Peru's Gabby Cunningham (26) uses the body to make the catch on the hot smash to third for the out. It would be the semi-finals of the Class B Champlain Valley Athletic Conference playoffs and the #1 Plattsburgh Hornets would host rival #4 Peru Nighthawks at the Plattsburgh Athletic Complex. With the winner meeting the winner of the other semi-final the Saranac Chiefs and the Saranac Lake Red Storm at Plattsburgh State Cardinal Park on Thursday. The game would remain scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Nighthawks would erupt for a 3-0 lead by Gabby Cunningham's 2 rbi double. In the fifth inning, the Nighthawks would get a tac-on round on the sacrifice fly by Steph Gappner for the 4-0 lead. Although the Hornets would not go quietly as they would try to hold the home field they would answer back in the sixth inning with a pair of runs lead by rbi hits by Duquette and Miller to make it a 4-2 game. The Hornets would try and tie the game up in the seventh but it would fall short and the Peru Nighthawks would get the upset win to advance to Section VII Class B Finals against the Saranac Chiefs. In the winning effort, Zoey Malcolm would go the complete game giving up 2 runs on three hits while striking out eight to get the win. Gallery

Plattsburgh's pitcher delivers the strike in the early portion of the game before the rain would come. It would be a matchup between the Plattsburgh Hornets and the Saranac Chiefs at Plattsburgh High School inside the Champlain Valley Athletic action. It would start off as a good game as the Hornets would get a single run in the second and third inning and have a 2-0 lead. Although early in the fourth inning the rain would come and the game would be put on hold and will be finished up at a later date. Gallery

Fredonia State Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 22nd 2023

Plattsburgh State's Michelle Gonzalez (12) with the running catch in the outfield on the ball that tried to get over her head. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would meet up with the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC action as they are making the playoff stretch. The first game of the doubleheader would be a tight one but would go to the home Cardinals 4-3. They would enter the second game looking for the sweep on the day and would start off well as they would have a four-run first inning led by Julia Golino's RBI double. Then in the second inning, the Cardinals would add a pair of runs to extend their lead to 6-0 helped by Claire Palmer's rbi single. In the third inning, the Cardinal bats would stay hot and get two more runs and extend their lead to 10-0. In the fourth inning, the Cardinal bats would explode though as they would get six runs led by 2 runs sacrifice fly by Mikayla Manalo. The game would be called after the fifth inning due to the mercy rule as the Cardinals get the 16-0 win. In the winning effort, Julia Golino would get the complete game shutout as she scattered three hits on the day while striking out three as the Cardinals go to 18-6 on the season. Gallery

St Lawrence Saints @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 12th 2023

The Plattsburgh State runner slides in safely ahead of the tag and extends the Cardinal's lead. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals Softball team would be in action this afternoon as they would have a nonconference doubleheader against the St Lawrence Saints at Cardinals Park. In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Cardinals would break the 3-3 tie on a pair of base hits from Golino and Diller to take the 5-3 lead. Then in the sixth inning, Cardinals Golno would hit a three-rbi double to give the Cardinals the 8-3 lead and the eventual victory. In the second game of the doubleheader in the fourth inning, the Cardinals would explode with five runs on three base hits from Palmer, Persampir, and Torres and take a 7-2 lead. In the sixth inning, the Saints would strike for two runs to make it an 8-4 game. Although in the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals would end the Saints thought of a comeback as the Cardinals would make it a five-run lead again on the Gonzales fielder's choice and secure the 9-4 victory. With the sweep on the afternoon, the Cardinals go to 13-3 on the season. Gallery
