Indepence Weekend Spectular June 30th 2023

Thomas Cook (35) and Nick Heywood would come off the last corner side by side as they would battle to the checker for the win as Cook would get the win. It would be the first race in three weekends at the Mohawk International Raceway and it would be one of the bigs on the Independence Weekend Spectular and part of the Mohawk Series and there would be 97 cars in the pits. After all the heat racing was done it would be on to the features and first up would be the Turtles Nest Mini Stocks and Francis White would come from the third starting spot and get the lead on lap 1 and lead them all for the win. Then we would have the King Canna Limited Sportsman Modified and Kyle Reif would get the lead of the first and lead for the first ten laps when he would get passed by Devon Guyette and Bob Laware as Guyette would get the win as Reif and Laware would round out the podium. Then we would have one of the main races on the night on tap with the Twin Leaf 35 for the Sportsman Modified. Nick Heywood would get the early lead of the race over Jalbert at the start. There would be a bad wreck off the restart on lap eight when Tyler Stevenson would meet the backstretch wall and flip and get hit by the pack on the way through. From there it would be the Nick Heywood and Thomas Cook show and on a restart with six laps to go would see Heywood take the lead over Cook but there be no give and Thomas Cook would get the win as they came across the line side by side at the checker. Then it would be the Good Leaf 40 for the 358 Modifieds and it would see the race go 37 laps caution free with Ryan Arbuthnot leading all 40 laps for the win although it would be not without a great challenge from Chris Rabbe and Tim Fuller to round out the podium. Then the last race of the night would be the Famous Aye's 20 for the Pro Stock and Roch Aubin would get the lead off the start. Although it would be short-lived as Joel Herne would take over the lead on lap three. Although there would be a challenge from a newcomer to the division this season Zack Daniels would take the lead on lap 6 and from there would set sail for the win. The track will come back to life next weekend with the 358 Modified "Run what you Brung", Sportsman Modified, Pro Stock, Limited Sportsman Modified, Mini Stocks, and the Enduros. Gallery">Gallery

Airborne Speedway Round #5 Highlight

Joey Scarbrough (11vt) with the late race pass on Jason Bruno (66b) for the win in the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified. It would be the fifth week at Airborne Speedway and it would be one of the more special nights for all the drivers especially the kids as it would be kid's ride night at the track presented by Sysco and Loremans with around 75 cars in competition. The night would start with the kid's favorite portion of the night as they would get to go for a ride with their favorite drivers. After all that and all the heat racing had concluded it would be onto the features and the first one up would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified for 25 laps. In their race, it would see one caution on the only lap as the front row Craig Worely and Mark Fewater would get tangled up battling for the lead in turn one. From there it would be a battle up front for the first part of the race between Jason Bruno and Craig Worely with Bruno getting the advantage. Although they would not be able to go out and hide as there would be a hard-charging Joey Scarbrough that would take the lead in the closing laps and capture his second win of the season followed by the Bruno brothers Jason and Travis rounding out the top 3. Then next up would be the Taylor Rental Street starting 27 cars and that race would not be without its own fair share action as there would be multiple rollovers in the fifteen laps and other cautions that would see your early season points contenders all getting caught up in it the Malay. Although when the dust would settle it would be one of the class veterans that would get the win on the night with Josh Laporte pulling it into victory lane with Luke Marcheski and John Michael Bressette rounding out the top three. Then we would be on to the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified and it would see Rick Frenyea lead the whole race until the last corner when Dale Gonyo would pounce for the win. Then to finish off the night it would be the Hartson Total Opening Renegades for their 25-lap race. The early part of the race would see Keith Pelkey and Jason Boggett chasing down the checkered. Although there would be a hard runner charging from his eighth-place starting spot and Shawn Duquette would capture his second straight win on a late-race restart and Andrew Fitzgerald and Keith Pelkey would finish off the top three. It will be a quick turnaround at the track as they are back racing this Wednesday, June 14th as the Super Dirtcar Series comes to town along with the Taylor Rental Street Stock and the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified. Jamy Begor (19) celeberates his first win of the season in the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified atop the car as he would charge from the 14th spot for the win. It would be the fourth week of racing from the Airborne Speedway as we enter the month of June and the first of two showings of the Nostalgia Tour cars along with the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified, Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified, Hartson Total Opening Renegades, and Taylor Rentals and a surprise appearance by three mega trucks for exhibition. After the heat races were done on the day it would be onto the features for the evening. Before the mains would get underway though the would be an exhibition put on by three of the badest mega trucks in the area doing jumps and donuts for the crowd. Once the mains got underway the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Cars would be first up for their main and the win would go to Aaron Pough. First up for the regular Airborne Speedway divisions would be the Hartson Total Opening Renegades for 25 laps and would see David Sartwell Cornell start on the pole and lead the first couple laps over Keith Pelkey but the Duke Shawn Duquette would be on the charge from the 9th starting spot and take the lead. Although there would be a late-race restart and see him and Riche Turner put on a great battle over the closing laps to claim Shawn Duquettes second win of the season over Richie Turner and Tylor Terry to round out the top three. Then next up would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified and would see Mike Wells and Tanner Forbes start on the front row Wells would get the early lead of the race but there would be a hard charger from the back of the pack and take the lead on lap ten and not look back from there to score his first win of the season. Then it would be time for the Taylor Rental Street Stocks for there 15 lap main event and see John Brown and Jason Bradley get the lead at the start of the race but there be hard-charging Jake Fountain from the fourth row a take the lead by lap five of the event but it would be not without challenge as Josh Laporte would make it a race down the stretch but Fountain would hold on for second win of the season. Then to finish off the night it would be the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified and for the second week in a row it would be the Nate Leonard show and he would claim the win for the second straight week. The race track will come back to life again next week with the four weekly divisions in action plus it will be the annual kid rides night. Gallery
