out to the 12-4 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Chiefs would start to pull away in the game with a 26-8 quarter and take a 38-12 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Griffins would have no answer for the Chiefs as the Chiefs would win the half 37-18 and hold on for the 75-30 victory. In the winning effort, the Chiefs would go to 5-0 on the season and take on the Seton Catholic Knights tomorrow (December 28th) as they will go for the crown of the 2022 Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and the Boquet Valley Griffins fall to 5-3 season. Peru's Reese Duprey (5) drives along the baseline and lays it off the window to keep her team in the game early. It would be the last game of the day on the opening night of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic as it would pit the Peru Nighthawks and Seton Catholic Knights. It would be an even match through although on the low-scoring end to the point where the Nighthawks would lead 5-4 after the first quarter. Although in the second quarter the Knights would find their shooting rhyme and have a 13-4 quarter to take the 17-9 lead into the locker room. When the teams came out of the locker room the Nighthawks would flip the script with an 11-2 quarter into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would need some last-second magic to keep the game alive as they would score in the last seconds of the game to force overtime tied at 30. In the overtime frame, the Nighthawks would find their offense and pull away at the end with a 12-6 quarter to secure the 42-36 victory. In the winning effort, the Peru Nighthawks will have a shot to be crowned the 2022 Holiday Classic champion as they will take on the Boquet Valley Griffins as they go to 3-2 on the season and the Knights fall to 2-4 on the season. It would be the last game of the opening day of the third annual Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and it would feature the Boquet Valley Griffins and the Peru Nigthawks in another classic Champlain Valley/Mountain Valley classic. The Nighthawks would get off to a soaring start in the game and have an 18-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would play a more evenly matched eight minutes with the Nighthawks having a slim 11-8 quarter and taking a 29-13 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the second half the Nighthawks would have shutdown defense and win the quarter 15-1 and take a 44-14 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play a little more evenly but the Nighthawks would still get the 15-11 quarter and secure the 59-25 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks would even up their record on the season at 4-4 and will play Malone Huskies in the second game of the classic while Boquet Valley falls to 4-4 and will meet up with the Saranac Spartans. Saranac's Brenna Duccatte (14) with the three from the wing as part of a game-high 31-point showing. It would be the second game of the day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and we would have the Malone Huskies and Saranac Spartand to tip-off. The Spartans would get off to a hot start against the Malone Huskies with a 21-9 opening quarter. In the second quarter, the Huskies would do their best to not let the lead expand as it would be a 15-11 quarter for the Spartans and take a 36-20 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third quarter though the Spartans would put the clamps on the Huskies and take control of the game with an 18-6 quarter and have a 54-26 lead headed into the fourth quarter. Where the teams would have an even quarter at ten a piece but the Spartans would get the convincing 64-36 victory. In the winning effort, Breena Ducatte would lead the way with 31 points as the Spartans go to 4-1 on the season and will face the Boquet Valley Griffins on the second day of the tournament while the Malone Huskies fall to 2-1 on the season and will get the Peru Nighthawks. Schroon Lake's (21) throws it up and lays it off the window for the score as Seton Catholic's Chole Lawliss (21) trails the play. It would be a contest inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Schroon Lake Wildcats in Girl's Basketball action. It would be a very physical game from the opening tip, and the Wildcats would have a slim 14-13 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defenses would regain supreme as the teams would combine for nine points in the quarter and the game would go into the intermission tie at 18. When the teams returned for the second half the Knights would bring their offense to the court and take control of the game with a 10-4 quarter and take the 28-22 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Wildcats would give it their best to get the game back in favor although they would come up short with a 12-8 quarter to give the Seton Catholic Knights the win at 36-34. NYSPHSAA Girl's Basketball Class B Regionals #2 Schalmont Sabres Vs #6 Saranac Chiefs March 12th 2022

It would be the #2 Schalmont Sabres taking on the #6 Saranac Chiefs in the NYSPHSAA Class B Girl's Basketball Northern Regional Finals. The game would start off low-scoring but tight as they would be tied at six after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the #2 Sabres would go on a tear and open the game up with an 18-3 quarter and take a 24-9 into the locker room. When the teams came back for the third quarter the #6 Chiefs would try and have an answer for the Sabres as they would win the quarter by a slim 16-13 but still trail in the game at 37-25. In the fourth quarter, the Sabres would leave little hope of a Chiefs comeback with a 17-5 quarter and a Sabres 54-30 win. NYSPHSAA Girl's Basketball Class D Regionals #3 Hartford Tanagers Vs #6 Boquet Valley Griffins March 12th 2022

Hartford's Isabella French (11) splits the defenders and lays it off the window for the score. It would be the NYSPHSAA Class D Girl's Basketball regionals finals that would take place between the #3 Hartford Tanagers and the #6 Boquet Valley Griffins from Clinton Community College. The #3 Tanagers would get off to a good start and take an 18-12 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Tanagers would start to pull away from the Griffins with a 15-6 quarter and take a sizeable lead of 33-18 in the intermission. When the teams came back for the second half and third quarter the Griffins would start to find their game and would cut into the deficit with a 17-12 quarter and trail 45-35 as they head into the fourth quarter. In that fourth, it would not be without drama as the Griffins would get as close as four points but just not have the firepower down the stretch and have a 16-12 quarter and fall short 57-51. With the win, the Hartford Tanagers would punch their ticket to the NYSPHSAA Class D Girls Basketball final four next weekend at Hudson Valley Community College and the Boquet Valley Griffins season comes to an end with an 18-6 season and a top ten ranking in the state. It would be the first game of the championship Saturday and the #2 Boquet Valley Griffins would battle with the #1 Schroon Lake Wildcats for the right to go to the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament. The Griffins would show to play and play they would as they would jump out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Griffins would keep their top-notch defense up with a 13-4 quarter and have big 24-6 lead at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the rest would not hurt the Griffins as they would have their best output with an 18-9 quarter and take a 42-15 into the fourth. In that fourth quarter the Griffins would back off and course to the 14-15 quarter and take the 56-30 victory and the crown of the 2022 Section VII Class D champions and the Schroon Lake season comes to end at 15-5. Next up for the Boquet Valley Griffins would be the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament and quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 12th. Gallery

Northeastern Clinton's Bailee LaFountain (10) drives the baseline for the score on the Chiefs defender. It would be the finals of the Section VII Class B Girls Basketball between the #1 Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the #2 Saranac Chiefs. The Cougars would start off hot and quick with a 12-7 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the game would be played more evenly with a 10-9 cougars quarter and take a 22-16 lead into the break. When the teams came back for the third quarter the break would do the Chiefs go as they came back energized with a 10-5 quarter and trail by just one at 27-26 as they entered the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, both teams would have their best offensive output of the game as the Chiefs win the quarter 16-11 and get the come from behind win at 42-38. With the win, the Chiefs advance to the NYSPHSAA Class B Girls Tournament and will play the quarterfinals on March 12th at Clinton Community College as the Northeastern Clinton Cougars season comes to an end at 18-3. Northern Adirondack's Rhylee Poupure (11) with the three from the wing to keep the Bobcats hot. It would be the first championship of championship weekend as the #1 Northern Adirondack Bobcats would do battle with the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots for the Section VII Class C Championship. The first quarter would be very low scoring as there seemed like there was a lid on the basket as the Bobcats would have a low scoring 6-2 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Bobcats would start to find a little easier as they would win the quarter 11-5 and take a 17-7 lead into the intermission. The break would do the Patriots will as they would come back with a good offense output and a 14-11 quarter but would trail in the game 25-21. In the fourth quarter, the Patriots would do their best to cut into the lead but the deficit from the second quarter would be too much as they would win the quarter 15-14 although the Bobcats would hold on for the 42-36 victory. In the winning effort, the Northern Adirondack Bobcats advance to the NYSPHSAA Class C Girl's Tournament and will play Madrid-Waddington on March 9th at SUNY Canton as the Ausable Valley Patriots season come to end at 14-5. It would be the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class B Semi-finals as the #1 Saranac Chiefs would host the #4 Beekmantown Eagles for the right to play in the finals next Saturday, March 5th at Clinton Community College. The game would start off good for the top-seeded Chiefs as they would have the 16-9 lead after the first quarter. The Chiefs would continue to pull away through the second quarter but the Eagles would do their best to keep it close with a 10-6 Chiefs quarter and 26-15 lead at the break. When the teams would come back for the third quarter the Eagles would come soaring back with a 25-16 quarter making it a slim 42-40 lead for the Chiefs as they headed into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Chiefs shut down defense would return with a 17-4 quarter and end up cruising to the 59-44 win. In the winning effort, they will advance to the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference championship march at Clinton Community College on March 5th against Northeastern Clinton Cougars. Gallery

Plattsburgh High School freshman Bailey Hewson attempts to cut into the middle through the defense of Northeastern Clinton's senior Elisabeth Prairie and sophomore Desiree Dubois. Northeastern Clinton rode a strong second and third quarter performance to a 49-29 victory over Plattsburgh High School Friday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.
Both teams got off to a slow start, with neither scoring before the midpoint of the opening quarter. The Hornets got on the board first with a pair of free throws from junior Calli Fitzwater, but it was the Cougars who ended the opening frame with a 9-5 lead.
Northeastern Clinton pulled away in the second, led by a nine-point quarter for sophomore Desiree Dubois.
The score at the halftime break saw the Cougars with a 21-9 lead. Plattsburgh junior Cora Long put up nine points of her own in the third quarter, but the Hornets were never able to pull back the Cougars' lead.
Dubois led Northeastern Clinton's offense with 20 points, ahead of 13 points from sophomore Bailee Lafountain. Long's 16 points led the Hornets in the loss, followed by Fitzwater with 6 points.
Both Dubois and Long knocked down four shots each from the three-point arc. Gallery

The game would start off great for the visiting Eagles as they would have shutout first quarter at 8-0 Eagles. In the second quarter, it would be more of the same as the Eagles did their best to keep the shutout and have an impressive 16-2 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter from the break they would bring their offensive's as the Eagles would win the quarter and take a 28-12 lead into the fourth and final quarter. It would be an interconference game this even as the Schroon Lake Wildcats from the Mountain Valley Conference would travel to Plattsburgh and take on the Hornets from the Champlain Valley Conference. The game would start off great for the road Wildcats as they would jump out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would start to get their legs and shut down the Wildcats with an 8-3 quarter although they would still trail 18-13 at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the teams would be fairly evenly matched as the Hornets would win slightly 13-11 with the Wildcats still leading 29-27 as they headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would start to run out of gas and the wildcats would get 14-9 quarter and a 43-36 victory. It would be a matchup between the Champlain and Mountain Valley as the Peru Nighthawks would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats. The game would not be going that well for the home Nighthawks as they would be down 23-9 at the break. In the second half, they wouldn't give although the Bobcats would be too much for them on this day as they win the half 27-15 and secure the 50-24 victory and Alexis Belrose would lead the way with 14 points on the night.
