NYSPHSAA Class C First Round: #18 Gouverneur Wildcats Vs #14 Saranac Spartans November 11th 2023

Gouverneur's (24) with the leaping catch on the wheel play for the first down. It would be the opening Round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Football Tournament and it would feature the #14 Saranac Spartans hosting the #18 Gouverneur Wildcats from Plattsburgh High School in the North Country Super Bowl for the right to head to the quarterfinals and meet up with a team from Section II. It would be a defensive first half and the teams would be looking for the first score of the game. The Spartans would break through with the first score of the game with 28 seconds left in the half on the Zander Daniels 7-yard pass strike to give the Spartans the 7-0 lead as they ended the first half. The game would stay there till the opening minute of the fourth quarter when Nathan Hamel would hit a 32-yard field goal to take the 10-0 lead. The Wildcats would get on the board finally at the 5:37 mark of the quarter on the Raine Rumble 3-yard pass and make it a 10-7 game. The Wildcats would keep fighting and capture the lead with 20 seconds left in the game on Raine Rumble's 11-yard pass and score. Although the Spartans wouldn't go quietly as they would have a chance to force overtime on a 40-yard field goal attempt it came up short. With the win the Gouverneur Wildcats advance to the quartersfinals next week and go to 8-1 on the season while the Spartans season will come to an end at 8-2. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class C Championship: #1 Saranac Spartans Vs #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm November 4th 2023

Saranac Lake's Zack Goetz (6) jumps over Saranac's Conner Burns (2) for an interception to stop the Spartans scoring attempt. It would be the first championship of championship Saturday from Ausable Valley High School as the #17 (#1) Saranac Spartans would take on the #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm for the Section VII Class C Championships. The Spartans would jump out to the lead just 2:13 into the game on a 25-yard run by Landen Smith to give the Spartans the 7-0 lead. The Spartans would stay on the gas and extend their lead to 15-0 on a 2-yard run by Nathan Hamel. Then with just 1:12 left in the quarter, Nathan Hamel would score again this time from 18 yards out, and give the Spartans the 22-0 lead as the first quarter would come to an end. In the second quarter, the Spartans would stay on the gas as they would score two more times this time from Conner Burns and Alex Clancey, and give the Spartans the 36-0 lead as they headed into the locker room. When the teams returned for the second half it was looking like the first half again as the Spartans would score just 4:35 into the half on a 6-yard run by Haiden Blair to give the Spartans the 43-0 lead. The Red Storm would get on the board with a 12-yard passing touchdown with 1:20 left in the third quarter to make it a 43-6 game. However, the Red Storm would not just be happy with avoiding the shutout as they would score again with 4 minutes left in the game on the Evan Willett running score to make it 43-12 game. With that, the Saranac Spartans would hold onto the win and advance to the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and will be in action next week against Section X's Gouvenour Wildcats in the opening round on November 10th. As for the Saranac Lake Red Storm, their season comes to an end at 1-8. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class B Championship: #1 Peru Nighthawks Vs #2 Beekmantown Eagles November 3rd 2023

Peru's Trenten Taylor (15) with the leaping catch along the sidelines and he would took into the endzone for the score. It would be the second game of the championship Saturday from Ausable Valley as this time it would be the Section VII Class B championship as it would be the classic rivalry with the #1 Peru Nighthawks and the #2 Beekmantown Eagles for the right to head to the NYSPHSAA Class B Tournament. It would start out like a lot of these classic games with hard-hitting and tight defense. The Nighthawks would finally break through for the first score of the game on a 23-yard pass and catch to Trenten Taylor to give the Nighthawks the 7-0 lead with 2 minutes left in the half and that is how the first half would end. The game would stay there till the 5:38 mark of the third quarter when Zack Engstrom would score from 5 yards out to make it a 14-0 game. Then with just over six minutes left in the game, the Nighthawks would take control of the game on Zack Engstrom's second score of the game this time from 40 yards out, and secure the 20-0 lead and win. With the win the Nighthawks go to 8-1 on the season and will take on the Gouvenor Wildcats in the opening round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament. The Beekmantown Eagles season will come to an end at 6-4. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class D Championship: #1 Moriah Vikings Vs #2 Ausable Valley Patriots November 3rd 2023

It would be the Section VII Class D Championship from the Beekmantown High School as the #8 (#1) Moriah Vikings would take on the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots for the right to go to the NYSPHAA Class D Tournament. The game would start off well for the Vikings as they would score just 3:50 into the game on a five-yard run by Evan Fleury to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead. The Vikings would stay on the gas and score just under four minutes later this time on a 2 yard run by Evan Fluery to extend their lead to 14-0. Then in the final 30 seconds in the first quarter, the Vikings would strike again this time from 34 yards and Evan Fluery would score again for his three score of the quarter to give the Vikings the 22-0 lead. The Vikings would slow down some and get just one score in the quarter on a 68-yard scramble to give the Vikings the 30-0 lead as the team went into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Vikings would lighten up and there would only be one score on a 25-yard pass to Luke Smith to give the Vikings the 37-0 lead and the win. In the winning effort, the Vikings go to 7-2 on the season and will enter the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament and take on the winner of Section II on November 17th. As the Ausable Valley Patriots season comes to an end at 1-8. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class B Semi-Finals: #3 Plattsburgh Hornets @ #2 Beekmantown Eagles October 27th 2023

Beekmantown's defensive lineman with the hit on Plattsburgh's Dan Hartman (11) to knock the pass offline. It would be the lone Section VII playoff game of the weekend as the #2 Beekmantown Eagles would host crosstown rival the #3 Plattsburgh Hornets for the right to take on the #1 Peru Nighthawks for the Section VII Class B Finals next week at Ausable Valley. The game would start off great for the Eagles as they would take a 7-0 lead just 2:30 into the game on a 65-yard strike to Josh Sands. The Eagles would keep the offense going as they would score again on their next drive to take the 14-0 lead. The Hornets would show some life halfway through the first quarter on a 72-yard scramble by Dan Hartman to cut the deficit to 14-6. Although the Eagles would regain their two-score lead at 21-6 on the 36-yard run by Louis Sweenor and that's how the first quarter would end. The Eagles would keep on the gas and score just 3 minutes into the second quarter on the 1-yard run by Peyton Viau and take the 28-6 lead. The Hornets would keep fighting and as time was nearing the end of the half Dominic Deangelo would return a pick 6 interception 95 yards to make it a two-score game again at 29-12 at the half. When the teams return for the second half the Eagles would pick up where they left off with a 8-yard run by Parker Broughton to give them a 35-12 lead just 5 minutes into the half. Then with 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Eagles would make a 28-yard field goal from Patrick Hagadorn for the 38-12 lead. The game would stay there till about three minutes left when Shamus Bibeau would score from 8 yards out for the 44-12 victory. In the winning effort, the Beekmantown Eagles will advance to the Class B Finals while the Plattsburgh Hornets season will come to an end at 1-7. Gallery

It would be week #7 in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference football and the 1-5 Ausable Valley Patriots would be hosting the #11 ranked and undefeated Saranac Spartans. The game would start off well for the visiting Spartans as they scored just 4 minutes into the game on an 85-yard catch and run from Connor Burns for a 6-0 lead. Then with four minutes left in the opening quarter, the Spartans would strike again this time on a 45 strike to Alex Clancey to take the 13-0 lead as the first quarter would come to a close. When the second quarter started the Spartans would stay on the attack and score a 4-yard run by Cayden Bouvia to take the 20-0 just 3 minutes into the quarter. The Spartans would stay on the gas and score again a 20-yard strike to Bryce Deangelo with 4 minutes left in the half. As the half would be nearing the end the Spartans would find Alex Clancy for a 7-yard pass to take the 34-0 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the second half the Spartans would let off the gas and cruise through the half with a 14-0 advantage and secure a 48-0 win. In the winning effort, the Spartans go to 7-0 on the season as they will head into their final game of the season at home against the 5-2 Moriah Vikings. Beekmantown's Louis Sweenor (32) fights through the tackles and dives ahead for the score with defenders all over him. It would be week #6 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season and the Ausable Valley Patriots would be hosting the Beekmantown Eagles in a mid-season tilt. The Eagles would get the scoring started on a 3-yard run just 4:36 into the game and take the 7-0 lead. The Patriot's defense would do their best to keep the game tight in the early stages as it would stay there till the 3:04 mark of the second quarter when the Eagles would strike on a 19-yard pass to Peyton Viau to extend the lead to 14-0. Then in the final couple minutes of the half, the Eagles would expand on their lead on Louis Sweenor's second running touchdown of the game to take the 21-0 lead into the locker room. When the teams returned for the second half the Eagles offense would stay hot and take a 28-0 lead with 3 minutes left in the quarter on a Peyton Viau 36-yard passing touchdown for second on the night. Then as time would expire in the third quarter the Eagles would strike again this time to Patrick Hagadorn for the 18-yard pass strike and that would end the scoring as neither team would break the goal line in the fourth quarter. With the win the Beekmantown Eagles go to 3-3 on the season and will travel to Saranac Lake next week. The Ausable Valley Patriots fall to 1-5 on the season and will have a home tilt next week against the undefeated Saranac Spartans. Gallery

Ausable Valley's Hayden Bombard (13) sheds off the tackler and bounces to the outside for the extra yards. It would be week #4 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Football season and the Ausable Valley Patriots would be hosting the Saranac Lake Red Storm on their annual homecoming game weekend, This would be a game where the defenses would stand tall and a run-first offense on both sides. There would be no scoring through the first quarter and the game would be tied at zero after the first fifteen minutes of the game. Finally, at the 3:37 mark of the second quarter, we would get our first score of the game as Dylan Bombard for the Patriots would rumble in from five yards out to give the Patriots the 6-0 lead. Then in the closing seconds of the first half, the Patriots would get on the board again and extend their lead to 12-0 on Dylan Bombard's second score of the game from one yard out and take the lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the defenses on both sides would still be superior. However, the Patriots and Dylan Bombard would find the eye in the storm and give Dylan Bombard his third score of the game this time from 12 yards out, and extend the Patriots ' lead to 20-0. That would be all the scoring in the game and the Patriots would get the 20-0 victory to go to 1-3 on the season as they look for their match-up next weekend against the Peru Nighthawks. The Saranac Lake Red Storm fall to 1-3 on the season and will host the Malone Huskies next week in nonleague action. Gallery

N.Y.S.P.H.S.A.A. Football Week #3 Ausable Valley Patriots @ Massena Red Raiders September 16th 2023

Ausable Valley's Konor Facteu (11) with the picture-perfect wrap up tackle on Massena's Carter King (9) to stop him in the backfield. It would be week #3 of the New York State Football season and we would see an out-of-section game as the Ausable Valley Patriots would travel to Massena and take on the Red Raiders as they were looking for their first win of the season as the Red Raiders look to stay perfect on the year. The game would start off well for the Red Raiders as they would get the opening score of the game with 3:30 left in the first quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Murtaugh and take the 8-0 laead. The game would stay there till halfway through the 2nd quarter when the Raiders would strike again on a 40-yard pass to Garrett Weir and extend the lead to 16-0. Then just two minutes later the Red Raiders would start to take control of the game and a 29-yard run score by Carter King making the game 22-0 Raiders. The Raiders would finish off the scoring in the first half on Dominic Murtagh's second score of the game this time from 38 yards to make it 30-0 at the half. When the teams would return for the second half it would look like more of the same as the Red Raiders scored 2:32 into the half on a Carter King goal-line score to make it 36-0. However, the Patriots would have an answer this time as Dylan Bombard would get the Patriots on the board with an 18-yard run with just under five minutes left in the third quarter at 36-7. The Patriots would keep up the scoring as they would get another one 5:38 into the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by John Fletcher making it a 36-14 game. However, the Red Raiders would put any hopes of a comeback away when Donovan Turner scored on a 42-yard run with five minutes left in the game to make it 43-14. Although the Patriots would keep up the fight and Ian Bombard would score on the goal line with 3:30 left in the game to make it a 43-21 game. That would be where the game would end as the Massena Red Raiders get the win 43-21 and go to 3-0 on the season as they head into the game next week against Malone Huskies. As for the Ausable Valley Patriots will look to get that first win of the season next week as they host the Saranac Lake Red Storm. Gallery

It would be week #3 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season and we would have the old crosstown rivalry once against as the #20 Peru Nighthawks would host the Plattsburgh Hornets at the Apple Bowl. It would take till there were just under three minutes left in the first quarter to get the first score of the game when Sawyer Schlitt would score on the 1-yard lead for the 6-0 lead. Then with just under forty seconds left in the quarter, the Nighthawks would double their lead on an 83-yard run from Sawyer Schlitt for his second score of the game and take the 13-0 lead, and that was where the game would stay to end the half as there was no scoring in the second quarter. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Nighthawks would start to pull away as Sawyer Schlitt would score for the third time in the game this time from 14 yards out and take the 20-0 just under five minutes into the third quarter. Then at the 7:33 mark of the third quarter, Sawyer Schlitt would get his fourth score of the game this time from 16 yards out, and extend their lead to 27-0. With just under four minutes left in the quarter, the Hornets would break up the shutout bid as Riguelson Filosca would get the touchdown on a 15-yard pass and cut the deficit to 27-8. However, with just over a minute left in the quarter the Nighthawks would score again this time on a 29-yard run from Zack Engstrom and make it a 34-8. Then just 3:29 into the fourth quarter Nighthawks Sawyer Schlitt would add his fifth touchdown of the game on a five-yard run and secure the 40-8 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks will go to 3-0 on the season as they will head to the Saranac Spartans on September 23rd while the Hornets fall to 0-3 and will host Beekmantown Eagles on September 22nd. Saranac's Alex It would be the second week of action high school football in New York and the Saranac Spartans would host the Ogdensburg Blue Devils from section ten in nonconference action. The Spartans would get the opening score of the game on an 88-yard break-out play by Nathan Hamel to take the 7-0 lead five minutes into the game. The game would stay there till midway through the second quarter when the Spartans would strike again this time on a 33-yard pass to Alex Clancey to extend their lead to 14-0 and that's where the game would be at the half. Although when the teams would come back for the second half the Spartans would bring their offense with them as they would score on a 1-yard run by Nathan Hamel to extend the lead to 20-0 halfway through the third quarter. Then on the next offensive drive for the Blue Devils, Spartans Isaiah Lopez would pick up the fumble and take it in for the score to give the Spartans the 27-0 lead. Then as time would expire in the third quarter the Spartans would strike again on a 22-yard pass to Bryce Deangelo to extend their lead to 33-0. In the fourth quarter with just over half the quarter left Addison Kelting would score on a 25-yard run and the Spartans would take the 40-0 lead. However, the Blue Devils would be able to avoid the shutout as they would score in the closing minutes of the game. Although the Spartans would get the 40-6 win they would go to 2-0 on the season as the Blue Devils started 0-1. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Football Week #2 Peru Nighthawks @ Beekmantown Eagles September 9th 2023

It would only be the second week of the high school football season but it would be a big match-up as the Beekmantown Eagles would host long-time rival the Peru Nighthawks for early season bragging rights. The Eagles would get on the board first in the early stages of the first quarter with a field goal and take a 3-0 lead. However, the Nighthawks would answer back as time would expire in the first quarter on a 75-yard run by Sawyer Schlitt and take the 7-3 lead. Halfway through the second quarter the Eagles would soar and retake the lead at 10-7 on a 80-yard pass to Zack Lapier for the score. Although with just under 2 minutes left in the half, the Nighthawks and Sawyer Schlitt would strike again for his second score of the game and take the 13-10 lead at the intermission. The Eagles would come out flying in the third quarter as Nathan Parliament would score on a fifteen-yard run and retake the lead at 17-10. However, from there the Nighthawks would take control of the game as Sawyer Schlitt would score two more times and take a 27-17 lead after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would put an end to the rivalry game on this night when Landon Duprey would have a pick 6 for 85 yards and secure the 33-17 win. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks go to 2-0 while the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season. The Nighthawks will look to see if they stay undefeated next week as they host the Plattsburgh Hornets while the Eagles will look to get their first win of the season as they will travel to Moriah. It would be the opening weekend of High School Football in New York and the Plattsburgh Hornets would start off by welcoming the Hudson Falls Tigers in for a nonconference game. The Tigers would start the scoring off just over 8 minutes into the game with a 2-yard run by David Gonzalez for the 8-0 lead. The Hornets would answer back with just under 90 seconds left in the first quarter on a 29-yard pass to Dominic Deangelo and get the two-point conversion to tie the game at eight after the first quarter. That is where the game would stay until there was 1:23 left in the third quarter when Jayden Harwick would score for the Tigers and get the two-point conversion to take the 16-8 lead. However, the Hornets would answer right back with three seconds left in the third quarter on a 61-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Deangelo for the second score of the game and tie the game 16 after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers would retake the lead once again four minutes into the fourth quarter when Peyton Dupuis scored on a five-yard run with 7:36 left in the game and got the two-point conversion to take the 24-16 lead. Although the Hornets would answer right back as Landon Ladue would take back the ensuing kickoff for a 73-yard score they would come up short on the two-point conversion and the Tigers would hold the 24-22 lead and get the win. In the winning effort, the Hudson Falls Tigers would start the season 1-0 as they head to conference play and take on Glens Falls. The Hornets will look to get the ship going again as they will take on the Saranac Lake Red Storm. Gallery
