Dirtcar Sportsman North/East Series presented by Liquior and Wine Warehouse April 30th 2022
It would be some four-wide racing through turns 1 and 2 of the 4 cylinders main between Greg Zindler (46), Nate Harden (125), (65), and Caleb Tourville (42) as the high for a top 3 finish on opening night. It would the season opener for the Airborne Speedway and they would bring in the Dirtcar Sportsman North/East Series with a liquor and wine warehouse presenting the night of racing. The pits would be packed for the opening night of racing as there would be nearly 100 cars in the pits for the dour divisions on the night, Sportsman Modified, Novice Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, and the 4 Cylinders. We would start the night with the opening ceremonies and honoring once again the 2021 season champions. When the racing got underway we would start with the Sportsman Modified there were six heats and the winners would be David Boisclair, Dave Rodgers, Shane Pecore, Jamy Begor, Zach Buff, and Andrew Buff. Then next up we would have the Renegades for their two heats with wins going to Shawn Duquette and Zack Daniels. Then the Novice Sportsman Modified would have their heat and the win would go to Dale Gonyo. Then the heat racing would end with the 4 cylinders having their two hears and the winners would be Nate and Bill Doner to end the heat racing the night. Although that would not be the end of qualifying as with the large amount of Sportsman Modified they would need three Last Chance Qualifiers to finish out the field for the A-Main and the winners would be Michael Wagner, and Richie Simmons, and Beau Reeves. With all the qualifying down it would be on to the main events of the evening and the first one up would be the Taylor Rental 4 Cylinders with last year's champion Nate Smart starting on the pole he would hold upfront and get the first race win of the season but not without stiff competition from Greg Zindler and Nate Harden who would round out the top three. The next main event of the evening would be the showcase event as the Dirtcar Sportsman Modified North/East Series would take to the track for 40 laps with a packed 33 cars starting. After a few opening lap crashes the cars would be pulled to the pits and the rest of the evening would be postponed as they deemed the track unsafe as drivers were unable to see the car in front of them with the dust spray. The rest of the event including the Sportsman Modified race will be rescheduled to a later date. The Airborne Speedway will be back in action next weekend May 7th with the return of the 358 Modifieds. Gallery
Saranac Lake Red Storm @ Peru Nighthawks April 26th 2022
Peru's hitter with the base hit that she sends down the line. The Peru Nighthawks would host the Saranac Lake Red Storm in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball action. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Nighthawks would open up the scoring four runs. In the top of the fourth, the Red Storm would cut the deficit in half as they would get at 4-2. The Nighthawks would explode for eight runs in the sixth inning and extend the lead to 12-2. The Red Storm would an effort in the seventh to get back in the game but they would only get three runs. As the Nighthawks would hold on for the 12-5 win. Gallery
Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 25th 2022
Plattsburgh's third basemen with the pick on the grounder and fires over for the out at first. The Plattsburgh Hornets would be the away team as they play at home against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars a the Cougars' field was not ready to be played on. The game would start off good for the Hornets as they would get two runs in the first inning for the 2-0 lead and that's, where the game would stay until the bottom of the third when the Cougars would answer with two of their, own and tie the game at 2. Although it would not be tied for very long as the Hornets would answer back in the fourth inning with three runs and retake the lead at 5-2. Then in the fifth, the Hornets would get two more as they would extend the lead to 7-2. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars would get a single run to make it a 7-3 game, and then at the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars would add another three runs and make it a 7-6 game as they went to the seventh. In the seventh inning, the Hornets would the game away as they would add three runs and get the 10-6 win. Gallery
#23 Brockport State Golden Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 23rd 2022
Brockport State's Allison Jennings (1) with the jump shot for one of her three goals in the third quarter. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #23 ranked Brockport State Golden Eagles in SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse action as part of the senior day game. The game would not start off good for the home Cardinals as they would trail 8-2 after the first quarter scoring the two for the Cardinals would be Caroline Noia and Lindsay Guzzetta while scoring for the Golden Eagles would be Danielle Hemly, Claire Odett (fourth), Julia Quinlan (twice), and Logan Hibbard. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would get shutout 4-0 on goals by Julia Quinlan (third), Courtney Cunningham, Cassidy Burnash, and Danielle Hemly (second) and take a 12-2 lead into the break. When the teams returned for the third period the Eagle's offense would stay hot with another 4-0 quarter on goals from Logan Hibbard (second), Allison Jennings (third), and take a 16-2 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the teams would trade a goal each with Kate Kennedy scoring for the Cardinals and Danielle Hemly scoring her third on the day for the Eagles. As the Eagles would get the 17-3 win as the Cardinals fall to 4-8 on the season. Gallery
Potsdam State Bears @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 23rd 2022
Plattsburgh State's Danielle Torres (22) with the tag on the Potsdam State base runner trying to score on the ball hit to the outfield. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Potsdam State Bears in the home season finale of the 2022 season in doubleheader SUNYAC action. The first game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third when McKearin would score on the fielder's choice to make it 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals would add another single run in the bottom of the fourth on another fielders choice and Langdon would score. In the fifth inning, the Cardinals would get two runs on Palmer's rbi triple and Langdon's rbi single. From there the Cardinals would hold on for the 4-0 win. In the winning effort, Golino would go the complete-game shutout giving up just 1 hit and striking out six as the Cardinals go to 9-14 on the season. After a thirty-minute break, the teams would meet up again for game two of the doubleheader. The second game would start as the first game ended as the Cardinals would get three runs in the first lead by Maggiacom 2 rbi double for the 3-0 lead. In the second inning, they would get another run as Palmer would score on the wild pitch to make it 4-0. In the fourth inning, the Bears would break up the shutout on Brandt's double to make it 4-1. In the sixth inning though the Cardinals would put the game out of reach on a three-run home run by Langdon to make it a 7-1 game and that's where the game would finish. The Cardinals would go to 10-14 on the season as Maggiacom would go the complete game giving up four hits one run while striking out three. The Cardinals will be in action again on Monday as they travel to Oswego to face them in doubleheader action. Gallery
Norwich Cadets @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 18th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Ryan Lawyer (31) deliveries the strike with the fastball as part of 6 strikeout nights where he would go six innings and give up five hits and one run. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Norwich Cadets in nonleague action at Chip Cummings Field. The game would remain scoreless until the third inning when the home cardinals would explode for four runs led by Messersch's 2 rbi double to give them the 4-0 lead. The Cardinals would come back in the fourth with another two runs led by Reily's RBI double as the Cardinals take a 6-0 lead. The Cardinals would keep the bats going in the fifth inning on the single run by Veit's rbi single to center to take the 7-0 lead. The Cardinal's offense would come to end in the sixth inning with another two runs on a 2 rbi single by Messerch to make it a 9-0 game. The Cadets would break the ice in the seventh with a single run there and another in the ninth inning. Although it would not be enough as the Cardinals would get the 9-2 win and go to 11-12 on the season. Leading the way for the Cardinals on the mound would be Ryan Lawyer as he goes six innings and scattered five hits while giving up one run and striking out six. Meanwhile, at the plate, the Cardinals would have a great outing by Steve Messerschmitt as he would have 2 hits and 4 RBIs on the day. Brockport State Golden Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 16th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Daniel Umbro (40) and Brockport State's Ethan Stiles (7) battle for possession on the opening face-off of the game. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Brockport State Golden Eagles in SUNYAC Lacrosse action. The game would not start off good for the home Cardinals as they would be down 3-0 after the first quarter on goals from Owen VanWie, Rocco Santillo, and Jhovanny Olivares. In the second quarter, the Cardinal's luck would not be much better as the Eagles would win the quarter 5-1 and take an 8-1 lead into the locker room on goals from Owen VanWie (second) Nelson Logan, Rocco Santillo (second and third), and Carson Colucci while getting the lone goal for the Cardinals would be Owen Lorenzetti. When the teams came back for the second half the Cardinals still wouldn't have any luck as they got outscored 5-0 on Rocco Santillo (fourth), Ethan Stiles (second), and Owen Vanwie (third), Carson Colucci (second) and Ryan McCarthy. In the losing effort, Christian Bassi would make 13 saves as they fall to 3-10 on the season. Gallery
Russell Sage Gators @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 12th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Zach Gill (3) with the jump shot as he crossed across in front of the goal for the score. It would be the last nonconference game of the schedule as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Russell Sage Gators in Men's Lacrosse action. The game would start off good for the home Cardinals as they would have a 5-2 lead after the first quarter on the strength of goals from Stephen Kane, Kyle Rutland, Andrew Braverman, Zach Gill, and Donald Woods. In the second quarter, the Cardinals offense would come alive with a 7-0 quarter and take a 12-2 lead into the lockerroom on goals from Max Burgio, Donald Woods (second & third), Zach Gill (second & third), and John Eiseman (one & two). When the teams returned for the third quarter the Cardinal's offense would stay hot with a 5-2 quarter and take a 17-4 lead into the final quarter on goals from John Eiserman (third), Cam Morin, Donald Woods (fourth), Matt Trypaluk and Logan Vilardi. In the fourth quarter, the cardinals would let off the gas and have a 4-1 quarter on goals from Logan Jones, Zach Derhak (one & two), and Ryan Weaver as the Cardinals would secure the 21-5 lead. In the winning effort, the Cardinals would combine for 12 saves as they would go to 3-9 on the season. Gallery
Geneseo State Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 12th 2022
The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be back in action as they would host the Geneseo State Knights in doubleheader SUNYAC Softball action. The first game of the doubleheader would not start off good for the Cardinals as they would give up a rbi double in the first inning and trail 1-0. Then in the third inning, the Knights would score another three runs led by Schwartz 2 rbi triple, and make it a 4-0 game. Then in the fifth inning, the Cardinals would get on the board with a pair of runs led by Langdon rbi single and make it a 4-2 game. In the sixth inning, the Knights would take control of the game with three runs lead by Schmitz 2 rbi double, and make it a 7-2 game. In the seventh inning just add insurance on the game the Knights would get another three runs to get the 10-2 win. Then it would be onto game two of the doubleheader and it would start off good for the Cardinals as they would get a rbi double in the first by Maggiacom for the 1-0 lead. The Knights would battle back and tie the game at one on an error. Then in the fourth inning, the Cardinals would regain the lead at 2-1 on a sacrifice fly. Then in the fifth inning, the Knights would score four runs as they take the 5-2 lead led by Riccardi 2 rbi single. Then in the sixth, the Knights would add another run on the Schwartz rbi double for the 6-2 lead. Then in the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals would cut the lead in half at 6-4 on the Torres 2 rbi single. Then in the seventh inning, the Knights would put the final touches on the game with a rbi single by Kersch for the 7-4 win. In the losing effort, the Cardinals fall to 8-12 on the season. Gallery
Brockport State Golden Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals April 11th 2022
Plattsburgh State's Dolly Garguilo drops to a knee and fields the grounder to the outfield to keep it at single. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Brockport State Eagles in doubleheader SUNYAC Softball action. The Cardinals would get single runs in the 2nd and 6th inning thanks to Maggiacomo and Gentile for the 2-0 win in game 1. The Cardinals pitcher Kristina Maggiacomo would go the complete game strike out five and scattered six hits for the 2-0 win. Then they would head to game 2 as they would look for the sweep on the day. The game would start off with the two teams trading runs in the first single with Darguilo getting a two rbi single and Waite a rbi single in the first inning as the Cardinals have a 3-1 lead after the first inning. The Cardinals would another run in the second inning as Garguilo with the RBI single for the 4-1 lead. The Eagles would come back and tie it up in the top of third on three rbi singles. Although at the bottom of the inning the Cardinals would regain the lead at 5-4 on Murray's fielder choice. The Eagles would tie the game up again in the fifth inning on a pass ball. Then in the sixth inning, the Eagles would take their first lead of the game at 7-5 on a fielders choice and single. Although the Cardinals would get it back to 7-6 on Murray's rbi single. Then in the seventh inning, the Cardinals would get two runs including a walk-off double by Waite to give the Cardinals the 8-7. With the win, the Cardinals get the sweep on the day and go to 8-10 on the season. Gallery
