Gouverneur's (24) with the leaping catch on the wheel play for the first down. It would be the opening Round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Football Tournament and it would feature the #14 Saranac Spartans hosting the #18 Gouverneur Wildcats from Plattsburgh High School in the North Country Super Bowl for the right to head to the quarterfinals and meet up with a team from Section II. It would be a defensive first half and the teams would be looking for the first score of the game. The Spartans would break through with the first score of the game with 28 seconds left in the half on the Zander Daniels 7-yard pass strike to give the Spartans the 7-0 lead as they ended the first half. The game would stay there till the opening minute of the fourth quarter when Nathan Hamel would hit a 32-yard field goal to take the 10-0 lead. The Wildcats would get on the board finally at the 5:37 mark of the quarter on the Raine Rumble 3-yard pass and make it a 10-7 game. The Wildcats would keep fighting and capture the lead with 20 seconds left in the game on Raine Rumble's 11-yard pass and score. Although the Spartans wouldn't go quietly as they would have a chance to force overtime on a 40-yard field goal attempt it came up short. With the win the Gouverneur Wildcats advance to the quartersfinals next week and go to 8-1 on the season while the Spartans season will come to an end at 8-2. Gallery

Gouverneur's Raine Rumble (4) with the catch and score from 11 yards to give the Wildcats the lead. It would be the opening Round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Football Tournament and it would feature the #14 Saranac Spartans hosting the #18 Gouverneur Wildcats from Plattsburgh High School in the North Country Super Bowl for the right to head to the quarterfinals and meet up with a team from Section II. It would be the second game of the championship Saturday from Ausable Valley as this time it would be the Section VII Class B championship as it would be the classic rivalry with the #1 Peru Nighthawks and the #2 Beekmantown Eagles for the right to head to the NYSPHSAA Class B Tournament. It would start out like a lot of these classic games with hard-hitting and tight defense. The Nighthawks would finally break through for the first score of the game on a 23-yard pass and catch to Trenten Taylor to give the Nighthawks the 7-0 lead with 2 minutes left in the half and that is how the first half would end. The game would stay there till the 5:38 mark of the third quarter when Zack Engstrom would score from 5 yards out to make it a 14-0 game. Then with just over six minutes left in the game, the Nighthawks would take control of the game on Zack Engstrom's second score of the game this time from 40 yards out, and secure the 20-0 lead and win. With the win the Nighthawks go to 8-1 on the season and will take on the Gouvenor Wildcats in the opening round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament. The Saranac Spartans are crowned the 2023 Section VII Class C Champions. It would be the first championship of championship Saturday from Ausable Valley High School as the #17 (#1) Saranac Spartans would take on the #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm for the Section VII Class C Championships. The Spartans would jump out to the lead just 2:13 into the game on a 25-yard run by Landen Smith to give the Spartans the 7-0 lead. The Spartans would stay on the gas and extend their lead to 15-0 on a 2-yard run by Nathan Hamel. Then with just 1:12 left in the quarter, Nathan Hamel would score again this time from 18 yards out, and give the Spartans the 22-0 lead as the first quarter would come to an end. In the second quarter, the Spartans would stay on the gas as they would score two more times this time from Conner Burns and Alex Clancey, and give the Spartans the 36-0 lead as they headed into the locker room. When the teams returned for the second half it was looking like the first half again as the Spartans would score just 4:35 into the half on a 6-yard run by Haiden Blair to give the Spartans the 43-0 lead. The Red Storm would get on the board with a 12-yard passing touchdown with 1:20 left in the third quarter to make it a 43-6 game. However, the Red Storm would not just be happy with avoiding the shutout as they would score again with 4 minutes left in the game on the Evan Willett running score to make it 43-12 game. With that, the Saranac Spartans would hold onto the win and advance to the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and will be in action next week against Section X's Gouvenour Wildcats in the opening round on November 10th. It would be the Section VII Class D Championship from the Beekmantown High School as the #8 (#1) Moriah Vikings would take on the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots for the right to go to the NYSPHAA Class D Tournament. The game would start off well for the Vikings as they would score just 3:50 into the game on a five-yard run by Evan Fleury to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead. The Vikings would stay on the gas and score just under four minutes later this time on a 2 yard run by Evan Fluery to extend their lead to 14-0. Then in the final 30 seconds in the first quarter, the Vikings would strike again this time from 34 yards and Evan Fluery would score again for his three score of the quarter to give the Vikings the 22-0 lead. The Vikings would slow down some and get just one score in the quarter on a 68-yard scramble to give the Vikings the 30-0 lead as the team went into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Vikings would lighten up and there would only be one score on a 25-yard pass to Luke Smith to give the Vikings the 37-0 lead and the win. In the winning effort, the Vikings go to 7-2 on the season and will enter the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament and take on the winner of Section II on November 17th. It would be the lone Section VII playoff game of the weekend as the #2 Beekmantown Eagles would host crosstown rival the #3 Plattsburgh Hornets for the right to take on the #1 Peru Nighthawks for the Section VII Class B Finals next week at Ausable Valley. The game would start off great for the Eagles as they would take a 7-0 lead just 2:30 into the game on a 65-yard strike to Josh Sands. The Eagles would keep the offense going as they would score again on their next drive to take the 14-0 lead. The Hornets would show some life halfway through the first quarter on a 72-yard scramble by Dan Hartman to cut the deficit to 14-6. Although the Eagles would regain their two-score lead at 21-6 on the 36-yard run by Louis Sweenor and that's how the first quarter would end. The Eagles would keep on the gas and score just 3 minutes into the second quarter on the 1-yard run by Peyton Viau and take the 28-6 lead. The Hornets would keep fighting and as time was nearing the end of the half Dominic Deangelo would return a pick 6 interception 95 yards to make it a two-score game again at 29-12 at the half. When the teams return for the second half the Eagles would pick up where they left off with a 8-yard run by Parker Broughton to give them a 35-12 lead just 5 minutes into the half. Then with 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Eagles would make a 28-yard field goal from Patrick Hagadorn for the 38-12 lead. The game would stay there till about three minutes left when Shamus Bibeau would score from 8 yards out for the 44-12 victory.
