The Airborne Speedway Padres would lose both games to the undeafted Lyon Mountain Miners 8-5 in game 1 and 12-6 in game two. It was a tough day out there for Padres that were fighting through extrication as they were losing players for different reasons throughout. The Padres would stay in both games until the late innings when the Miners would pull away with the loses the Padres fall to 2-10 and the Miners improve to 12-0.

Lyon Mountain's Scott Baker with the catch of the hot smashes down the line to rob a base hit. The Peabody Padres would host the Lyon Mountain in week four of the Champlain Valley Baseball League. In the first game of the twin bill, the Padres would score early and often getting two runs in the first off RBI singles by Mark Eggleston and Jeff Norton to make it 2-0. In the second inning, the bats would really come alive as they would score five runs with the big blow coming on Mark Eggleston's bases-clearing triple to make it 7-0. The score would stay there til the 6th when the Miners would get on the board on Riley Lawless RBI single to make it 7-1. Although at the bottom of the inning the Padres would add 5 more and close out the Miners with a 12-1 victory. In the winning effort, Matt Rivers would go the distance giving up 1 run on four hits while striking out four. While at the plate Mark Eggleston would go 3-4 with 2 RBI's. In the second game, it would be a pitchers duel as Padres Frank Brogna and Kris Chase. Although the Padres would get the lone two runs of the game in the fourth inning to secure the win and the sweep. In the winning effort, Frank Brogna would go the distance for the shutout victory while striking out nine. With the win, the Peabody Padres go to 5-1 while the Miners fall to 4-4 on the season.

The Lyon Mountain Miners would meet the Fourth Ward Athletics in the deciding game three of the semi-finals today at Lefty Wilson Field in Plattsburgh. The Miners would rake control early and not look back as they would get one in the first. Then come back with three more in the second inning. With the quick 4-0 lead, they would cruise through the rest of the game for the easy 7-1 victory and advance to the championship next weekend. Peabody's Matt Hart (15) with the pick at third down the line and fires across to complete the out. he Peabody Padres would travel to Lyon Mountain and have a doubleheader with the Miners to finish off the regular season of the CVBL season. The first game would go the way of the Miners as they would get the 4-0 win. The runs would come in the first and fifth as they would get two runs in each inning. In the winning effort for the Miners, Dave Waldron would go the distance to get the shutout victory while giving up just four hits. In the second game, it would be called after the fourth inning with the score tied at zero. The game will not be resumed as it makes no difference in the standings. With the playoffs starting next week the Miners will get a first-round bye with the regular-season title. The Padres will take on the A's in the 4/5 game in Plattsburgh. Gallery

The 2013 edition of the Champlain Valley Baseball League would get underway with a rematch of the championship from 2012 as the Peabody's Padres would host the Lyon Mountain Miners. In-game 1 of the doubleheader the Padres would take a 2-0 lead in the first. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Miners would come back and get 1 in the second. Then in the third and fourth the Miners would get 12 more runs thanks to some untimely errors by the Padres and game would be called after 5 at 13-3. Game two would be a lot more competitive game as the Padres would have a 5-3 lead entering the six and the Miners would get 1 run in the 6th and 7th to force extra innings tied at 5-5. Then on the 8th, the Miners would get three runs to secure the 8-5 victory. With the result of the opening week, the Miners are 2-0 while the Padres are 0-2. Gallery
