Canton's (17) beats Plattsburgh's Owen Pray (21) on the break for the goal. It would be the home opener and the first home game for the Hornets in over two seasons and they would have a conference game against the Canton Golden Bears. The game would not start off the greatest for the Hornets but they would stay in and only be down 3-1 after the first with the lone goal scorer for the Hornets being Declan Baker. In the second quarter, the defenses would stand tall on both sides as there would be no scoring in the quarter and the Bears would take the 3-1 lead into the break. Although when the teams returned for the third quarter the Bear's offense would come to life as they would explode for five in the quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, the Bears would have another 3-1 quarter with Declan Baker scoring again for the Hornets as the Bears would get the 11-2 win. In the winning effort, the Bears go to 2-1 on the season while Owen Pray would make 29 saves as the Hornets fall to 0-5 on the season. Gallery

New Paltz Hawks @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 15th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Andrew Veit (2) with the pick and fire from the hole at shortstop for the out at first. It would be the first game of a twin bill for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals from the Chip Cummings Field against the New Paltz Hawks in SUNYAC play. The game would remain scoreless until the third inning when Kyle Cremin would hit the RBI single to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. When the Hawks would get up next in the top of the 4th inning they would tie the game at one Ortiz's fielder choice. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals would regain the lead on Connor Gonzalski's rbi single and make it a 2-1 game. Once again the Hawks would answer right back in the 6th inning on another fielder's choice this time from Ascanio and tie the game at two. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals would retake the one-run lead on a solo home run by Kyle Cremin for the 3-2 lead. In the 8th inning, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the rbi single to center from Nck Cergol. In the ninth inning, the Hawks would try and make and come back and tie the game up but it fall short as they would only get one off a sac fly by Harvey and the Cardinals would hold on the four the 4-3 victory and they would get the sweep on the day with the 10-7 victory in game two. In the first game, Chris Samtic would scatter 9 hits over 7 and third innings giving up 2 runs as the Cardinals go to 9-14 on the season. The Plattsburgh State runner slides in safely ahead of the tag and extends the Cardinal's lead. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals Softball team would be in action this afternoon as they would have a nonconference doubleheader against the St Lawrence Saints at Cardinals Park. In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Cardinals would break the 3-3 tie on a pair of base hits from Golino and Diller to take the 5-3 lead. Then in the sixth inning, Cardinals Golno would hit a three-rbi double to give the Cardinals the 8-3 lead and the eventual victory. In the second game of the doubleheader in the fourth inning, the Cardinals would explode with five runs on three base hits from Palmer, Persampir, and Torres and take a 7-2 lead. In the sixth inning, the Saints would strike for two runs to make it an 8-4 game. Although in the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals would end the Saints thought of a comeback as the Cardinals would make it a five-run lead again on the Gonzales fielder's choice and secure the 9-4 victory. Cortland State Red Dragons @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 12th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Maddy Garcia (5) takes it around the corner and fires the shoot on the net. The Plattsburgh State Women's Lacrosse team would be back in action at the Field House as they would host #19 in the country and fellow SUNYAC foe the Cortland State Red Dragons as they would try to end their four-game losing streak. Although the game would not start off the greatest for the Cardinals as they would behind 4-1 after the first quarter getting the lone goal for the Cardinals would be Lindsay Guzzetta while Hopsicker, Janis Hoffner, and Beck would score for the Red Dragons. In the second quarter, the Red Dragons would show their strength as they would score six times for the 6-1 quarter and the Cardinals would trail 10-2 at the intermission as Kate Kennedy would get the lone Cardinal goal of the quarter. When the teams returned for the second half it would be more of the same as the Red Dragons would have another 6-1 quarter and take a 16-3 lead into the 4th quarter as Lindsay Guzzetta would get her second goal of the game. In the 4th quarter with the game no longer in doubt, the teams would play it out for the Red Dragons 3-2 scoring for the Cardinals would be Lindsay Guzzetta (a third of the game) and Cynthia Barnosky. With that, the Cardinals would lose 19-5 and fall to 5-6 on the season as their next game will be this weekend as they travel to Oswego and take on the Lakers in SUNYAC action. Gallery

We would have a little Non-Conference men's lacrosse action as Plattsburgh State from the SUNYAC would host the unbeaten Clarkson Golden Knights from the Liberty League from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Soccer Complex. The first quarter would start off well for the Cardinals as they would stay in contact with the Golden Knights and only trail 3-2 after the quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Michael Swift and John Eiseman. At the same time, it would be Andrew Kearney, Connor Matthews, and Thomas Fiebich for the Golden Knights. Although in the second quarter, the Golden Knights would pull away with a 5-1 quarter on goals from Tyler Hall, Christian Canino, Bryan Penney, Alex Seiler, and Matt Reilly while getting the lone goal for the Cardinals would be John Eiseman (second of the game) to give the Golden Knights 8-3 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be no better for the Cardinals as they would get shutout 5-0 with Golden Knights goals from Matt Reilly (second of the game), Connor Matthews (second and third of the game), Logan Wilkinson and Alex Seiler (second of the game) as the Golden Knights would have the 13-3 lead as they enter the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter with the outcome already determined the Cardinals would get the two lone goals of the quarter both coming from Owen Lorenzetti as the Golden Knights would get the 13-5 win. In the winning effort, the Golden Knights would stay undefeated at 7-0 as the Golden Knights netminders would combine for ten saves on the day. The Cardinals would lose and fall to 2-5 on the season and Dan Clements would make 14 saves. ECAC Tournament Championship: #2 Harvard Crimson Vs #5 Colgate Red Raiders March 18th 2023

The Colgate Red Raiders would be crowned the 2023 Whitelaw Cup champion as they would win the ECAC Hockey Tournament for the first time since 1990. It was time for the 2023 ECAC Hockey Championship. It would feature the powerhouse #2 seeded Harvard Crimson and the upstart and #5 seeded Colgate Red Raiders as they batt for this year's edition of the Whitelaw Cup at the Olympic Center Lake Placid in front of 3839 fans. The Red Raiders would come out firing as they were looking for the upset as Colton Young would get them on the board just 1:01 into the game with the powerplay goal. The game would stay there till the 12:47 mark of the period when brother Alex Young would give the Red Raiders the 2-0 lead and that's how the first period would end. In the second period, the Crimson would get on the board and cut the deficit to 2-1 on the Henry Thrun goal at the 6:01 mark. Although the 1 goal lead would be short-lived as Levi Glasman would score for the Red Raiders three minutes later to regain the two-goal lead at 3-1 and the game would stay there for the rest of the period. In the third period, the Crimson would keep fighting and get the game back within one with just over seven minutes left on the Matthew Coronato goal to make it a 3-2 game. From there though the Red Raider's defenses would be up to task as they would block 35 shots as a team in earning the 3-2 victory and being crowned the Whitelaw Cup champion for the first time since 1990 (33 years ago) and first for coach Don Vaughan along with giving the Red Raiders there first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. In the winning effort, Carter Gylander would make 28 saves on 30 shots and 67 saves on 70 shots for the weekend in being named tournament Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament. With the win, the Colgate Red Raiders will enter the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 with a record of 19-15-5 and while the Crimson would come up short in winning the title they will also get a bid to the NCAA Tournament with a record of 24-7-2. ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #2 Harvard Crimson Vs #3 Cornell Big Red March 17th 2023

The celebration is on as the Harvard Crimson get the game winner in overtime to beat the Cornell Big Red 1-0 and advance to the ECAC Hockey finals. It would be the second game of the day from the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY as part of the semi-final day of the ECAC Tournament and it would feature last year's conference tournament winner #2 Harvard Crimson and the #3 Cornell Big Red for the right to face the #5 Colgate Red Raiders for the ECAC title the next day. These games would be all about the defenses and the physical play as the shots for the game would be 25-15 on the night in favor of the Crimson. These games would see only one goal in the game and it would take until the 4:28 mark of the overtime when Harvard's Alex LaFerriere would light the lamp and give the Crimson the 1-0 win. In the winning effort, Mitchell Gibson would make 15 saves on the night for the shutout victory and advance to the championship game against the Colgate Red Raiders. With the loss the Cornell Big Red go to 20-10-2 on the season and will wait till selection Sunday to see if they make the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #1 Quinnipaic Bobcats Vs #5 Colgate Red Raiders March 17th 2023

Colgate's Ross Mitton (17) taps in the rebound passed Quinnipiac's Yaniv Perets (1) for the game-winner in double overtime. It would be the opening game of the ECAC Tournament final four from the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY and it would feature the #1 seeded and #3 ranked nationally the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #5 seeded Colgate Red Raiders. The upset-minded Red Raiders would crack the ice first with just under 3:15 left in the first period on the Daniel Panetta goal to give the Red Raiders the 1-0 and that's where the first period would end. Both teams would have their chances throughout the second period although the defenses on both sides would stand tall as neither team would be able to find the back of the net and the Red Raiders would hold onto the 1-0 lead as they entered the third period. In the third period, the Bobcats would finally break into score collum on the powerplay goal by Ethan De Jong just 3:47 into the period. From there the defenses would hold tight and neither team could take advantage and they would end regulation tied at one. From there the teams would head to the overtime tied at one and it would not be for the lack of chances but the game-winner would take til the 8:50 mark of the second overtime when Ross Mitton would tap in the rebound passed an outstretched Yaniv Perets for the game-winner. With the win, the Colgate Red Raiders advance to the finals of the ECAC Tournament for the first time since 2014 and go for their first Whitelaw Cup since 1990. While the Quinnipiac Bobcats will wait till selection Sunday to see if they would stay on the one-line for the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

#3 Pelham Pelicans (I) Vs #2 Skaneateles Lakers (III) March 12th, 2023

The Skaneateles Lakers have been crowned the 2023 NYSPHSAA Division II champions with a 4-1 win over the Pelham Pelicans. It would be championship Sunday from the LECOM Harbor Center in Buffalo, NY and New York State Boy's Hockey Division II would be first up with the #2 Skaneateles Lakers taking on the defending state champion and currently number #3 in the state Pelham Pelicans. It wouldn't take long for the upstart-minded Lakers to get on the board and take the 1-0 lead in the game when Henry Major would score just 2:05 into the game. The Lakers would keep on the accelerator and expand their lead to 2-0 at the 7:58 mark of the period on the Andrew Falkenberg power play goal. Then at the 11:11 mark of the period the Lakers would take control of the game on the Andrew Witlock goal and make it 3-0. When the teams returned for the second period the Lakers would stay and take a 4-0 lead just 33 seconds into the period on Andrew Whitlock's second goal of the game. The game would stay there till there were just about 90 seconds left in the period when the Pelicans would get on the board with the Sebastian Esposito goal and make it a 4-1 game and give the Pelicans hope in the third period. Although the defenses would stand tall for both teams in the third period as there would be no scoring the defending champions Pelicans would fall to the Skaneateles Lakers to give them their first title in four years. #2 Skaneateles Lakers Vs #1 Salmon River Shamrocks March 11th 2023

The Skaneateles Lakers celebrate as they get the 3-2 win over Salmon River late in the game to head to the finals. It would be the second game of the NYSPHSAA D2 Semi-finals and it would feature the top two ranked teams in the state as the #1 Salmon River Shamrocks would take on the #2 Skaneateles Lakers for the right to take on the Pelham Pelicans for a state title. It would be a battle between two evenly matched teams and the Lakers would get the opening goal of the game 8:52 into the first period from Henry Major for the 1-0 lead. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Shamrocks would answer right back ten seconds later on the goal by Dylan Johnson to tie the game one. The game would stay there till the 4:55 mark of the second period when the Shamrocks would score to take the 2-1 lead on the goal from Evan Collette. The Lakers would keep fighting and tie the game back up at two a little over three minutes later on a goal by Alex Whitlock. The game would stay there and throughout most of the third period. Although with 2:30 left in the game, the Lakers would take the 3-2 lead. Although the Shamrocks would not give up and they would have their chances in the closing minutes although the Lakers would hold on for the in and head to the finals against the Pelham Pelicans.
