Section VII Football Class D Finals: #1 Moriah Vikings Vs. #2 Ausable Valley Patriots November 9th 2024

Moriah's Cooper Allen (4) with the tough catch in traffic that gets them inside the 5-yard line on the drive. It would be the section vii class D championship football game from the Beekmantown High School, and it would feature the #1 Moriah Vikings and the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots, with the winner getting a spot in the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament quarterfinals on November 23rd. The game's opening score would be one rare variety as the Vikings would get a safety with five minutes left in the quarter and take the 2-0 lead. Then, with 4 minutes left in the quarter, we would have our first touchdown as they would hit Chase McGiness for the touchdown and take the 10-0 lead. The Patriots would come back and get on the board just 36 seconds into the second quarter on the 22-yard run by John Fletcher to make it a 10-6 game. The Vikings would answer right back at the 2:35 mark of the quarter on a 4-yard strike to Cooper Allen, and they would regain their double-digit lead at 17-6. The Patriots would not let that get them down as they would answer right back 90 seconds later on the Hayden Bombard 15-yard strike and be back within one score at 18-14. It would be the section vii class D championship football game from the Beekmantown High School, and it would feature the #1 Moriah Vikings and the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots, with the winner getting a spot in the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament quarterfinals on November 23rd. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Football Week 7: Ausable Valley Patriots @ Peru Nighthawks October 18th 2024

A pair of Ausable Valley defenders bring down Peru's Landon Wilkins (32) short of the first down. It would be week 7 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season, and the Peru Nighthawks would host the Ausable Valley Patriots on the Nighthawk's senior night. The Nighthawks would take the early lead in the game at 7-0 on the 4-yard rush by Chase Carpenter 2 minutes into the game. Then, to finish the quarter, the Nighthawks would add two rushing touchdowns to give them the 21-0 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Nighthawks continued their success and added a pair of touchdowns from Chase Carpenter and Jake Frechette, who took the 34-0 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Nighthawks would stay hot and expand their lead to 41-0 on the Owen Smith 1-yard run. Then, in the fourth quarter, the Patriots would break through and get on the board as they connected on a 74-yard pass to Lucas Dashnaw and got the two-point conversion to make it a 41-8 game, and that's where the scoring would end. The game would start off well for the Vikings as they would score just 3:50 into the game on a five-yard run by Evan Fleury to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead. The Vikings would stay on the gas and score just under four minutes later this time on a 2 yard run by Evan Fluery to extend their lead to 14-0. Then in the final 30 seconds in the first quarter, the Vikings would strike again this time from 34 yards and Evan Fluery would score again for his three score of the quarter to give the Vikings the 22-0 lead. The Vikings would slow down some and get just one score in the quarter on a 68-yard scramble to give the Vikings the 30-0 lead as the team went into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Vikings would lighten up and there would only be one score on a 25-yard pass to Luke Smith to give the Vikings the 37-0 lead and the win. In the winning effort, the Vikings go to 7-2 on the season and will enter the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament and take on the winner of Section II on November 17th. The Moriah Vikings keep there reign atop of Class D as they are crowned the 2023 Section VII Class D Championship. The Saranac defense with the gang sack on Ausable Valley's Porter Goodman (3) for the loss. It would be week #7 in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference football and the 1-5 Ausable Valley Patriots would be hosting the #11 ranked and undefeated Saranac Spartans. The game would start off well for the visiting Spartans as they scored just 4 minutes into the game on an 85-yard catch and run from Connor Burns for a 6-0 lead. Then with four minutes left in the opening quarter, the Spartans would strike again this time on a 45 strike to Alex Clancey to take the 13-0 lead as the first quarter would come to a close. When the second quarter started the Spartans would stay on the attack and score a 4-yard run by Cayden Bouvia to take the 20-0 just 3 minutes into the quarter. The Spartans would stay on the gas and score again a 20-yard strike to Bryce Deangelo with 4 minutes left in the half. As the half would be nearing the end the Spartans would find Alex Clancy for a 7-yard pass to take the 34-0 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the second half the Spartans would let off the gas and cruise through the half with a 14-0 advantage and secure a 48-0 win. In the winning effort, the Spartans go to 7-0 on the season as they will head into their final game of the season at home against the 5-2 Moriah Vikings. It would be week #6 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season and the Ausable Valley Patriots would be hosting the Beekmantown Eagles in a mid-season tilt. The Eagles would get the scoring started on a 3-yard run just 4:36 into the game and take the 7-0 lead. The Patriot's defense would do their best to keep the game tight in the early stages as it would stay there till the 3:04 mark of the second quarter when the Eagles would strike on a 19-yard pass to Peyton Viau to extend the lead to 14-0. Then in the final couple minutes of the half, the Eagles would expand on their lead on Louis Sweenor's second running touchdown of the game to take the 21-0 lead into the locker room. When the teams returned for the second half the Eagles offense would stay hot and take a 28-0 lead with 3 minutes left in the quarter on a Peyton Viau 36-yard passing touchdown for second on the night. Then as time would expire in the third quarter the Eagles would strike again this time to Patrick Hagadorn for the 18-yard pass strike and that would end the scoring as neither team would break the goal line in the fourth quarter. With the win the Beekmantown Eagles go to 3-3 on the season and will travel to Saranac Lake next week.
