Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Beekmantown Eagles - Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Hockey - January 20th 2020

Northeastern Clinton's Reid LaValley (2) and Beekmantown's Gordie King (4) battle for the puck behind the net. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference matchup between the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Beekmantown Eagles in a battle for second in the conference. It would be a game that would live up to the hype as there would be no scoring in the first and second periods of these two evenly matched teams. Then the third period would come around and it would be a different story. It would start off good for the Eagles as they score two goals in the first 2:22 from Dalton Kane and Alex Brienza and have a 2-0 lead. Then at the six-minute mark, the Cougars would score and break up the shutout on the Jon Bulson goal for a 2-1 game. Then at the nine-minute mark, the Cougars would score again this time on the power play from Zachary Miller to make it 2-2. Then at the 11:19 mark, the comeback would be complete as the Cougars would get a second powerplay goal this time from Lucas Bedard for a 3-2. From there on the Cougars would hold on for the 3-2 depict a firey attempt from the Eagles for the equalizer. In the winning effort, the Cougars go to 5-5-1 on the season and have a matchup coming up against the Malone Huskies while the Beekmantown Eagles fall to 5-4-1 on the season and play West Seneca next. Hanover Marauders @ Beekmantown Eagles - High School Girls Hockey - January 20th 2020

Beekmantown's Brianne Knight (1) with the blocker save on the long range shot as part of a 20 plus save game. The Beekmantown girls’ ice hockey team earned another victory Monday, defeating the Marauders of Hanover High School 4-2 in non-league action. The game, played on a Monday afternoon because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, began with a senior day ceremony recognizing Madison Tetreault, Bryan Walsh, and Bailey Carter. Once the puck dropped though, the Lady Eagles didn’t waste much time. At the 2:17 mark, Carter’s pass from behind the goal line found Brooke Ruest out in front for a quick shot and a goal. Beekmantown’s lead doubled about four minutes later, as Ruest returned the favor by assisting on Carter’s goal before Sage McGinley-Smith scored unassisted to put Hanover on the board. The second period saw the Marauders apply sustained offensive pressure the first several minutes, but it was the Lady Eagles who took the puck up the ice on a counterattack for a quick score. A pass from Tetreault sprung Leah Coulombe loose, and Coulombe did not miss. Brooke Ruest largely put the game to rest early in the third period, tapping in a goal at the back door off assists from Janna Ruest and Sophia King. Hanover’s Meredith Morhun scored late in the game to narrow the gap, but the Lady Eagles held on to their 4-2 to the end. Brianne Knight made 22 saves for Beekmantown, while Marauders goaltenders Rebekah Rudd and Katie Smith made 16 and 17, respectively. Gallery

Manchester Invitational - Championship Sunday - Pro Bull Riders (PBR) - January 19th 2020

Vermont's Corey Moriarty (15) drives UMass's Gianfranco Cassaro (23) into the broads to break up the play. It would be a Hockey East matchup at the Gutterson Fieldhouse as the Vermont Catamounts would host the #10 UMass Minutemen. The game would not start off good for the home Catamounts as the Minutemen would score at the 1:37 mark of the first period on the John Leonard goal. The Minutemen would double up there lead at the 12:54 mark of the period on the Jake McLaughlin goal. The game would stay there through the second period as there was no scoring. In the third period, the Catamounts would score on Matt Alvaro's goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 9:17 mark of the third period. The Minutemen would regain the 2 goal lead at 3-1 on the Matthew Kessel goal at the 17:22 mark of the third period. In the losing effort, Stefanos Lekkas would make 36 saves as the Catamount fall to 3-15-1 on the season. Gallery

Hartford Hawks @ Vermont Catamounts - America East Men's Basketball - Janaury 18th 2020

Vermont's Robin Duncan cuts around the hip of the defender and drives to the basket for the score as part of a team-high 11 points. It would be an America East matchup in front of a sold-out crowd at the Patrick Gym as the host Vermont Catamounts would take on the Hartford Hawks as they look to avenge last year's home loss that ended there home winning streak. In the first half, it would go back and forth for a while and then the Catamounts would steadily pull away as they would have a 37-27 lead at the break. When the teams would return for the second half the home Catamounts would leave little to be settled as they would win the half as they win the half 37-30 and secure the 74-57 victory. In the winning effort, Robin Duncan would lead the balanced attack with 11 points as the Catamount goes to 13-6 on the season. Next up for the Catamounts will be a trip to Maine to face the Black Bears on the 22nd. Gallery.

Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets - Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Hockey - January 17th 2020

Plattsburgh's Thomas Carron (22) hits and drives Beekmantown's DJ Gonyo (27) hard into the broads head first but he would bounce back and continue on. The Beekmantown Eagles and Plattsburgh Hornets would meet for the first of two meetings this season in the crosstown rivalry featured in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference. It would be a game that would live up to the rivalry as the two teams would duke it out throughout body blow after body blow neither of them giving an inch. The Eagles would strike first with the opening goal from Dalton Kane on the powerplay at the 8:45 mark of the first period. The game would remain there through the rest of the period and even though the whole second period as there would be no scoring. Just when you were starting to think that this might be the lone goal of the game the Hornets would answer and tie the game at 1 at the 10:44 mark of the third on the Tyler Ried powerplay goal. The game would stay there for the rest of the period and the teams would head to overtime tied at one. In the overtime frame, the Eagles would send there fans home happy as Dalton Kane would strike again with his second goal of the game and give them the 2-1 victory. In the winning effort, Riley Hansen would make 20 saves as the Eagles go to 3-3-1 on the season while the Hornets John Dublanyk would make 21 saves as they fall to 4-4-1 on the season. Next up for the Eagles will be the Northeastern Clinton Cougars on a quick turn around Monday, January 20th while the Hornets while getting the Saranac Chiefs January 21st. Gallery

Canton Kanagroos @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals - NEWHL Women's Hockey - January 17th 2020

Plattsburgh State's Kaitlin Drew-Mead (27) splits a pair of Kangaroos and gets the shot off on net for the scoring chance. It would be a rare Friday afternoon matchup as the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Canton Kangaroos in NEWHL action at the Ronald B Stafford Arena in front of 300 fans. The upstart Kangaroos would show that they came to play as they would get the opening goal of the game at 2:57 of the first period from Breanna Bedborough. Although the Cardinals turn around and come back on fire as they would get four goals to end out the period from Erin McArdle, Sara Krauseneck (twice) and Hanna Rose for the 4-1 lead. In the second period, the Cardinals would keep their foot on the accelerator as they would get four more goals from Sarah Wolfe, Abby Brush (twice), and Sara Krauseneck would get her hat trick goal for a 8-1 Cardinals lead. In the third period, the Cardinals would lighten up as they would have just a lone goal from Holly Schmelzer to secure the 9-1 victory. In the winning effort, Chloe Beaubien would make 16 saves as the Cardinals go to 16-1 on the season. Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets - Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Hockey - January 15th 2020

Plattsburgh's Seamus Andrew (23) gets the shot off in the slot as Northeastern Clinton's Lucas Bedard is draped all over him. It would be Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. The Cougars would get the opening goal of the game at the 10:29 mark of the first period on the goal by Zachary Miller's goal to make it 1-0. The game would stay there till the 9:21 mark of the second period when the Cougars would strike again this time on the shorthand by Ryan Johnston to make it 2-0 Cougars. That is where the game would stay till the closing minute of the game when the Cougars would add an empty netter from Reid LaValley for the 3-0 victory. In the winning effort, Ethan Garrand would make 21 saves for the shutout victory as the Cougars go to 4-5 while the Hornets John Dublanyk would make 31 saves as they fall to 4-6-1 on the season. Weslyan Cardinals @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals - NCAA Division 3 Men's Hockey - January 14th 2020

Plattsburgh State's Jimmy Poreda (29) with the save on the breakaway to keep the game tied as part of a 23 save night. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals with fellow Cardinal Wesleyan in nonconference action at the Ronald B Safford Ice Arena. The Cardinals get the quick 1-0 lead as they would score just 1:16 into the game on the Brendan Young. Wesleyan would get the equalizer in the final three minutes of the period on the Danny Sorabella goal. Wesleyan wouldn't waste time as they would take the 2-1 just 2:30 into the second period on the Colin Cobb. Then at the 15:24 mark of the second period, Plattsburgh State would tie the game up at 2 on the powerplay goal by Christian Defielecie. That is where the game would remain until the last 45 seconds when Liam Lawson would get the game-winner on a rebound in front of the net. Oswego State Lakers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals - SUNYAC Men's Hockey Men's Hockey - January 14th 2020

Plattsburgh State's Ryan Kuhn (16) would score on the scramble play late in the third period to make it 3-2. The classic rivalry would be renewed as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Oswego State Lakers in SUNYAC Men's Hockey in front of 1800 fans at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The rival Lakers would get the opening goal of the game at the 17:37 mark on the powerplay from Alex DiCarlo for the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would fight right back an answer with the tying goal 40 seconds later from Brendan Young. The Lakers would regain the lead at 2-1 five minutes into the second period on Josh Zisek goal. The Lakers would extend there lead to 3-1 on the second Alex DiCarlo powerplay goal of the game with under 5 minutes left in the second. The game would stay there till 2:15 left in the game when the Cardinals Ryan Kuhn would score to make it a 3-2 and have a game at the end. Although thirty seconds later the Lakers would answer with an empty netter from Michael Gilleseppe for the 4-2 Lakers win. In the losing effort, Jimy Poreda would make 19 saves as the Cardinals fall to 6-10-3 on the season. Gallery
