The Lyon Mountain Miners would meet the Fourth Ward Athletics in the deciding game three of the semi-finals today at Lefty Wilson Field in Plattsburgh. The Miners would rake control early and not look back as they would get one in the first. Then come back with three more in the second inning. With the quick 4-0 lead, they would cruise through the rest of the game for the easy 7-1 victory and advance to the championship next weekend. In the winning effort, Dave Waldron would go the distance giving up one run while striking out five. Gallery

The Padres would take on the Fourth Ward Athletics in the 1st round of the Champlain Valley Baseball League. The game would be a pitchers duel as the Athletics would get the lone run in the game in the fourth inning for the win. For the Athletics Brain Burns would go the distance for the complete-game shutout win while giving up 4 hits. In just as good a game Padres Frank Brogna would get the complete game 6 hits on and one run. With the Athletics win, they will take the Lyon Mountain Miners in the semi-finals. Gallery

The only scoring in the game would come in the fourth inning of a two rbi double by Jeff Norton. The Padres would play stellar defense throughout the day to keep the shutout in tack. In the winning effort, Frank Brogna would strike out six while going the complete game for the win. With the win, Padres will be playinging the Lyon Mountain Miners in the best two out of three series for the championship.

Airborne Speedway's Zack Meyers (27) slides in head first at the plate and scores as the Athletics catcher loses the ball. The Airborne Speedway Padres would defeat Fourth Ward Athletics 10-2. The game would start at Saranac High School where they played the top of the first. Then the rains would come and cause an hour-long rain delay. Where the field was determined to be unplayable so the game was moved to South Acres in Plattsburgh. The game would remain close through the opening six with Padres getting singles runs in the 2nd, 4th and 5th and Athletics would get one in the third to make it 3-1. Then in late innings, the Padres bats would come alive getting 7 runs in the last three innings with the big blow coming from Joey Painter's three-run homer. With the win Padres advance to Semi-Finals where they will play either the Expos or Miners.

The Cardinals would jump out to an early 5-0 lead after the first two innings that they would never give up. They would get one in the first inning and then put up a four-spot in the second inning. The Miners would chip away at the lead by getting two in the third and fourth inning. The score would remain that until the seventh when the Cardinals would get an insurance run on a sacrifice fly tp take the lead 6-4. The Cardinals would hold that lead for the rest of the game and take game 1 of the best of three series. They will look to close out the championship next weekend at Bailey Avenue.
