Adirondack Winter Invitational Day 2: #16 Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks Vs #20 Clarkson Golden Knights November 30th 2024

It would be the final game of the 2nd annual Adirondack Winter Invitational presented by Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, and it would feature a matchup of a pair of top 20 teams as the #16 Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks and the #20 Clarkson Golden Knights from the Lake Placid Olympic Center Herb Brooks Arena. It would take till the last minute of the period before we had our first game goal. Still, both teams would score within ten seconds of each other as Connor Eddy would get his third goal of the season for the Riverhawks, and Ryan Richardson would get his 5th of the year for the Golden Knights, and the period would end tied at one. The Golden Knights would take the lead in the game at the 8:32 mark of the second period on Ray Fust's first goal for the 2-1 lead. However, the Riverhawks would answer right back and tie the game at two 17 seconds later on the Mirko Buttazzoni second of the season. Then, just 90 seconds after that, the Riverhawks would regain the lead at 3-2 on Matt CCrasa'sthird of the season. The Golden Knights would keep fighting and tie the game up again on Ryan Richardson's second goal with 4:09 left in the second period to end the second period tied at four. When the teams returned for the third period, both would be looking for the go-ahead goal, but the Riverhawks would be the ones that would get the 4-3 lead with just under ten minutes left on Owen Cole's fifth of the season. The Golden Knights would not be denied on this day as they would tie it up again, this time on the Ellis Rickwood goal, his third of the season, and from there, the game would head to overtime. In the three-on-three overtime, both teams would have their chances. Still, no one would be able to light the lamp, and the game would officially go as a 4-4 tie, but because of the weekend tournament, a winner would be needed, which would be the Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks on the eighth round of the shootout. Henry Welsch would make saves in the winning effort for the Riverhawks, and they went to10-on the three seasons. As for the Golden Knights, Ethan Langenegger would make 23 saves as they go to 9-5-2 in the season. Gallery

Adirondack Winter Invitational Day 1: #16 Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks Vs St. Lawrence Saints November 29th 2024

St. Lawrence's Mike Kucenski (1) with the save on the breakaway attempt by Massachusetts Lowell's to keep the game 1-0 late. It would be the opening game of the 2024 edition of the Adirondack Winter Invitational from the famed Herb Brooks Arena, and it would feature a matchup between hockey east and ECAC foes as the #16 Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks would face against the St. Lawrence Saints. There would be no scoring through the opening twenty minutes of the game as the teams were feeling each other out in the opening period. The Mass Lowell would finally break through in the second period and get the game's opening goal at the 11:25 mark from Dillan Bentley for the 1-0 lead, and that's where the game would be at the end of the second period. When the teams returned for the third period, both teams had a chance to tie the game up or take control of it, but both goalies were up to the challenge. The Riverhawks would get an empty netter goal in the final minute from Scott Trurman to give them the 2-0 victory. For the Riverhawks, Beni Halasaz would make 20 saves in the shutout victory as they go to 10-3 on the season and will play the Clarkson Golden Knights tomorrow at the end of the tournament. As for the Saints, Mason Kucenski would make 28 saves on 29 shots as they fall to 4-10 on the season and will have a matchup tomorrow with the #10 Providence Firares, Gallery

Clarkson's Jack Sparkes (55) with the crushing hit on Providence's John Mustard (21) that jars the puck loose along the end boards. It would be the second game of the day from the famed Herb Brooks Arena as part of the 2nd annual Adirondack Winter Invitational, and it would feature a matchup inside the top the 20 as the #10 Providence Friars would square off with the #20 Clarkson Golden Knights. The game would start for the Friars as they would waste little time getting the contest's opening goal at the 4:15 mark of the first period on Tanner Adams's seventh goal of the season and take the early 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 13:34 mark of the period when the Friars would score this time on the shorthand from Nick Poisson for his 4th of the season. The Golden Knights would finally get into the scoring act two minutes later when Jared Mangan scored the powerplay for his fourth season, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there till the 8:57 mark of the second period when the Golden Knights found the equalizer from Ryan Richardson for his fourth of the season and tied the game. That would be the last of the scoring for regulation, and the next 32 minutes would go without a goal. So the teams would head to the overtime, and for some three-on-three hockey, at the 1:57 mark of the period, Graham Gamache would get the game-winner and his third goal of the season. In the winning effort for the Friar, Phillipp Svedeback made 23 saves as they went to 9-3-2 in the season and played for the St. Lawrence Saints tomorrow to finish the tournament. As for the Golden Knights, Ethan Langenegger would make 28 saves as they fall to 9-5-1 and will have another top-20 opponent tomorrow as they will take on the Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks. SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Morrisville State Mustangs @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 22nd 2024

Plattsburgh State's Riley Sutherland (27) goes one-on-one with Morrisville State's Grant Linville (1) as he comes in on the net. The Cardinals would return home for the second straight night as this time they would take on SUNYAC contender the Morrisville State Mustangs from the Ronnie B in front of 1600 fans on Casella Teddy Bear toss night. The game would start well for the Cardinals as they would get the game's opening goal from Tio D'Addario at the 6:09 mark of the first period. The lead would only stay at one for a short time as the Cardinals would extend their lead to 2-0 just over a minute later on the Colin Callanan goal. The game would remain there till the 3:44 mark of the third period when Jake Sacratini power-play goal to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. The Mustangs would finally be able to get on the board at the 9:03 mark of the third period when they would light the lamp on the Evan Fraccaro power play goal. The Cardinals would waste little time regaining their three-goal lead when Ryan Poorman scored a shorthanded goal 40 seconds later, making it a 4-1 game. The Cardinals would control the game from there for the win as they go to 3-3 on the season. Jacon Hearne would make 11 saves on the night, and they go to 3-3 season. The Cardinals will return to action next weekend in Middlebury for the annual Layer 8 shootout. Gallery

NYSPHSAA Class D Football Quarterfinals: Moriah Vikings (VII) Vs. #6 Greenwich Witches (II) November 23rd 2024

Greenwich's Calvin Curtis (2) and the interception along the sidelines are intended for Moriah's Isaac White (3). The NYSPHSAA Class D football tournament quarterfinals would be the Moriah Vikings from Section VII. It would take on the #6 Greenwich Witches from the Beekmantown High School with a spot in the final four from Middletown next weekend on the line. The Witches would get the game's opening score just 3:53 into the game on the 20-yard keeper by Ryan Ingber for the 6-0 lead. The Witches wouldn't be done there as they would score again at the 8:17 mark of the first quarter on a 39-yard pass and catch Jay'den White to make it a 12-0 game. The game would stay there till there was about 2:30 left in the half when Ryan Ingber would score again, and this time from 23 yards, as the Witches would take the 18-0 lead, and that's where the first half would end. When the teams returned for the second, the Witches would pick up where they left off, strike on a 48-yard pass, and catch Joseph Radovich to expand their lead to 26-0. Then, about halfway through the fourth quarter, the Vikings would get on the board and break the shutout bid on the score from the Hughey run to make it a 26-6 game. Then, with about 2:30 left in the game, the Witches would add one more score, this time from William Weber, as they would secure the 34-6 victory. That would end the season for the Moriah Vikings as they finish at 4-5. As for the Greenwich Witches, their season will continue as they go to 10-1, and they will take on #4 Burke Catholic in the final four next weekend from Middletown. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Tyler Ramm (26) with the hard hit along the boards that pins the Mustang to the wall as they attack the net. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up the home portion of their season in a rematch of the SUNYAC Championship from last season as they would take on the Cortland State Red Dragons in front of a packed house at the Ronnie B. The game would start great for the home Cardinals as they would get the opening goal just 8 minutes in on the shorthanded goal from Josh Belgrave for the 1-0 lead. The Red Dragons would return just 4 minutes later and tie the game up on the Nate Boak goal. Then, just 2 minutes after that, the Red Dragons could take the lead on the Nathan Garnier goal and make it a 2-1 game. The game would stay there till the 13:53 mark of the second period when the Red Dragons would extend their lead to 3-1. The defense would hold tall, and that's where the game ended as the Red Dragons would get the 3-1 victory. In the winning effort for the Red Dragons, they would go to 4-2 in the season, and Ronan Mobley would make 21 saves on the night. The Cardinals would fall to 2-3 in the season as Jacob Hearne made 24 saves. They will look to right the ship the next night as they would host the Morrisville State Mustangs on teddy bear toss night. Gallery

NJCAA Division III Region III Men's Basketball: Hudson Valley Community College Vikings @ Clinton Commuty Cougars November 20th 2024

Clinton Community's Jaylin Williams (24) goers up and around and lays it off the window for the Cougars score. The Clinton Community College Cougars would return home for the first time in 11 days as they would take on the Hudson Valley Community College Renegades at the campus gym. The game would take a bit to get going as both teams were looking to warm up in the gym, but it would be close through the first half, and the Cougars would take a slim 39-38 lead into the intermission. When the teams return for the second half, the offenses come with them, and the game turns into a track meet, with the Vikings winning the half 51-44 to get the road win 89-83. Although the Cougars would have their chances down the stretch and even have the lead with about three minutes left in the game. In the winning effort for the Vikings, Julius Reed would lead the way with 22 points as they go to 1-3 on the season; as for the Cougars, they will go to 4-3 on the season and will look to get back on the winning side as they will host Herkimer on Friday night. NJCAA Division III Region III Men's Basketball: Herkimer Community College Generals @ Clinton Commuty Cougars November 22nd 2024

Herkimer's Oladele Oladitan (00) with the block on Clinton's Joshua Hill (1) as he drove to hoop for the scoring attempt as the Generals would get the 90-63 victory. The Clinton Community College Cougars would be back in action at the Cougars Den, taking on the top 5 teams in Region III in the Herkimer Community College Generals. The Cougars would do their best in front of the home crowd to stay with the Generals through the first half, as the Generals would take the 40-30 lead into the locker room at the break. When the teams would return for the second half, the Generals would come out on fire, and the Cougars would not have any answer for them as the Generals would win the half 50-33. In the winning effort for the Generals, Tajuan Thomas would lead the way with 20 points on the night as they went to 6-1 on the season; as for the Cougars, Malike Alassani and Elijah Carroll would each have 11 points as the Cougars fall to 4-4 on the season and they will return to action December 3rd as they will travel to take on SUNY Canton. St. Lawrence Saints @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 19th 2024

Plattsburgh State's Julia Greek (2) takes flight on the runner as she drives the hoop and would have seven on the evening. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals Women's Basketball team would be back in action at Memorial as they would look to extend their winning streak to three as they would take on North Country foe from the Liberty League, the St. Lawrence Saints. The game would start well for the home Cardinals in the high pace affair with a 19-13 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Saints would keep coming, though, and they would take it into the intermission tied at 33 with a 20-14 quarter. When the teams would return for the third quarter, the Saints would stay hot as they would come out with a 17-11 quarter, taking the lead at 50-44 and entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the home Cardinals would do their best to get the lead back, and they would even have their chance down the stretch to tie the game with under ten seconds, but it would come up short with a 16-14 quarter, and the Saints would get the 64-60 win. In the winning effort for the Saints, they would stay perfect on the season at 4-0, and Caelan McHarney and Annie Perry would have ten each to lead the Saints. As for the Cardinals, Imani Walcott would lead all scorers with 19 points, and they would fall to 2-2 on the season. They will be back in action Saturday against Clarkson. Gallery

NCAA Division III Women's Basketball: Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic Day 2: Castleton State Spartans Vs Potsdam State Bears November 16th 2024

Potsdam State's Emily Trepannier (10) draws the contact from Castleton State's Maggie McKearin (12) as she would raise for the shot. It would be the second day of the Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic, and the opening game would be a matchup between Little East Conference and SUYAC foes as the Potsdam Stae Bears would take on the Castleton State Spartans. The game would start low scoring as they were feeling each other out, as the Bears would have a slim 10-8 lead after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, the offenses for both teams would start to get in a rhyme in the early season contest as the Bears would win the quarter 20-12 and take the 30-20. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Bears would stay hot and win the quarter 16-11 and take the 46-31 lead into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play even throughout, and the Spartans would have the slim win of 14-13, but it would not be enough as the Bears would get the 59-45 victories. In the winning effort for the Bears, Xy'el Bradford would lead the way with 19 points as they went to 2-2 on the season. As for the Spartans, they would have players with 11 points in the game as they go to 1-2 in the season. Gallery
