Buster's Cardinal/Panther Classoc Semi-finals: #1 Middlebury Panthers Vs #4 Elmira Soaring Eagles November 26th 2022
Middlebury's Britt Nawrocki (11) with the goal on the scramble play in front of the net to take the lead. It would be the second game of the 2022 Buster's Cardinal/Panther Classic and it would feature the top ranked Middlebury Panthers and the #4 Elmira Soaring with the winner advancing to the championship tomorrow to take on the upset minded #6 Wisconsin River Falls. The game would start off good for the #1 team in the country as they would get the opening goal of the game at the 12:45 mark of the first period as Britt Nawrocki would light the lamp at the 12:45 mark of the first period and give the Panthers the 1-0 lead. That is where the game would stay till the 4:24 mark of the second period when Panthers would strike on the powerplay and give them the 2-0 lead on Britt Nawrocki's second goal of the game. The Soaring Eagles would keep fighting though and they would eventually get on the board at the 5:08 mark of the third period and make it a one goal game again on the Elizabeth Lepage goal. Although the one goal lead would be short lived as the Panthers would regain the two goal lead at 3-1 at the 8:09 mark by Maddie Bayard. From there the Panthers defense would hold the Eagles in check and give them there first lose of the season. In the winning effort Sophia Meregeas would make 23 saves as they advance to the finals and will take on the #6 Wisconson River Falls Falcons to be crowned the 2022 Busters Cardinal/Panthers Classic champion. #6 Wisconsin River Falls Falcons @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 26th 2022
Wiscon River Falls Maddie McCollins breaks in and beats Plattsburgh State's Lilla Nease to tie the game at two in the closing seconds of the second period. It would be the opening game of the 2022 Buster's Sports Bar and Grill Cardinal/Panther Classic and it would feature the home #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals taking on #6 Wisconsin River Falls Falcons at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The invading Falcons would get the opening goal of the game at the 7:33 mark of the first period on the Bailey Olson goal. The game would stay there all the way to the 5:44 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would get the equalizer off the stick Sara Krauseneck. Then with under four minutes left in the period the Cardinals would get the lead on the Riley Calhoun goal. Although the lead would be short lived as Maddie McCollins would come down on the break away and beat the Cardinal goalie with ten seconds left in the period and tie the game back up at two. Then at the Falcons will retake the lead at the 6:52 mark of the third period on the Aubrey Nelvin goal. From there the Falcons would hold onto the 3-2 lead for the win. In the winning effort the Falcons go to 7-1 on the season while the Cardinals suffer their first loss of the season and go to 7-1. With the win the Falcons head to the championship game of the Busters Cardinal/Panther Classic against the winner of the Middlebury Panthers and the Elmira Soaring Eagles. Gallery.
#9 Peru Nighthawks Vs Ravena Indians November 19th 2022
The Ravena Indians are crowned the 2022 Northern Regional champions with a 35-19 win over the Peru Nighthawks. There would be a spot in the final four on the line today at the Ausable Valley Central School as the #9 Peru Nighthawks would take on the #11 Ravena Indians in the Northern Regional finals of the NYSPHSAA Class B Tournament. The Indians would get the first score of the game at the 9:29 mark of the first quarter on a 56 yard strike to Dominik Paljusak and take a 6-0 lead. The game would stay there til the 2:38 mark of the second quarter when the Indians would score again on a 4 yard run by Aidan Locher and take the 14-0 lead. With about a 1:30 left in the half the Indians would start to pull away in the game as Dominik Paljusak would get his second touchdown of the game and make it a 20-0 lead. Although with 30 seconds left in the half the Nighthawks would get on the board to breakup the rush by the Indians on a 22 yard hook and ladder play and make it 20-7 game at the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the defenses would stand tall in the third quarter. The next score would come at the 3:29 mark of the fourth quarter on a 18 yard run by Aidan Locher and take a 28-7 lead. The Nighthawks would have another halfway through the quarter on a 1 yard run by Jack Hanson and make it a 28-13 game. Ravena would answer back with three minutes left in the game on a score by Frankie Broadhurst from 35 yards out and take a 35-13 lead. Although the Nighthawks answer right back with 2:42 left on Jack Hanson's run for a 35-19 game. From there the Indians defense would hold on for the victory. In the winning effort the Ravena season will contuine next week as they will travel to middletown for the final four and will take on the undefeated Pleasantville and the Nighthawks season comes to end at 10-1 Gallery
Fredonia State Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 18th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Adam Tretowicz (21) wth the goal on the shorthand as he came down on the breakaway for the score. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would contuine there homestand as they would host the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC play. The Cardinals would get the opening goal of the game at the 7:14 mark of the first period when Jake Lanyi would find the back of the night for the 1-0 lead. That would be where the game would stay all the way til the 3:14 mark of the third period when Adam Tretowicz would find the net on a breakaway for the shorthanded goal and the 2-0 Cardinals lead. Then the Cardinals would add a third goal at the 12:09 mark of the period from Josh Belgrave for the 3-0 lead and that is where the game would finish. In the winning effort Eli Shiller would make 23 saves as they go to 4-1-2. They will be back in action tomorrow (November 19th) as they finish off the homestand against the Buffalo State Bengals on poster night at the Stafford Ice Arena. Gallery
Buffalo State Bengals @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 11th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Ciara Wall plays the puck from a knee to get the shot on net. It would be the #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting the Buffalo State Bengals in the Northeast Women's Hockey League at the Stafford Ice Arena. The game would start off good for the home Cardinals as they would get off to the quick 1-0 lead on a goal from Nicole Unsworth at the 2:12 mark of the first period. Then at the 8:36 mark of the period the Cardinals would extend there lead to 2-0 on the Ivy Boric goal. Then to finish off the scoring in the opening period Julia Masotta would light the lamp at the 15:34 mark on the powerplay to take a 3-0 to end the first period. To start the second period Ivy Boric would get her second goal of the game just 1:31 into the period for the 4-0 lead. Then at the 7:13 mark of the second period Clara Wall would score on the powerplay for the 5-0 lead. From there defense would be the name of the game as the Cardinals would get the 5-0 victory as they go to 6-0 on the season as the Bengals fall to 0-5. Gallery
St. Lawerence Saints @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 8th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Ankush Malhotra (21) with the runner down the lane that he sends his defender to the ground. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be back in action tonight against fellow north country foe as they would take on the St. Lawrence Saints. The game would not start off the greatest though for the home Cardinals as they would be playing catch up with the Saints throughout the half and the Saints would have a 41-33 lead after the first half. When the teams would come back for the second half the Cardinals would try the best to keep the game close as it would be under a five point defecit a few times in the half but that would be cloest they could get as the Saints would win the half 36-32 and hold on for the 77-65 win. Although the Cardinals would lose Kevin Tabb would lead all scores with 22 points as the Cardinals fall to 1-2 while the Saints would get there season started with a win. Gallery
St. Lawerence Saints @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 16th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Mya Smith (3) with the runner in the lane that he would float over the defender as part of a game-high 14 points. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be back in action tonight against north country foe the St. Lawrence Saints in non-conference action at Memorial Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The game would start well for the home Cardinals, who doubled up the Saints at the end of the first quarter with a 16-8 lead. Then, in the second quarter, the Saints would come charging back with a 19-10 quarter and had a slim 27-26 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Cardinals found their shot again, outscoring the Cardinals 16-12 and taking a 42-39 lead into the final quarter. In the final quarter, the Saints would find their shot and have a slightly better quarter, 21-16, which would give the Saints the 60-58 win. In the losing effort, a pair of Cardinals led all scorers with 14 points, as Mya Smith and Hannah Ruberto went to 2-2 on the season. Gallery
#9 Norwich Cadets @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 15th 2022
The celebration is at Plattsburgh State as the Cardinals would get the overtime win. It would be the classic women's hockey rivalry, as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Norwich Cadets; this time, there would be added stakes, as both teams were ranked in the top ten in the early stages of the season. The Cadets of Norwich would get the scoring started with 8 minutes left in the first period on the Morgan Tefft goal and the 1-0 lead. That is where the game would stay until the 1:49 mark of the second period, when the Cardinals' Mae Olshansky fouled. Then, just about 90 seconds left in the period, Nicole Unsworth scored on the 2-1 lead. That is where the game would stay until we hit the 9:12 mark of the second period, when the Cadets tied the game on Taylor Girouard's goal. That is where the game would stay until there were 2:53 left in the game, when Sara Krauseneck went to the Cardinals, who took the 3-2. Then the Cadescored two goals in 28 seconds, including goals by Nikki LaGue and Taylor Girouard, and took a 4-3 lead with two minutes left in the game. While the Cardinals were on the penalty kill, they pulled the goalie, and with 19 seconds left, Mattie Norton scored to tie the game at four. In that overtime frame, Plattsburgh from Norwich Cadet would get the game winner with just over 90 seconds in the game. In the winning effort, the Cardinals took a 5-4 win in Tookfort, CA. #2 Genesseo State @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 11th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Jacob Hearne (31) stares down the shot as he would make the save as part of a 35 save night. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would finish off the weekend by welcoming the #2 Genesseo State Knights into the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena for a SUNYAC off a successful night the previous night bidding for the upset. The game would start off good for the upset minded Cardinals as they would get the opening goal of the game with 4:15 left in the first period on the Cory Doney goal and the 1-0 lead. Although the lead would short lived as the Knights would tie the game just 52 seconds into the second period on the power play goal from Matthew Doran. The game would stay there all the way til the 4:28 mark of the third period when the Knights take the lead at 2-1 on the Morgan Peter goal. Although the Cardinals would not give up the fight and would get the tying goal with the extra man with just 25 seconds left in the game. The teams would head to the overtime and play three on three and there would be no decider and the game would end in a 2-2 tie. Jacob Hearne would make 35 saves on the night as the Cardinals go to 3-1-2 on the season. #7 Peru Nighthawks Vs Massena Red Raiders November 12th 2022
The Peru Nighthawks take the 2022 sub regional title and head to the regional finals next weekend for a spot in the final four. It would be the #7 Peru Nighthawks taking on the Massena Red Raiders in the North Country Super Bowl with the winner get #14 Rivenia on November 19th at Beekmantown High School. The game would start off good for the Nighthawks as they would score just three minutes into the game on a 33 yard run by Jack Hanson for the 6-0 lead. The Nighthawks would double there lead to 13-0 halfway through the quarter on a 28 yard pass to Riley Hebert . Then with two minutes left in the quarter the Nighthawks would strike again with a 25 yard pass to Keith Parent and take the 20-0 lead. There would be just one score in the second quarter as Jack Hanson would strike again for his second score on the day this time from nine yards out to take the 27-0 lead into the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Nighthawks office would stay hot. As they would a 25 yard feild goal to expand there lead to 30-0. Then in the closing minute of the quarter Zach O'Connell would hit Rocky Hebert for a 25 yard score and take the 37-0 lead. Then just four minutes into the fourth quarter the Nighthawks offense stays hot on a 13 yard pass to Keith Parent for his second score of the day and a 44-0 lead. Then with just about five minutes left in the game the Red Raiders would breakup the shutout with a big run play by Deshawn Walton and make it a 44-6. On the insuing defensive stand the Red Raiders would get a safety to make it 44-9 game. Then in the final couple minutes of the game the Red Raiders would get another running touchdown this time from Clifford Gay and make it a 44-16 and that is where the game would end. With the win the Nighthawks advance to the regional finals next weekend against Rivena and keep there undefeated season intact at 10-0 while the Massena Red Raiders season comes to a close at 5-5.
