Buffalo State Bengals @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Women's Hockey February 18th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Ivy Boric (19) setup for the one-timer goal and get the lead in the game. It would be the start of the last weekend of the regular season as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Buffalo State Bengals in a pair of games in NEWHL action. The game would start off close as the teams would be felling each other out and the lone goal of the first period as IVY Boric would score at the 15:17 mark. In the second period, the Cardinals would start to pull away as they would get three goals in the period from Taylor Whitney and Annie Katonka (twice) and take a 4-0 lead into the third period. In the third period, the dam would break and the Cardinals would flood the net with five goals from Sara Krauseneck, Mattie Norton, Taylor Whitney (twice and third of the night), and Riley Calhoun to secure the 9-0 win. In the winning effort, Chloe Beaubien would make seven saves for the shutout as they go to 21-2-1 on the season. Gallery

Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball February 18th 2022

Plattsburgh High School freshman Bailey Hewson attempts to cut into the middle through the defense of Northeastern Clinton's senior Elisabeth Prairie and sophomore Desiree Dubois. Northeastern Clinton rode a strong second and third quarter performance to a 49-29 victory over Plattsburgh High School Friday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.
Both teams got off to a slow start, with neither scoring before the midpoint of the opening quarter. The Hornets got on the board first with a pair of free throws from junior Calli Fitzwater, but it was the Cougars who ended the opening frame with a 9-5 lead.
Northeastern Clinton pulled away in the second, led by a nine-point quarter for sophomore Desiree Dubois.
The score at the halftime break saw the Cougars with a 21-9 lead. Plattsburgh junior Cora Long put up nine points of her own in the third quarter, but the Hornets were never able to pull back the Cougars' lead.
Dubois led Northeastern Clinton's offense with 20 points, ahead of 13 points from sophomore Bailee Lafountain. Long's 16 points led the Hornets in the loss, followed by Fitzwater with 6 points.
Both Dubois and Long knocked down four shots each from the three-point arc. Gallery

Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Beekmantown Eagles Boys Hockey February 17th 2022

Northeastern Clinton's Ryan Raccine (10) breaks in on Beekmantown's Austin Doser (31) and beats him on the goal. It would be senior night at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse as the Beekmantown Eagles would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action in what might be a preview of the championship that will be held in ten days. It wouldn't take long for the home Beekmantown Eagles to get on the board as they would light the lamp at the 2:49 mark of the first period on the Anthony Marion goal for the 1-0 lead and that's how the first period would end. Then at the 4:40 mark of the second period, Ryan Racine would come in the breakaway and beat the goalie, and tie the game at 1. Then about halfway through the second period the Eagles would come back and regain the 1 goal lead on the Zachary Lapier powerplay goal. That is where the game would stay still just under three minutes left in the game when the Eagles Keegan Rodier would shoot from the left faceoff circle and light the lamp and secure the 3-1 win. In the winning effort, the Beekmantown Eagles would secure the regular-season crown and the #1 seed in the upcoming playoffs and will wait for the winner of Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake-Lake Placid on February 24th. Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers @ Saranac Chiefs Champlain Valey Athletic Conference Boys Hockey February 14th 2022

We would start the last week of the regular season in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference hockey season with a battle of the Saranac's as the Chiefs would host the Lakers. The game would start off evenly match as both teams were looking for an edge and the Chiefs would finally get it at the 13:52 mark as Landon Duprey would score on the powerplay to take the 1-0 lead. Then with just five seconds left in the period, the Chiefs would strike again and take the 2-0 lead on the Hayden Buckley goal. When the teams would come back for the second period the Chiefs would look to take a stranglehold on the game at 3-0 at 5:13 mark as Landon Duprey would get his second of the game. Then just over a minute later the Lakers would start to crawl their way back into the game as they would get on the board and make it a 3-1 game. Then just 30 seconds the Lakers would be able to make it a one-goal game at 3-2. Then at the 11:06 mark of the second period, the comeback would be complete as Bailey Bartholomew would strike to tie the game at three. Although the Chiefs would finally get an answer with just over a minute left in the period on Landon Duprey's hat trick goal to take the lead back at 4-3. The Chiefs would quickly regain their two-goal lead at 5-3 just 15 seconds into the third period as Landon Duprey would add his fourth goal of the game. The Lakers would throw everything they had it at throughout the rest of the period but the Chiefs would be up to the task and secure the 5-3 victory. Gallery

Beekmantown Eagles @ Saranac Chiefs Champlain Valey Athletic Conference Boys Hockey February 12th 2022

Saranac's Nolan Miner (9) with the hard hit on Beekmantown's Kyle Tranham (20) and pins them along the end boards. The Saranac Chiefs would host the Beekmantown Eagles in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey action at Amer-Can North Arena. It would be a very evenly matched game with some hard-hitting and there would be no scoring through the first period of action. The first goal of the game would come in the first minute of the second period from Saranac's Ashtyn Catlin to give the Chiefs the 1-0 lead. The lead would be short-lived as the Eagles would get the equalizer four minutes later from Jake Brunham to tie the game at one. Although the Chiefs would answer back just eight seconds later from Ethan Barnes and make it a 2-1 game. Then just 2:36 into the third period the Chiefs would expand on their lead and make it a 3-1 game on the Landon Duprey goal. Then in the closing minutes of the game, the Chiefs would add an empty netter from Hunter Provost to secure the 4-1 victory. Next for the teams, the Saranac Chiefs will play Saranac Lake-Lake Placid on February 14th as the Beekmantown Eagles will be in action on February 15th against the Plattsburgh Hornets. Gallery

Brockport State Golden Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals SUNYAC Women's Basketball February 12th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Hannah Ruberto (30) with the challenged layup over the Brockport State defender for the hoop and haem. It would be the final regular-season home game for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would host the Brockport State Golden Eagles in SUNYAC Women's Basketball action. The game would not start off the greatest for the home Cardinals as the Golden Eagles would jump out to a 14-9 through the first quarter of the game. Then in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles started to pull away with a 21-14 quarter and take a 35-23 lead into the locker room. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Golden Eagles would really start to put the game away with a 13-1 quarter and take a 48-24 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles would put the final touches on the game with an 11-7 quarter and finish off the Cardinals with a 59-31 victory. As the Cardinals would fall to 7-16 on the season and Hope Sullivan would lead the way for the Cardinals with eight points. Gallery

Brockport State Golden Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 12th 2022 SUNYAC Men's Basketball

Plattsburgh State's Erik Salo (10) with the challenging chip shot as he charged the basket. It would be the home finale for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would host the Brockport State Golden Eagles in the SUNYAC Men's Basketball action. The Cardinals would do their best to keep the game close through the first half although the Golden Eagles would take the 51-36 lead into the intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the Cardinals would look for an answer to the Golden Eagles but wouldn't have one as they lose the half 53-37 and the game 104-73, In the losing effort Kevin Tabb would lead the way with 26 points as the Cardinals fall to 2-22 on the season. The Cardinals will finish off their season next weekend at New Paltz and Oneonta. Gallery

Potsdam State Bears @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Division III Women's Hockey February 12th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Ivy Boric (11) with the goal as they scramble in front of the net for the rebound. The Plattsburgh State's would finish off a two-game home series with North Country foe the Potsdam State Bears in NEWHL action. The Cardinals would start off good as they would get two goals in the first five minutes of the game from Annie Katonka and Mae Olshansky for the quick 2-0 lead. Then with six minutes left in the first period on the Emily Dellaneve to make it a 2-1 game. Then just 90 seconds later the Cardinals would regain their two-goal lead at 3-1 on Annie Katonka's second goal of the period. That is where the game would stay till there was 2:45 left in the second period when Annie Katonka would finish off her hat trick game and make it a 4-1 Cardinals game. In the third period, the Cardinals would once again start off fast with two goals in the first five minutes from Erin McArdle and Ivy Boric to make it a 6-1 game. Then halfway through the period, the Bears would add their second goal of the game on the powerplay from Megan Teachout to make it a 6-2. Then with just under six minutes left in the game, the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake with a goal from Tatem Cheney to secure the 7-2 win. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 17 saves on the day as they go to 19-2-1 on the season as they head into their game against Canton on February 15th. Gallery

Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball February 11th 2022

Plattsburgh's Bailey Hewson (10) with the floater as she drives to the basket for the score. We would have a crosstown Champlain Valley Athletic Conference game as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host 8-0 lead. In the second quarter rival the Beekmantown Eagles. The game would start off great for the visiting Eagles as they would have shutout first quarter at 8-0 Eagles. In the second quarter, it would be more of the same as the Eagles did their best to keep the shutout and have an impressive 16-2 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter from the break they would bring their offensive's as the Eagles would win the quarter and take a 28-12 lead into the fourth and final quarter. In that fourth quarter, the teams would be all equal with an 11-11 quarter for the 39-23 victory. In the winning effort, the Eagles go to 10-9 while the Hornets fall to 6-11 on the season. Gallery

Geneseo State Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals SUNYAC Women's Basketball February 11th 2022

Plattsburgh State's Mya Smith (11) with the straight-on jumper from the top of the key as part of a three-point night. It would be a matchup at Plattsburgh State's Memorial Hall as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Geneseo State Knights in Women's SUNYAC Basketball action. It would be a low-scoring slow start to the game as the visiting Knights would have the 9-6 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the offensive would start to come and the Cardinals would lead the quarter 13-8 and take the slim 19-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter it would be the same the defenses would be on display with the Knights winning the quarter 15-12 and taking the slim 32-31 lead into the final quarter. In that final quarter, the Knights would just shut down the Cardinals with a 13-3 quarter and win the game 45-34. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 7-15 on the season as Kayla Doddy would lead the way with ten points and they are back in action February 12th against the Brockport State Eagles. Gallery
