Eighht Layer Great Northern Shootout Semi-Finals: #11 Norwich Cadets Vs Middlebury Panthers

Norwich's Brady Harroun (22) with the tap at the night got by the Panthers goalie for the score. It would be the return of the Great Northern Shootout this time brought to you by Layer Eight and the opening game of the tournament would see the battle of Vermont as the #11 Norwich Cadets would take on instate rival the Middlebury Panthers at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The game would start off well for the Cadets as they would get the early 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the game on Holden Doggett's goal. Then inside the final two minutes of the period, the Cadets would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Brady Harroun goal. The Cadets would start to take control of the game as they would extend the lead to 3-0 on the powerplay goal six minutes into the second period on the Cooper Bertrand goal. The Panthers would answer right back 17 seconds later on the goal from Andrej Hromic to get the game back to a two-goal game at 3-1. The Cadets would retake the three-goal lead with just over two minutes left in the period on the Patrick O'Neal powerplay goal to make it a 4-1 game. In the third period, the Cadets would seal the game away on three unanswered goals from Clark Kerner, Joe Nagle, and Devon Thibodeau as they would secure the 7-1 win. In the winning effort, Sami Molu would make 17 saves as they go to 5-2-1 on the season and will take on the winner of the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the St Olaf Oels in the championship of the Great Northern Shootout. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would have a single home game on the weekend as they would have Williams Ephs from NESCAC as a yearly non league match up come to the Ronald B Stafford ice Arena. It would be physical and evenly matched game throughout with both teams looking for the upper hand in the match. It would take all the way till there was 3:30 left in the second period before we would have are first goal on the night and it would come from Plattsburgh State's Bennett Stockdale to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. That is where the game would remain until the final minute of the game when Bennett Stockdale would seal the game away with the empty netter to give the Cardinals the 2-0 win in front of 1,100 fans. In the winning effort Eli Shiller would make 26 saves in the shutout victory as the Cardinals go to 11-4-2 on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend as they will head back into conference play as they will meet up with Oswego and Cortland. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Bennett Stockdale slides in on net using the defender as buffer as he would be lone the scorer on the evening. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would have a single home game on the weekend as they would have Williams Ephs from NESCAC as a yearly non league match up come to the Ronald B Stafford ice Arena. It would be physical and evenly matched game throughout with both teams looking for the upper hand in the match. The first half would not go the way the home Cardinals were hoping for as they would be trailing the Panthers 47-34. In the second half, the Cardinals would do their best to try and keep it close but the Panthers would just do too much on this day as they would win the half 35-27 and secure the 82-61 for the Panthers. In a losing effort for the Cardinals, Kevin Tabb would have a team night 11 points as they would fall to 1-8 on the season with the next tilt after the New Year against the Clarkson Golden Knights. It would be the last game before the winter break for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would host long-time competitor the Middlebury Panthers. The game would start off close but the Cardinals would be behind by a score of 20-13. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would do their best to keep the game close but the Panthers would win the quarter 21-17 and have a 41-30 lead at the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarter the Cardinals would stay in the fight but the Panthers would pull away by a little more with a 22-16 quarter and the Panthers would lead 63-46 heading into the fourth. Once again in the fourth, the Cardinals would stay close but the Panthers win by a slim 18-14 to give the Cardinals the 81-60 lose. In the losing effort, Mya Smith would lead the Cardinals with 24 points as they fall to 3-6 on the season while Alexa Mustafa. would lead the Panthers to the win with 24 points. Gallery

The game would start off close but the Cardinals would be behind by a score of 20-13. It would be a matchup of two evenly matched teams as it would take till the start of the second period for the opening goal of the game from the Gulls just 17 seconds into the period from Quin Healy. That is where the game would stay till the 1:09 mark of the third period when the Panthers would get an equalizer from Cat Appleyard. The Panthers would stay on the gas and take the 2-1 lead on the Madie Ledt goal at the 10:01 mark and that is where the game would finish. In the winning effort, the Panthers go to 5-0 and be crowned the 2021 Cardinal/Panther Classic Champion while the Endicott Gulls fall to 7-2 on the season. Gallery.

#2 Middlebury Panthers Vs #5 Elmira Soaring Eagles NCAA Women's Hockey Cardinal/Panthers Classic Semi-finals November 27th 2021

Middlebury's Cat Appleyard (8) and Elmira's Sydney Harris (28) battle for the puck behind the net. It would be the second semi-finals game of the Cardinal/Panther Classic and would feature a battle of top 5 teams as the #2 Middlebury Panthers would faceoff with longtime foe the #5 Elmira Soaring Eagles. It would be a matchup between a couple of very evenly matched foes as all the scoring would come in the second period of the game. The Eagles would get the opening goal of the game at the 9:37 mark of the period on the powerplay from Mary McCafferty. Although the Panthers would have an answer coming as they would score at the 15:56 mark on the Kylie Quinlan goal to make it 1-1. Forty seconds later the Panthers would get the lead on the Madie Ledt goal for the 2-1 lead. From there the defenses would step up on both sides and the Panthers would hold on for the 2-1 victory. In the winning effort, the Panthers go to 4-0 on the season as Sophia Meragaes would make 29 saves and head to the finals against the Endicott Gulls. While the Soaring Eagles suffer their first loss of the season behind a 32 save night by Leonie Kuehberger. Gallery.
