It would be the second game of the opening day of Section VII Basketball championship weekend; It would see a battle between the top 2 seeds in Class C Girls Basketball as we would have the #1 Moriah Vikings and the #2 Ticonderoga Sentinels. The upset-minded Sentinels would have the lead early by the slim 10-9 margin after the first quarter. When the second quarter came around, the Vikings would go on a run, have a 13-2 quarter, and take the 22-15 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Vikings would keep their hor roll going as they double up the Sentinels with an 11-6 quarter and take the 33-21 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Sentinels would do their best to try and get back in the game with a 16-12 quarter, but it would not be enough as the Vikings would get the 45-37 victory. In the winning effort for the Moriah Vikings, Emily Nephew would lead the way with 11 points as they go to 17-4 on the season and advance to the New York State Class C Girls' Basketball Tournament. As for the Ticonderogga Sentinels, Maddy Casey would have 12 points as they finish their season at 13-9. Gallery

Section VII Boy's Hockey Semi-Finals: #3 Plattsburgh Hornets @ #2 Saranac Spartans February 27th 2025

The Saranac Spartans celebrate their 3-0 win over the Plattsburgh Hornets in the Section VII Semi-Finals and advance to the finals next week. It would be section VII playoff time in boy's hockey and in the dsemi-finals we would see both teams that call the Ameri-Can Sports Center home as the #3 Plattsburgh Hornets would take on the #2 Saranac Spartans with a right to go to the Section VII Championship on Monday night at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The game would go back and forth through the first period with the Spartans having the 15-3 edge on shots, but there would be no scoring. The ice would finally be broken at the 6:46 mark of the second period when Ryan Campbell would get the Spartans on the board at the 6:46 mark for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there until the 10:55 mark of the period when the Spartans would double their lead to 2-0 on the Landon Giroux goal, and that's how the scoring would end for the period. In the third period, the Spartans would take control of the game on the Nolan Miner goal at 7:35. From there,, the Spartans would clamp down the defense and hold on for the win as they go to 13-7-1 on the season and advance to the Section VII Championship against the Beekmantown Eagles and Saranac Lake Placid game winner. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets, their season has to end at 10-8-3. Gallery

It would be the semi-finals of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey as it would be a rematch of last year's Championship as the #1 Beekmantown Eagles would host the #4 Saranac Lake Lake Placid Lakers for the right to head to the Championship Monday night. The Lakers would get the game's opening goal and the first line of the first period when Ayden McCormick scored at 4:57 to take the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 4:57 mark of the second period when Edward Sweenor scored to tie the game at 1. Then, just about two minutes later, the Eagles would take the 2-1 lead on Edward Sweenor's second goal of the game. The Eagles would keep coming and extend their lead to 3-1 on Edward Sweenor's third straight goal at the 10:18 mark of the period. The Eagles and Sweenor would stay host and extend their lead to 4-1 at the 12:39 mark of the period. Although, with just 1:22 left in the period, the Lakers would add one from Carson St. Louis to make it a 4-2 game at the end of the second period. The game would stay there until the end of the third period when Mason Carter would add the empty-netter to secure the 5-2 victory. In the winning effort, the Beekmantown Eagles' Jack Bell would make 36 saves as they advanced to the Championship against the #2 Saranac Spartans. As for the Saranac/Lake Placid Lakers, Cassidy Goodman would make 42 saves as their season ends at 7-11-1. Gallery

It would be the home opener for the 2025 Plattsburgh State Women's Lacrosse team as they would host the Castleton State Spartans in nonconference action. The home Cardinals would get off to a good start as they would have the 7-3 lead after the first quarter as Leah Klotz (three), Rachel Lamar, Nicole Resnick, Cynthia Barnosky, and Maddy Garcia would score for the Cardinals. In the second quarter, it would stay the same for the Cardinals as they would have another 7-3 quarter on goals from Tabor Iohseriio, Leah Klotz (twice), Caitlin Nash, Maddy Garcia (twice), and Ashley O'Hara as they take the 14-6 lead into the intermission. When the teams would return for the third quarters, the Spartans would make their best stand with a 4-3 quarter scoring for the Cardinals, which would be Alex LaDue (twice) and Cynthia Barnosky for the 17-9 Cardinals lead. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would finish off the Spartans with an 8-1 quarter, and scoring for the Cardinals would be Caitlin Nash (third), Ashley O'Hara, Maddy Garcia, Rachel Lamar, Chase Calandra, and Isabella Girard as the Cardinals get the 25-11 victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Anna Myers would make 11 saves as they go to 1-1 in the early part of the season, and they will host the Union Charge in their next game on March 1st. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals celebrate as they get the 5-3 come-from-behind victory in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals. It would be time for the SUNYAC Men's Hockey Playoffs from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the #4 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #5 Potsdam State Bears with a win advancing you to the semi-finals. The upset-minded Bears would get the game's opening goal at the 6:33 mark of the first period, while Jack Loran would get the goal at the 6:33 mark of the first period. The Bears would keep coming and expand their lead to 2-0 at the 11:56 mark of the period when Jeremy Quensel would score. Then, with just over a minute left in the period, the Bears would expand their lead to 3-0 when Rocco Seery would score, and that's where the first period would end. In the second period, the Cardinals would finally get on the board at the 5:30 mark when Lonan Bulger would score on the power play and make it a 3-1 game. That's where the second period would end. The Cardinals could cut the deficit to 1 at 3-2 just 4:52 into the third period when Brody Spencer Ha would score. Then, just about three minutes later, the Cardinals would return and tie the game at three on Lonan Bulger's second goal. Then, with just under six minutes left in the game, the Cardinals would get the lead on Patrick Cole's tip goal and take the 4-3 lead. Then, with 50 seconds left in the game, the Cardinals would get the empty-netter from Jake Sacratini to secure the 5-3 victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Jacob Hearne would make two saves on the night as they go to 15-10-1 on the season and will take on the #1 Cortland State Red Dragons in the semi-finals. It would be SUNYAC playoffs time, and the #4 seeded Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #5 Morrisville State Mustangs in the Quarterfinals of the SUNYAC Men's Basketball playoffs in front of 725 fans for the first time in seven seasons. The game would be close throughout the first half, but the Cardinals would hold the lead for the whole half and end the half tied at 28. In the second half, it would be a lot like the first half and close throughout, and with 4 seconds left in the game, the Cardinals would extend their lead to three. The Mustangs would get a shot off at the buzzer, but it would rim out, and the Cardinals would get the 69-66 win after a 41-38 half. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, they would advance to the conference semi-finals and take on the #1 New Paltz Hawks as Franklin Infante would lead the way with 21 points as the Cardinals go to 15-11 on the season. As for the Morrisville State, the Mustangs' second would end as Kareem Sanders would score 14 points, and their season would end at 13-13. Gallery

It would be the regular season finale, and the Cardinals would be fighting to host a first-round game from Memorial Hall in front of 305 fans as they would take on the Blue Devils from Fredonia State. The game would start with the Blue Devils as they would race out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would start taking control of the game as they would have an even quarter at 14-14 but still trail 35-26 at the break. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Cardinals would start taking control of the game with an 18-11 quarter but still trailed 46-44 as they entered the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the defense would be the game's name for the Cardinals as they would hold the Blue Devils to three points while scoring nine to secure the 53-49 victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, they would go to 14-11 on the season, and Julia Creek would lead the way with 12 points, but it would not be enough to get the home first-round game as they will go on the road to play the Canton Kangaroos. It would be the final game of the regular season from Memorial Hall, and see the Plattsburgh State Cardinals host the Fredonia State Blue Devils in SUNYAC and play in front of 550 fans. It would be a scoring, fast-paced game from the opening tip that would see the Cardinals jump out to a 19-4 lead to start the game before the Blue Devils would start coming back, and the Cardinals would have the 50-43 lead at the intermission When the teams returned for the second half the pace of the game would only get faster as both teams would have over 50 points in the half with the Cardinals winning the half 66-52 and secure the 116-95 victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Kareem Welch would lead the way with 25 points as they go to 14-11 in the season and will host the Morrisville State Mustangs in the first round on Tuesday evening. As for the Fredonia State Blue Devils' season, it will end at 6-19 as Aiden Proudfoot and Brandon Kulakowski would combine for 20 points. Gallery

It would be the start of the regular season's final weekend, and the Plattsburgh State Cardinals are fighting to host a first-round game in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament as they take on the Buffalo State Bengals in front of 650 fans. The first half of the game would be tight and back and forth, and the Cardinals would hold the slim 31-30 lead. When the teams returned for the second half, it would be more back and forth, with both of them having their chance to win the game down the stretch, but the Bengals would win the half 37-36 and force overtime tied at 67. In the overtime, the Cardinals would get the 78-77 win when Franklin Infante would make the game-winning free throw with seconds to spare. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Franklin Infante would lead the way with 24 points as they go to 13-11 on the season and head into their final game against the Fredonia State Blue Devils. It would be the start of the final weekend of the regular season for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, and they would be hosting the Buffalo State Bengals in SUNYAC action in front of 225 fans at Memorial Hall as they would be looking to get a home playoff game. The game would not start well with the Cardinals as they would get doubled up after the first quarter as they trailed 15-8. In the second quarter, the offense would come to life for the Cardinals as they would have a 22-7 quarter and take the lead at 30-22 as they went to the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Cardinals would stay hot as they would have a 19-8 quarter and extend their lead to 49-30 as they went to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the teams would play to draw at 15, although the Cardinals would secure their 64-45 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinal's Payton Couture would lead the way with 11 points as they go to 13-11 on the season and head into their regular-season finale against the Fredonia State Blue Devils.
