Plattsburgh's Nate Baker (4) slides in safe ahead of the tag of Northern Adirondack's Bruce (7) at the plate for the score. It would be a matchup inside section VII Baseball as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats in league action. The Hornets would score four runs in the second inning with the key point of the inning being a rbi single by Braeden Calkins to give the Hornets the 4-0 lead. However, Bobcats would answer right back with a single run in the top of the third inning to make it a 4-1 game. Although the Hornets would keep the bats hot and score another 4 runs in the bottom of the third led by a 3-rbi triple by Trenton Griffiths to give the Hornets the 8-1 lead. The Hornets would stay hot in the fourth inning the Hornets would score another 4 runs lead by a pair of rbi hits by Nate Baker and Braeden Calkins and take a 12-1 lead. Then in the fifth inning, the Hornets would continue the hitting as they would get another couple of runs on a 2 rbi double by Marcus Griffith and extend the lead to 14-1. In the sixth inning, the Bobcats would get a single run by Boulrice on a passed ball to make it a 14-2 game. Although the Hornets would keep their red-hot going and get another five runs in the sixth inning led by a pair of rbi singles by Nate Baker and Jake Ferris as the Hornets would secure the 19-2 win. In the winning effort for the Hornets, Dan Hartman would go five innings and give up just three hits and one run and struck out nine as the Hornets go to 8-3 as the Bobcats would fall to 1-6 on the season. Fredonia State Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals May 5th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Adam Wein (3) with the high step to avoid the tag by the Fredonia State pitcher to score. It would be the start of the final series of the season for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and they would host the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC Baseball action. The game would start off well for the home Cardinals as they would get the 3-0 lead in the third inning of the game led by Kornblau's rbi double. The game would stay there til the sixth inning when the Fredonia State Blue Devils would get on the board with a rbi single by Wentland. In the top of the seventh, the Cardinals would regain their three-run lead at 4-1 on the rbi single by Gonzalski. Then in the 8th inning, the Blue Devils would get it back to a two-run game at 4-2 on the Roach rbi single. However, the Cardinals would answer right back on a rbi double by Defayette to make it a 5-2 game and give the Cardinals the win. In the winning effort, Sean Malamud would win as he would go the complete game and scatter five hits giving up two runs and striking out four as the Cardinals went to 13-20 on the season. Gallery

Cortland State Red Dragons @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 28th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Joey Di Rocco (5) slides in safe ahead of the tag of the Cortland State catcher at the plate. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Cortland State Red Dragons in SUNYAC baseball action as part of a doubleheader from Chip Cummings Field. The first game would not go so well for the home Cardinals as the game would be called after seven innings due to the run rule the Red Dragons would get the 15-2 win. Then in the second game of the doubleheader, the game would not look good for the home Cardinals as Mieczkowski would start the game with a two-run homer and give the Red Dragons the 2-0 lead. Although in the bottom of the first, the Cardinals would answer back with a rbi triple by Nick Cergol to make it a 2-1 game. Then in the second inning, the Cardinals would tie the game at two on the Adam Wein rbi single. The game would remain there till the fifth inning when Red Dragons Chemotti would hit the rbi single to take the 3-2 lead. In the seven-inning, the Red Dragons would extend their lead to 5-2 on the Krafft rbi single. Then in the ninth inning, Krafft would hit a sacrifice fly to get the 6-2 Red Dragons lead and secure the victory. The Cardinals would fall to 12-20 on the season as Andrew Veit get saddled with the loss as he gave up ten hits and six runs over eight innings. The Cardinals will be back in action this Tuesday, May 2nd with a nonconference game against the Middlebury Panthers. Gallery

Saranac Chiefs @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 25th 2023

Plattsburgh's Dan Hartman (11) delivers the strike as he would pitch five innings of shutout ball for the win. The Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the Saranac Chiefs in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action. The game would start off well for the home Hornets as Brady Calkins would have a 2 rbi double for an early 2-0 lead. Then in the second inning, the Hornets would double up their lead on another 2 rbi base hit from Brady Calkins to extend their lead to 4-0. In the third inning, the Hornets would add another two runs on hits from Dominick Deangelo and Trenton Griffiths to extend the lead to 6-0 and then the rains would come and put a halt to the game. The teams would pick up the game a couple of days later in the fourth inning and in that inning the Hornets would add another four runs and take the 10-0 lead by a 2 rbi single by Jake Calkins. In the fifth inning, the Hornet's bats would stay hot and get a pair of runs to secure the 12-0 victory. In the win, Hornets Dan Hartman and Warren Miller would combine for the complete game shutout as they would go to 5-3 on the season while the Chiefs fall to 3-2 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh's pitcher delivers the strike in the early portion of the game before the rain would come. It would be a matchup between the Plattsburgh Hornets and the Saranac Chiefs at Plattsburgh High School inside the Champlain Valley Athletic action. It would start off as a good game as the Hornets would get a single run in the second and third inning and have a 2-0 lead. Although early in the fourth inning the rain would come and the game would be put on hold and will be finished up at a later date. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Michelle Gonzalez (12) with the running catch in the outfield on the ball that tried to get over her head. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would meet up with the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC action as they are making the playoff stretch. The first game of the doubleheader would be a tight one but would go to the home Cardinals 4-3. They would enter the second game looking for the sweep on the day and would start off well as they would have a four-run first inning led by Julia Golino's RBI double. Then in the second inning, the Cardinals would add a pair of runs to extend their lead to 6-0 helped by Claire Palmer's rbi single. In the third inning, the Cardinal bats would stay hot and get two more runs and extend their lead to 10-0. In the fourth inning, the Cardinal bats would explode though as they would get six runs led by 2 runs sacrifice fly by Mikayla Manalo. The game would be called after the fifth inning due to the mercy rule as the Cardinals get the 16-0 win. In the winning effort, Julia Golino would get the complete game shutout as she scattered three hits on the day while striking out three as the Cardinals go to 18-6 on the season. Gallery

It would be a Saturday morning matchup of a pair of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball foes as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Moriah Vikings. The game would remain scoreless all the way till the fifth inning when the Hornets would erupt for seven runs lead by a 2 rbi double by Nate Baker. The Hornets would stay hot in the following inning as they would another 4 runs in the sixth inning led by a rbi single by Jack Sorrell the Hornets would get the 11-0 victory. In the winning effort, Trenton Griffiths would go the complete game 1 hitter shutout while striking out eight as the Hornets go to 3-2 on the season while the Vikings fall to 1-2 on the season. Plattsburgh's Dom Deangelo (5) with the diving catch in left field to take away the base hit from the Red Storm. It would be an early season matchup in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake Red Storm. The game would start off well for the home Hornets as they would get on the board in the first inning on an RBI triple from Jace Lacey and take a 1-0 lead. Then in the second inning, the Hornets would start to take control of the game with a four-run inning led by a 2 RBI single from Warren Miller to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead. Then in the fourth inning, the Hornets would explode again with another five-run inning to take a 10-0 lead on a pair of RBI hits by Warren Miller and Jake Calkins. In the fifth inning, the Hornets would add a single run on a Braeden Calkins RBI single and extend their lead to 11-0. In the top of the sixth, the Red Storm would break up the shutout bid when Nick Munn would score on a sacrifice fly to make it an 11-1 game. Then in the bottom of the sixth, the Hornets would add two more runs lead by an RBI single by Dan Hartman as the Hornets would secure the 13-1 victory. In the winning effort Hornets pitcher Dan Hartman would give up one hit walked two and struck out five over his five innings of work in the winning effort as the Hornets go to 2-2 on the season while the Red Storm suffer their first loss of the season and go to 2-1 on the year. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow as the Plattsburgh Hornets will host the Moriah Vikings and the Saranac Lake Red Storm will travel to Lake Placid. Gallery

Canton Golden Bears @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 19th 2023

Canton's (17) beats Plattsburgh's Owen Pray (21) on the break for the goal. It would be the home opener and the first home game for the Hornets in over two seasons and they would have a conference game against the Canton Golden Bears. The game would not start off the greatest for the Hornets but they would stay in and only be down 3-1 after the first with the lone goal scorer for the Hornets being Declan Baker. In the second quarter, the defenses would stand tall on both sides as there would be no scoring in the quarter and the Bears would take the 3-1 lead into the break. Although when the teams returned for the third quarter the Bear's offense would come to life as they would explode for five in the quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, the Bears would have another 3-1 quarter with Declan Baker scoring again for the Hornets as the Bears would get the 11-2 win. In the winning effort, the Bears go to 2-1 on the season while Owen Pray would make 29 saves as the Hornets fall to 0-5 on the season. Gallery

New Paltz Hawks @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 15th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Andrew Veit (2) with the pick and fire from the hole at shortstop for the out at first. It would be the first game of a twin bill for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals from the Chip Cummings Field against the New Paltz Hawks in SUNYAC play. The game would remain scoreless until the third inning when Kyle Cremin would hit the RBI single to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. When the Hawks would get up next in the top of the 4th inning they would tie the game at one Ortiz's fielder choice. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals would regain the lead on Connor Gonzalski's rbi single and make it a 2-1 game. Once again the Hawks would answer right back in the 6th inning on another fielder's choice this time from Ascanio and tie the game at two. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals would retake the one-run lead on a solo home run by Kyle Cremin for the 3-2 lead. In the 8th inning, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the rbi single to center from Nck Cergol. In the ninth inning, the Hawks would try and make and come back and tie the game up but it fall short as they would only get one off a sac fly by Harvey and the Cardinals would hold on the four the 4-3 victory and they would get the sweep on the day with the 10-7 victory in game two. In the first game, Chris Samtic would scatter 9 hits over 7 and third innings giving up 2 runs as the Cardinals go to 9-14 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action Tuesday in nonleague action as they would take on Liberty League foe St Lawrence Saints. Gallery
