It would only be the second week of the high school football season but it would be a big match-up as the Beekmantown Eagles would host long-time rival the Peru Nighthawks for early season bragging rights. The Eagles would get on the board first in the early stages of the first quarter with a field goal and take a 3-0 lead. However, the Nighthawks would answer back as time would expire in the first quarter on a 75-yard run by Sawyer Schlitt and take the 7-3 lead. Halfway through the second quarter the Eagles would soar and retake the lead at 10-7 on a 80-yard pass to Zack Lapier for the score. Although with just under 2 minutes left in the half, the Nighthawks and Sawyer Schlitt would strike again for his second score of the game and take the 13-10 lead at the intermission. The Eagles would come out flying in the third quarter as Nathan Parliament would score on a fifteen-yard run and retake the lead at 17-10. However, from there the Nighthawks would take control of the game as Sawyer Schlitt would score two more times and take a 27-17 lead after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would put an end to the rivalry game on this night when Landon Duprey would have a pick 6 for 85 yards and secure the 33-17 win. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks go to 2-0 while the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season. The Nighthawks will look to see if they stay undefeated next week as they host the Plattsburgh Hornets while the Eagles will look to get their first win of the season as they will travel to Moriah. Peru's Sawyer Schlitt (33) is breaking tackles as he comes around the corner as part of a 4-score game. Peru's Luaren Prescott (5) with the tag on Plattsburgh's Hornets would-be base stealer. It would be the semi-finals of the Class B Champlain Valley Athletic Conference playoffs and the #1 Plattsburgh Hornets would host rival #4 Peru Nighthawks at the Plattsburgh Athletic Complex. With the winner meeting the winner of the other semi-final the Saranac Chiefs and the Saranac Lake Red Storm at Plattsburgh State Cardinal Park on Thursday. The game would remain scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Nighthawks would erupt for a 3-0 lead by Gabby Cunningham's 2 rbi double. In the fifth inning, the Nighthawks would get a tac-on round on the sacrifice fly by Steph Gappner for the 4-0 lead. Although the Hornets would not go quietly as they would try to hold the home field they would answer back in the sixth inning with a pair of runs lead by rbi hits by Duquette and Miller to make it a 4-2 game. The Hornets would try and tie the game up in the seventh but it would fall short and the Peru Nighthawks would get the upset win to advance to Section VII Class B Finals against the Saranac Chiefs. In the winning effort, Zoey Malcolm would go the complete game giving up 2 runs on three hits while striking out eight to get the win. Gallery

Plattsburgh's (10) dives for the loose ball to keep the play alive before they head out of bounds. It would be the rivalry matchup and senior night at Plattsburgh High as they would host the Peru Nighthawks in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action. The game would start off slow as there was no scoring in the game for almost the first three minutes of the game but when the scoring came the Hornets would shootout to a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would have better luck at the rim throughout, though it would be another 15-11 quarter for the Hornets to give them a 30-22 lead as they went into the locker room. When the teams returned for the third quarter it was a defensive quarter with the Nighthawks winning the low-scoring quarter by the slimness of margins at 7-6 but the Hornets would have the 36-29 lead as they enter the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, both offenses would come to play as it would be a 15-13 quarter for the Hornets and they would get the win 51-41. With the win the Hornets will go to 11-8 on the season and will play the Northern Adirondack Bobcats on February 16th will the Nighthawks will fall to 8-10 on the season as they head into their matchup against Northeastern Clinton. It would be the classic rivalry inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Peru Nighthawks in Boy's Basketball action. Both teams were looking for their first win of the season inside the conference didn't make the competition any less exciting. It would start off great for the home Hornets as their offense was firing on all cylinders and would have a 24-10 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would be more equal although the Hornets would still be able to extend their lead with a 13-9 quarter and take a 37-19 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the offense for the Hornets would stay hot as they would have a 19-11 quarter and take the commanding lead into the 4th quarter at 56-30. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would take their foot off the gas as they would finish out the game with an 11-9 quarter for the Nighthawks but the Hornets would have a comfortable lead and get the 65-41 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets go to 3-6 on the season as they travel to Ausable Valley on Friday as the Nighthawks fall to 1-9 on the season. Gallery
