A full regulation game and two overtimes were insufficient to separate the Plattsburgh Hornets and Beekmantown Eagles in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys soccer on Halloween. A game that saw both teams generate many scoring opportunities ended in a 1-1 draw in Beekmantown. The action began quickly, as Beekmantown's Zachary Dubrey scored just 20 seconds after kickoff off an assist from Dalton Kane. The Hornets responded quickly, tying the score just 4 minutes later with a free kick by senior Ryan Kavanaugh. PHS nearly took the lead a minute later, as junior Jack Ferris saw his close-range shot stopped by the Eagles' starting goalkeeper, Rocco Golden. The Hornets enjoyed most of the possession in the first half, helped in part by the fact that they were attacking with the wind at their backs, but the Eagles had their fair share of opportunities on the counterattack. In the 29th minute, a PHS corner was cleared by the Beekmantown defense and the ball fell to Dubrey near midfield. Dubrey beat two defenders en route to the goal, forcing a diving save out of goalkeeper Jackson Ryan. Just two minutes later, a long ball up the field by the Eagles turned into another chance, as Dubrey used his speed to win the race to the ball and get a shot off. In the second half, the Eagles switched to Victor Mason in net, who was up to the challenge. The remainder of the game saw both team exchange goal scoring chances several times, but neither team could find the back of the net. In the end, the teams settled for a tie in a tense, physical affair. Gallery

It would be a classic match this time though in the playoffs as the #2 Beekmantown Eagles would host the #3 Peru Indians in the Class B Semmi-Finals. Peru would get the first score of the game at 8:58 of the first quarter on a 30 yard fumble recovery to make it 7-0. The game would stay there til the 4th quarter when the Beekmantown Eagles would take the 21-14 lead on a 25 yard quarterback keeper from Brandon Belrose. The Indians would march right back down and score on a 10 yard pass to Robert Reynolds although they would miss the extra point to make it 21-20 with 8 minutes left. Then from that point on the game would get very questionable as there was alot of very questionable calls that would go against Beekmantown. With that going on the Indians would get the eventual game winning score with 1:50 left in the game on Kasen Brennan 12 yard run for the 26-21 victory. In the winning effort the Peru Indians go to 2-6 and have a date with the Plattsburgh Hornets for the Class B Championships and the Beekmantown Eagles season comes to a end at 4-4. Gallery

Beekmantown’s Andrew Sorrell cuts to the middle under pressure from Plattsburgh defender Kurt Oullette in the Section VII boys’ basketball Class B semifinals at Clinton Community College. The margins were tight in the Section VII boys' basketball Class B semifinal Saturday at Clinton Community College, where the Eagles were 43-42 winners over Plattsburgh High School. A back-and-forth first half saw Beekmantown go into the halftime break with a 6-point lead, but it was the second half where the fireworks began. The Eagles picked up the pace in the third quarter, building a 13-point lead, but the Hornets responded in kind in the fourth quarter. Having closed the gap, Plattsburgh's Ian DeTulleo put away a shot with 54 seconds on the clock to take the late lead. Beekmantown's Nate Finley was awarded a pair of free throws on the immediate next possession, making one tie the game at 42. The Hornets could have retaken the lead with only 6 seconds left in the game, but the layup by Dylan Garrant missed, giving the Eagles the final possession. Beekmantown junior Ian-James McCasland collected the rebound and took it up the court, but he was fouled by Liam Perkins near half-court. With the Eagles already in the double bonus, that gave McCasland a pair of free-throws to take the lead with 3.1 seconds left. He missed the first but struck gold with the second attempt. McCasland then ensured the win by intercepting the in-bounds pass near the sideline. With his momentum going out of bounds, he lofted the ball into the air with nearly 2 seconds on the clock, ensuring time would expire before it fell back down. The tight contest saw only two players - Finley for Beekmantown and Garrant for Plattsburgh - hit double-digit scoring, with each reaching 11 points on the night. With the victory, the Eagles advanced to the Section VII Class B championship game, Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse, where they will face the top-seeded Chiefs from Saranac.
