Potsdam State Bears @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 12th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Lilla Nease (31) with the pad save on Potsdam State's Kaylee Merrill (17) as she broke in on the net as part of a 17 save performance. The Plattsburgh State's would finish off a two-game home series with North Country foe the Potsdam State Bears in NEWHL action. The Cardinals would start off good as they would get two goals in the first five minutes of the game from Annie Katonka and Mae Olshansky for the quick 2-0 lead. Then with six minutes left in the first period on the Emily Dellaneve to make it a 2-1 game. Then just 90 seconds later the Cardinals would regain their two-goal lead at 3-1 on Annie Katonka's second goal of the period. That is where the game would stay till there was 2:45 left in the second period when Annie Katonka would finish off her hat trick game and make it a 4-1 Cardinals game. In the third period, the Cardinals would once again start off fast with two goals in the first five minutes from Erin McArdle and Ivy Boric to make it a 6-1 game. Then halfway through the period, the Bears would add their second goal of the game on the powerplay from Megan Teachout to make it a 6-2. Then with just under six minutes left in the game, the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake with a goal from Tatem Cheney to secure the 7-2 win. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 17 saves on the day as they go to 19-2-1 on the season as they head into their game against Canton on February 15th. Gallery
Brockport State Golden Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 12th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Brinley Inglee (14) with the floater as she drives to the paint as part of a six-point night. It would be the final regular-season home game for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would host the Brockport State Golden Eagles in SUNYAC Women's Basketball action. The game would not start off the greatest for the home Cardinals as the Golden Eagles would jump out to a 14-9 through the first quarter of the game. Then in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles started to pull away with a 21-14 quarter and take a 35-23 lead into the locker room. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Golden Eagles would really start to put the game away with a 13-1 quarter and take a 48-24 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles would put the final touches on the game with an 11-7 quarter and finish off the Cardinals with a 59-31 victory. As the Cardinals would fall to 7-16 on the season and Hope Sullivan would lead the way for the Cardinals with eight points. Gallery
Geneseo State Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 11th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Franklin Infante (22) with the three from the corner as part of a seven-point night. It would be the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Geneseo Knights in Men's SUNYAC Basketball action from the Plattsburgh State Memorial Hall. It would be a tight game throughout with both teams having their chance to breakout but just couldn't and the Knights would have the slim 37-35 lead at the end of the first half. When the teams returned for the second half it would be more of the same although the Knights would just be a little better with a 28-27 half and secure the 65-62 victory. Leading the way in a losing effort for the Cardinals would be Etik Salo with 18 points as they go to 2-20 on the season. Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 11th 2022
Beekmantown's Payton Parliament (13) breaks in and gets fouled by Plattsburgh's Bailey Hewson (10) as she drives to the hoop for the score. We would have a crosstown Champlain Valley Athletic Conference game as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host 8-0 lead. In the second quarter rival the Beekmantown Eagles. The game would start off great for the visiting Eagles as they would have shutout first quarter at 8-0 Eagles. In the second quarter, it would be more of the same as the Eagles did their best to keep the shutout and have an impressive 16-2 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter from the break they would bring their offensive's as the Eagles would win the quarter and take a 28-12 lead into the fourth and final quarter. In that fourth quarter, the teams would be all equal with an 11-11 quarter for the 39-23 victory. In the winning effort, the Eagles go to 10-9 while the Hornets fall to 6-11 on the season. Gallery
Geneseo State Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 11th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Ruberto Hannah (30) slides around the defender and scoops it up for the shot as part of a four-point night. It would be a matchup at Plattsburgh State's Memorial Hall as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Geneseo State Knights in Women's SUNYAC Basketball action. It would be a low-scoring slow start to the game as the visiting Knights would have the 9-6 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the offensive would start to come and the Cardinals would lead the quarter 13-8 and take the slim 19-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter it would be the same the defenses would be on display with the Knights winning the quarter 15-12 and taking the slim 32-31 lead into the final quarter. In that final quarter, the Knights would just shut down the Cardinals with a 13-3 quarter and win the game 45-34. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 7-15 on the season as Kayla Doddy would lead the way with ten points and they are back in action February 12th against the Brockport State Eagles. Gallery
Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers @ Beekmantown Eagles February 10th 2022
Beekmantown's Cooper Burdo (8) with the backhanded shot as he cuts in front of the net for the goal. It would be the third matchup of the season between the last members of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference title game as the Beekmantown Eagles would host the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers. The game would start off good for the home Eagles as they would get the opening goal of the game at the 5:41 mark of the first period from Sam Bingel. Although just over two minutes later the Lakers would get the equalizer from Noah Munn to tie the game at one. Then with just over three minutes left in the period, the Eagles would retake the lead at 2-1 on the shorthanded goal from Cooper Burdo to end the first period. Then just 2:44 into the second period would get their first two-goal lead of the night on the Reagan Dudyak goal at 3-1. The Lakers would keep fighting and get the game back to 3-2 at the 4:14 mark on the Jon Kratts goal. The Eagles would reclaim their two-goal lead at 4-2 on the Louis Sweenor powerplay goal. Although with just about 3:30 left in the period Lakers would bring it back to 4-3 on the goal from Hugo Hobson on the two-man advantage to end the scoring in the second period. Then in the third period, the Eagles would put the finishing touches on the game as they would light the lamp three times from Sam Bingel (second of the night), Zachary Lapier, and Anthony Marion to secure the 7-4 victory. Next up for the Eagles will be a meeting with the Saranac Chiefs on February 12th. Gallery
Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 8th 2022
Beekmantown's Austin Dosier (31) with the save as Plattsburgh Hayden Colburn (20) comes crashing into the net as part of a 15 save night for the shutout win. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference between crosstown foes as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Beekmantown Eagles at the Ameri-can Arena. It would be a hard-hitting affair from the beginning and with that, the Eagles would get on the board first at the 12:15 mark of the first period on the Luke Moser goal. The game would stay there till the last 45 seconds period when Zachary LaPier would break in and score to extend the lead to 2-0. When the teams return for the second period it would be more of the same with the lone goal of the period coming from Quinn Brandell with 4:02 left to make it a 3-0 Eagles lead/ In the third period the Eagles would keep up the pressure and extend the lead to 4-0 at the 11:10 mark on the DJ Gonyo goal. Then to leave no doubt in the outcome they would add one more from James Burnham with under three minutes left to secure the 5-0 win and in that winning effort, Austin Dosier would stop all 15 shots for the shutout victory. Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Peru Nighthawks February 8th 2022
Northeastern Clinton's Brayden Monette (22) would break in and lay the ball off the window for two points on the night. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference tilt as the host Peru Nighthawks would take on the Northeastern Clinton Cougars on a senior night for Peru. Although the seniors were honored before the game it would not be meant to be on this night as the Cougars would have a 25-19 lead at the half despite the best efforts by Nighthawks. When the teams would return for the second half the Nighthawks would try their best to stay in the game but the Cougars would have a 28-13 quarter and cruise to the 53-32 win. In the winning effort for the Cougars, Gillbo and Manor would lead the way 12 points as they go to 7-11 on the season. As for the Nighthawks, Samuel Godfrey would have a game of 17 points but it wouldn't be enough as they fall to 2-15 on the season. Gallery
Schroon Lake Wildcats @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 7th 2022
Schroon Lake's (14) with the three from the wing to help her team take the lead. It would be an interconference game this even as the Schroon Lake Wildcats from the Mountain Valley Conference would travel to Plattsburgh and take on the Hornets from the Champlain Valley Conference. The game would start off great for the road Wildcats as they would jump out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would start to get their legs and shut down the Wildcats with an 8-3 quarter although they would still trail 18-13 at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the teams would be fairly evenly matched as the Hornets would win slightly 13-11 with the Wildcats still leading 29-27 as they headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would start to run out of gas and the wildcats would get 14-9 quarter and a 43-36 victory. In the winning effort, the Wildcats go to 10-4 while the Hornets fall to 6-10 on the season. Gallery
Fredonia State Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 5th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Joey Mancuso (13) with the goal as he cuts across the front of the net and gets knocked to the ice as the puck crosses the line. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would come into the night looking for the sweep of western new york as they would host the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC Men's Hockey action. In the opening period of the game, the Cardinals would have an offensive outburst with five goals Joey Mancuso (twice), Jake Lanyl, Trey Thomas, and Bennet Stockdale. While the Blue Devils would do their best to keep it honest with a goal by Parker Brakebill for a 5-1 game after the first period. In the second period, the Cardinals would keep hitting as they would get two more from Brendan Young and Trey Thomas second of the night for a 7-1 game headed into the third. In that third period, there would be no stopping the Cardinals as they would have another outburst this time for 6 goals from Christian Difelice, Mitchell Hale, Jale Lanyl (second of the game), Jack Ring, Adam Tretowicz, Joey Mancuso to complete his hat trick and secure the 13-1 win. In the winning effort, the Cardinals would have their biggest win since 1998 and go to 13-7-3 on the season as they will be on the road next weekend. Gallery
