Plattsburgh State's Axel Rodriquez (2) drives down and lays the floater up and off the window as part of a fifteen point night. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Brockport State Golden Eagles in SUNYAC Men's Basketball action. This would be a game that the young bird would have a hard time keeping up with the Golden Eagles and would trail 46-35 after the first half. When the team return for the second half the Cardinals wouldn't have much of an answer as the Golden Eagles win the second half 48-37 and get the 94-72 victory. In the losing effort Nick Deangelios and Adam Jaquish would have sixteen points as the Cardinals fall to 4-7 on the season. Gallery.

Plattsburgh State's Nicole Unsworth (20) puts it to the top shelf for one of her two goals on the afternoon. The #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Buffalo State Bengals in NEWHL Women's Hockey action. The two teams would take sometime to feel out each other and with that being said there would be no scoring in the first period. Although that would change in the second period and right off the bat as Sara Krauseneck would score just 22 seconds into the game. Then just over the a minute later the Cardinals would strike again and make it 2-0 on the Nicole Unsworth goal. Then at the 7:02 mark Annie Katonka would strike and make it 3-0 Cardinals. Then in the closing seconds of the second period Taylor Whitney would score and the Cardinals would take a 4-0 lead. In the third period the Bengals didn't have much of a answer as the Cardinals would score twice more from Nicole Unsworth (second of the night) and Tatem Cheney as the Cardinals secure the 6-0 win. In the winning effort Ashley Davis would make 11 saves for the shutout as the Cardinals go to 14-1 on the season. Gallery

Geneseo State Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals - Janaury 10th 2020

Plattsburgh State's Theresa Quinn (12) comes in on the breakaway for the layup as part of a five-point night. The Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team returned to SUNYAC action Friday, facing SUNY Geneseo at Memorial Hall and falling by a final score of 66-54. A strong second-half performance, particularly in the fourth quarter, was not enough to overcome a slow start for the Cardinals. Geneseo got on the board first in the first minute of the game before Taylor Clare scored a jumper to tie the game at 2-2. Only 80 seconds into the game, however, a free throw by Lauren Romito gave the Knights a lead that they would never surrender. Geneseo led 24-14 after the first quarter and pulled away in the second as Plattsburgh shot 0-for-18 in the quarter. With Geneseo up by 21 points at halftime, the Cardinals faced an uphill battle to get back into the game. While they did outscore the Knights in both the third and fourth quarters, the final margin of 12 points was the closest score of the second half. The Knights were paced by Romito’s double-double performance, with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Kerrin Montgomery led with 17 points. For the home team, Ly’rell Walker scored 15 points and Taylor Clare scores 12 and collected 10 rebounds for her own double-double in the loss.

Beekmantown's Dale Gonyo (27) takes down Salmon River's Estyn Wyile (88) and break up the breakaway attempt. The Beekmantown Eagles would host the Salmon River Shamrocks in nonconference NYSPHSAA action at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The would-be a matchup between two very evenly matched teams. It would take until the last minute of the first period when the Shamrocks would get the opening goal of the game from Thomas Cook. The game would stay there all the way till halfway through the third period when the Eagles would finally get the tying goal on an Alex Brenzia goal. The game would stay there and overtime would be forced and in the overtime at the 2:03 mark when the Shamrocks would get the winner from Thomas Cook and get the 2-1 victory. In the losing effort, Beekmantown's Riley Hansen would make 26 saves as they fall to 3-3 on the season and the Shamrocks go to 2-2 on the season. Next up for the Eagles will be a road game at Potsdam while the Shamrocks will host Norwood-Norfolk. Gallery.

Clarkson's Zach Tsekos (17) gets the shot off as he is falling to the ice with the Princeton defenders on his hip. The #7 Clarkson Golden Knights would host the Princeton Tigers at the Cheel Arena in ECAC Hockey in front of just over 2100 fans in a rematch of the 2018 ECAC Championship. The home Golden Knights would get the opening goal of the game on the powerplay from Haralds Egle at the 9:39 mark of the first period. The game would stay right there till inside the final three minutes of the second period when the Tigers would tie the game at 1 on a goal by Liam Grande. The Golden Knights would keep fighting and take the lead back at the nine minute mark of the third period on the Adam Tisdale goal to make it 2-1. From there the Golden Knights defense would step up and they would hold on for the 2-1 victory. In the winning effort Frank Marotte would make 23 saves as they go to 14-4-2 and will look to finish off the weekend sleep against the Quinnipac Bobcats. Gallery.

Plattsburgh State’s Axel Rodriguez (2) goes up for a layup while surrounded by four Geneseo defenders. The Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team’s 29-game home winning streak came to an end as SUNYAC play came to Memorial Hall, with a narrow 61-59 defeat at the hands of the Geneseo Knights. The first half set the tone for the tight affair, as the lead changed hands 10 times in the half, with Geneseo leading by as much as 5, while Plattsburgh’s largest lead stood at 3. Geneseo lead by a point with seconds remaining in the half before freshman Erik Salo beat the buzzer with a layup to send the Cardinals to the locker room with a 31-30 lead. Plattsburgh came out strong in the second half, building their lead to as much as 9. The Cardinals stayed in front through nearly the entire half, until a layup by Michael Gannon took the lead for the Knights with 27 seconds left on the clock. Gannon added a free throw to extend the lead to two. In the dying seconds of the game, Adam Jaquish made the would-be game-tying field goal just after time expired to end the game, sealing the Cardinals’ defeat. The loss ended Plattsburgh’s streak of wins in Memorial Hall, which encompassed the entire 2018-2019 season, and dropped the Cardinals to a 1-2 record in SUNYAC play. Gallery.

Plattsburgh State's Anne Katonka (47) gets the rebound goal as she is falling to the ice. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return home for there first game of the home game of the 2020 portion of there season with NEWHL matchup against the Morrisville State Mustangs. The Cardinals would return home in top form as they would get three goals in the opening period two from Katiln Drew Mead and one from Annie Katonka and have a 3-0 lead at the end of the period. In the second period the Cardinals would get one more from Sara Krauseneck at the 3:20 mark to take the 4-0 lead. Although the Mustangs would answer back two minutes later on a goal from Mackenzie Lombardi to break up the shutout bid. That is where the game would stay till 12:49 mark of the third period when Annie Katonka would strike again this time on the powerplay for her second goal of the night and secure the 5-1 victory. In the winning effort, Anne Katonka and Katlin Drew-Mead would each have a pair of goals while Chole Beaubein would make 19 stops as the Cardinals go to 13-1 on the season. Gallery.

Beekmantown Eagles @ Saranac Chiefs - High School Boys Hockey - January 7th 2020

Saranac's Zack O'Connell (12) crunches Beekmantown's Gordie King (4) along the boards with the hard-hit from behind although it would cost him some time in the box. The Saranac Chiefs would host the Beekmantown Eagles in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action. It would be a long feeling out period as it would take til inside the final five minutes of the first period when Eagles Cooper Burdo would score and make it 1-0. The Chiefs would keep fighting and eventually tie the game up with three minutes left in the second period on Saranac's Hayden Buckley goal. The Eagles would keep fighting and eventual take the lead back on Luke Moser (10) to make it 2-1 with five minutes left in the game. That would be enough as the Eagles would get the 2-1. In the winning effort, Riley Hansen would make 31 saves as the Eagles go to 4-2-1 while Erik Frechette for the Chiefs would make 27 saves as the Chiefs are now 6-2 on the season. Gallery.

Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers @ Plattsburgh Hornets - High School Boys Hockey - January 7th 2020

Plattsburgh's Greyson Giroux (11) rifles the shot on net as he takes the hit for the game tying goal late in the game. The Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action. The Hornets would get the opening goal of the game at the 7:45 mark of the period from Ethan Kay. The goal would stand through the first period as the Hornets lead 1-0 after one. The Lakers would fight back and tie the game 2 minutes into the second period on a goal by Hunter Wilmot at 1-1. Then just 30 seconds later the Lakers would take the lead at 2-1 on a goal by Carter Sturgeon. The Hornets would keep the fight up and tie the game up in the closing minutes of the third period at 2 and force overtime by a goal from Greyson Giroux. In the overtime, the Lakers would secure the 3-2 victory on goal from Brendan Bullock. In the winning effort, the Lakers go to 5-3 on the season and play Northeastern Clinton next. While the Hornets fall to 2-4-1 on season and head to Norwood-Norfolk on the weekend for the annual tournament. Gallery.

#1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs #5 Adrian Bulldogs Norwich East West Hockey Classic Championship - January 6th 2020

The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team celebrates their sixth East/West Hockey Classic championship at Norwich University’s Kreitzberg Arena. The No. 1 Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team claimed its sixth title in eight years at Norwich University’s 10th annual East/West Hockey Classic with a 4-1 win over the No. 5 Adrian College Bulldogs. In a tight affair that saw Adrian lead shots on goal 33-30, the Cardinals claimed victory with the first four goals of the contest.

Plattsburgh scored the only goal of the first period, as Taylor Whitney picked up the rebound from an Ivy Boric shot and slid the puck behind Adrian's goaltender Denisa Janodvá, getting knocked to the ice as her shot barely crossed the goal line.

The Cardinals extended their lead with two goals in the span of 40 seconds in the second period, as Abby Brush knocked home the rebound of an Erin McArdle shot and Madison walker scored on a 2-on-1 rush with Kaitlin Drew-Mead. Sierra Benjamin, who claimed the tournament’s MVP award, recorded assists on both goals.

Plattsburgh State began the third period with a power-play after Adrian’s Kelly O’Sullivan was called for body checking in the final moments of the second, and Benjamin capitalized on the opportunity with a hard shot from the left faceoff circle. After her first goal of the season, Benjamin showed her emotions by dabbing before skating to the bench.

Adrian’s Une Bjelland picked up on a loose puck in front of the Plattsburgh net to get the Bulldogs on the board, but the Cardinals held on to the 4-1 lead and skated to the title.

Ashley Davis, starting in net for the Cardinals for the second straight game, made a career-high 32 saves, while Jandová recorded 26 saves of her own.
