Endicott Gulls Vs Elimira Soaring Eagles - W.B. Mason Winter Classic Semi-Finals - NCAA Division 3 Men's Hockey - January 3rd 2020

Elmira's Nick Ford (18) with the goal in front of the net as he is falling to ice. It would be the opening game of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic hosted by the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and would feature a matchup between the Endicott Gulls and the Elmira Soaring Eagles. The first period would take sometime to get going as there would be no scoring there would be three goals in 9 minutes. The Gulls would get two goals from James Winkler and Stev Kuxhynski as the Soaring Eagles would get a lone goal from Kale Kane and the Gulls would have a 2-1 lead after the first period. In the second period the offenses on both sides would be a scoring machine as they would combine for four goals in the period. Scoring for the Soaring Eagles would be Nick Ford and Marty Kaponian and for the Gulls it would be Luke Rogers and Bump Lisk as the Gulls would take a 4-3 lead into the final period. In the final period the Soaring Eagles would keep up the fight and win the period 2-1 and send the game to overtime. Scoring in the third period for the Soaring Eagles would be Stev Kunchynski and Matthew Cuce. In the overtime it was starting to look like we were headed to the shootout until Elmira's Nick Ford would rip one by the goalie to give the Soaring Eagles the 6-5 win in overtime. With the win the Soaring Eagles will head to the championship of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic against either host Plattsburgh State or Wentworth. Gallery.

Plattsburgh State's Jimmy Poreda with the stick saves as he closes down the post of one of his 29 saves on night. It would be the second semi-final game of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic and it would feature the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Wentworth Leopards. It would take the home Cardinals a bit to get going but they would end the first period on a hot streak with three goals in the final three minutes from Rich McCartney, Liam Lawson, and Joe Kile for a 3-0 lead. In the second period, the Cardinals would get a pair of goals to expand on there lead coming from Samir Abouelhana and Christian Dahl. While the Leopards would get a goal from Jake Hallisey to break up the shutout bid and make it a 5-1 game, In the third period the Cardinals would go into conservation mode and ride out the period to save energy for the finals tomorrow and give up one goal to Nate Chase and secure the 5-2. In the winning effort, Christian Dahl would lead the way with 2 points and Jimmy Poreda would have 29 saves as the Cardinals go to 4-6-1 on the season, The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow evening as they will play the Elmira Soaring Eagles in the finals of the W.B. The Elmira Soaring Eagles celebrate as they get the game winner with 13 seconds left in the overtime. It would be the opening game of the W.B. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC action in the home finale of the season. The game would be tight throughout and remain scoreless until 11:33 of the second period when the Blue Devils score to take a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would tie the game up with 4 minutes remaining left in the second period on Rich McCartney's goal. Then at the 3:40 mark of the third period, the Cardinals would score twice in 20 seconds to make it 3-1 on Jesse Nehr and Rich McCartney's goal. The Blue Devils would score at the 12-minute mark on a penalty shot to cut the lead in half at 3-2. Then in the closing minute of the game, Aryton Valente would score the empty netter to secure the 4-2 victory. In the winning effort, Lawson Fenton would make 37 saves as the Cardinals go to 12-11 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Liam Lawson (39) draws back and puts it in the top shelf for the Cardinal goal. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host SUNYAC foe Buffalo State Bengals in conference action. Mike Falanga would get the scoring going early as he would give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game. Although the game would stay like that until the 9:51 mark of the second period when Liam Lawson would score on the power play to make it 2-0. Then in the closing five minutes of the period the Bengals would score twice on the same power play to tie the game up heading into the final period. In the final period, the Bengals would take the lead on a goal in the final four minutes to make it 3-2 and would later add the empty netter to secure the 4-2 victory. In the losing effort Jimmy Peorda would make 35 stops as the Cardinals fall to 11-11 on the season. Gallery.
