#4 Potsdam State Bears @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals NEWHL Women's Hockey Semi-Finals March 1st 2022

Plattsburgh State's Sara Krauseneck (25) with the short side attempt at the goal as part of a two-goal night. It would be the start of the playoff season at the Ronald B Stafford Arena as the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #4 Potsdam State Bears in the semi-finals of the NEWHL Championship. The home Cardinals would start the game fast and furious in front of the near 400 fans with three goals in the first four minutes of the game from Sara Krauseneck, Ivy Boric, and Annie Katonka and lead 3-0 after the first period. In the second the Cardinals would not let off the throttle as they would light the lamp three more times from Sara Krauseneck (second of the night), Nicole Unsworth, and Annie Katonka (second of the night) and have a 6-0 lead after the second period. In the third period, the Cardinals would add a couple more goals to put the icing on the cake from Kaitlin Drew-Mead and Tatem Cheney and secure the 8-0 win. In the winning effort, Chloe Beaubien would make 25 saves in the shutout victory as they advance to the NEWHL Championship against the Cortland State Red Dragons. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball Class B Semi-finals #4 Beekmantown Eagles @ #1 Saranac Chiefs Februarry 26th 2022

Beekmantown's Grace McCasland (3) with the three from the top of the arc to keep her team in the fight. It would be the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class B Semi-finals as the #1 Saranac Chiefs would host the #4 Beekmantown Eagles for the right to play in the finals next Saturday, March 5th at Clinton Community College. The game would start off good for the top-seeded Chiefs as they would have the 16-9 lead after the first quarter. The Chiefs would continue to pull away through the second quarter but the Eagles would do their best to keep it close with a 10-6 Chiefs quarter and 26-15 lead at the break. When the teams would come back for the third quarter the Eagles would come soaring back with a 25-16 quarter making it a slim 42-40 lead for the Chiefs as they headed into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Chiefs shut down defense would return with a 17-4 quarter and end up cruising to the 59-44 win. In the winning effort, they will advance to the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference championship march at Clinton Community College on March 5th against Northeastern Clinton Cougars. Gallery

#5 Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ #1 Saranac Chiefs Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball Class B Semi-Finals February 26th 2022

Northeastern Clinton's Darren Dubois (23) with the contested shot over Saranac's Justin Bedard (0) for the basket to keep his team in the front early. It would be game number 2 on the day for Saranac High School as the #1 Saranac Chiefs would host the #5 Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class B Semi-Finals and take on the winner of #2 Plattsburgh Hornets and #3 Saranac Lake Red Storm in finals on March 5th at Clinton Community College. The upset-minded Cougars would be in good shape after the first quarter with a quick sprint to a 19-12 lead. In the second quarter, the Chiefs would start pulling them back in with a 15-p quarter and trail 28-27 at the intermission. The third quarter when the teams came back would be an even quarter with nine points each making it 37-36 game headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, some clinch defense by the Cougars would lead to an 18-13 quarter and a 55-49 win for the Cougars. In the winning effort, the #5 Northeastern Clinton Cougars have earned a surprise spot in the championship against the #2 Plattsburgh Hornets at Clinton Community College. Gallery

SUNYAC's Men's Hockey Quarterfinals #6 Brockport State Golden Eagles @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 26th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Ryan Hogg (19) with the scramble goal in front of the net to get the Cardinals one the board with 5 minutes left in the first period. The game would start off good for the underdog Golden Eagles as they would get the opening goal of the game from Connor Galloway at the 4:49 mark of the first period. The Cardinals would fight back and get the tying goal at the 13:24 mark from Ryan Hogg. The tie would be short-lived as Connor Galloway would strike again with his second goal of the game just two minutes later to regain the lead at 2-1. Just 1:44 into the second period the Golden Eagles would make it a two-goal game at 3-1 on the powerplay goal by Andrew Harley. From there the Cardinals would take control of the period with five goals in a ten-minute span from Christian DiFelice (twice), Carson Gallagher, Trey Thomas, Thomas Maia and make it a 6-3 Cardinals game with three minutes left in the second period. In the third period just 3:42 into it, Golden Eagles would make it a 6-4 game on the Jacob King goal. Then in a 15-second span with 90 seconds left in the game, the Golden Eagles would score twice and force overtime on Anthony Hora's goal and Connor Galloway's powerplay goal to send it to overtime tied at six. In the overtime at 8:10, the comeback and upset would be complete at the 8:10 mark when Scott Ramaekers would find the back of the night for the 7-6 Golden Eagles win. In the loss for the Cardinals, their season comes to end at 15-8-3 while the Brockport State Golden Eagles head to the semi-finals and will faceoff with the #1 Geneseo Knights. Gallery

#3 Saranac Chiefs @ #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boys Hockey Semi-Finals February 24th 2022

Northeastern Clinton's Reid LaValley (2) comes in on the break and flips it over Saranac's Mason Patnode for the goal and 1-0 lead. It would be semi-finals boys hockey in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars would host the #3 Saranac Chiefs. The game would start off quick for the home Cougars as they would get the opening goal of the game from Reid LaValley for the 1-0 lead. Although the Chiefs would answer back fast and furious as they would answer back with three goals of their own in the next few minutes from Caitlin, Hayden Buckley, and Zack O'Connell and take the 3-1 to the end of the period. In the second period, there would be no scoring although it wouldn't be for the lack of trying and the Chiefs would keep their 3-1 lead as they head to the third. The game was starting to look like the Chiefs were going to the upset win but at 2:24 left in the game, the Cougars would make it a one-goal game at 3-2 Reid LaValley. Then with 1:27 left the Cougars would tie the game up on the Ryan Racine goal and from there the game would go to overtime. In the overtime, the Cougars would come all the way back and get the win at 4-3 on the Chase Letourneau with 3:38 left in the overtime. With the win, the #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars are headed to championship Gallery

#5 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers @ #4 Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valey Athletic Conference Boys Hockey Play in Game February 22nd 2022

Plattsburgh's Hayden Colburn (20) and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid's captain battle for the puck along theside boards for control. It would be the start of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey playoffs and it would begin with the play in-game as the #4 Plattsburgh Hornets would host the #5 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles in the semi-finals on February 24th. The upset-minded Lakers would get the opening goal of the game just 3:02 into the game from Brady Tremblay for the 1-0 lead. The Hornets would keep up the fight and tie the game at the 6:38 mark of the period on the Bostyn Duquette goal. and that is where the first period would end. In the second period, the Hornets would take the lead at 2-1 at the 3:41 mark of the second period on the Hayden Colburn goal. The game from there would get very physical til the end of the game the Lakers would have many good opportunities to get the equalizer but just couldn't get there. In the closing seconds of the game, the Hornets would add the empty netter from Drew Knowles to secure the 3-1 victory. In the winning effort, Ty Calkins would make 20 saves as the Hornets advance to the Semi-finals of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and face off with the #1 Beekmantown Eagles Gallery

Buffalo State Bengals @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Women's Hockey February 18th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Ivy Boric (19) setup for the one-timer goal and get the lead in the game. It would be the start of the last weekend of the regular season as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Buffalo State Bengals in a pair of games in NEWHL action. The game would start off close as the teams would be felling each other out and the lone goal of the first period as IVY Boric would score at the 15:17 mark. In the second period, the Cardinals would start to pull away as they would get three goals in the period from Taylor Whitney and Annie Katonka (twice) and take a 4-0 lead into the third period. In the third period, the dam would break and the Cardinals would flood the net with five goals from Sara Krauseneck, Mattie Norton, Taylor Whitney (twice and third of the night), and Riley Calhoun to secure the 9-0 win. In the winning effort, Chloe Beaubien would make seven saves for the shutout as they go to 21-2-1 on the season. Gallery

Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball February 18th 2022

Plattsburgh High School freshman Bailey Hewson attempts to cut into the middle through the defense of Northeastern Clinton's senior Elisabeth Prairie and sophomore Desiree Dubois. Northeastern Clinton rode a strong second and third quarter performance to a 49-29 victory over Plattsburgh High School Friday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.
Both teams got off to a slow start, with neither scoring before the midpoint of the opening quarter. The Hornets got on the board first with a pair of free throws from junior Calli Fitzwater, but it was the Cougars who ended the opening frame with a 9-5 lead.
Northeastern Clinton pulled away in the second, led by a nine-point quarter for sophomore Desiree Dubois.
The score at the halftime break saw the Cougars with a 21-9 lead. Plattsburgh junior Cora Long put up nine points of her own in the third quarter, but the Hornets were never able to pull back the Cougars' lead.
Dubois led Northeastern Clinton's offense with 20 points, ahead of 13 points from sophomore Bailee Lafountain. Long's 16 points led the Hornets in the loss, followed by Fitzwater with 6 points.
Both Dubois and Long knocked down four shots each from the three-point arc. Gallery

Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Beekmantown Eagles Boys Hockey February 17th 2022

Northeastern Clinton's Ryan Raccine (10) breaks in on Beekmantown's Austin Doser (31) and beats him on the goal. It would be senior night at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse as the Beekmantown Eagles would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action in what might be a preview of the championship that will be held in ten days. It wouldn't take long for the home Beekmantown Eagles to get on the board as they would light the lamp at the 2:49 mark of the first period on the Anthony Marion goal for the 1-0 lead and that's how the first period would end. Then at the 4:40 mark of the second period, Ryan Racine would come in the breakaway and beat the goalie, and tie the game at 1. Then about halfway through the second period the Eagles would come back and regain the 1 goal lead on the Zachary Lapier powerplay goal. That is where the game would stay still just under three minutes left in the game when the Eagles Keegan Rodier would shoot from the left faceoff circle and light the lamp and secure the 3-1 win. In the winning effort, the Beekmantown Eagles would secure the regular-season crown and the #1 seed in the upcoming playoffs and will wait for the winner of Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake-Lake Placid on February 24th. Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers @ Saranac Chiefs Champlain Valey Athletic Conference Boys Hockey February 14th 2022

Sranac'd )13) the shot on net as the begin the third period and secure 5-3. We would start the last week of the regular season in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference hockey season with a battle of the Saranac's as the Chiefs would host the Lakers. The game would start off evenly match as both teams were looking for an edge and the Chiefs would finally get it at the 13:52 mark as Landon Duprey would score on the powerplay to take the 1-0 lead. Then with just five seconds left in the period, the Chiefs would strike again and take the 2-0 lead on the Hayden Buckley goal. When the teams would come back for the second period the Chiefs would look to take a stranglehold on the game at 3-0 at 5:13 mark as Landon Duprey would get his second of the game. Then just over a minute later the Lakers would start to crawl their way back into the game as they would get on the board and make it a 3-1 game. Then just 30 seconds the Lakers would be able to make it a one-goal game at 3-2. Then at the 11:06 mark of the second period, the comeback would be complete as Bailey Bartholomew would strike to tie the game at three. Although the Chiefs would finally get an answer with just over a minute left in the period on Landon Duprey's hat trick goal to take the lead back at 4-3. The Chiefs would quickly regain their two-goal lead at 5-3 just 15 seconds into the third period as Landon Duprey would add his fourth goal of the game. The Lakers would throw everything they had it at throughout the rest of the period but the Chiefs would be up to the task and secure the 5-3 victory. Gallery
