Plattsburgh State's Jimmy Poreda (29) with the pad save that he sends to the corner as part of a 20 save night. It would be the last game of the regular season and the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would be in a must-win situation as they hosted the Morrisville State Mustangs in the second game of the weekend series if they wanted to make the playoffs. With that being said the home fans would come out in force to root on the Cardinals as 1500 would pack the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. Although the game would not start off good for the Cardinals as the Mustangs would get the opening goal of the game just 5:34 into the first period from Christian Vella. The game would remain there all the way till the 5th minute of the second period when the Cardinals would get on the broad to tie the game at 1 on the Mitchell Hale goal. Then in the final three minutes of the second, the Cardinals would take the lead at 2-1 on the Liam Lawson goal. Then just 33 seconds into the third period the Cardinals would extend there lead to 3-1 on the Joe Kile goal. Then in the 11th minute, the Cardinals would start to salt the game away as Andrew Pizzo would score to make it a 4-1 lead. Then with under four minutes left in the game, the Cardinals would put the final touches on the win with the Christian Dahl goal for the 5-1 win. In the winning effort, the Cardinals would secure there spot in the playoffs as they get the #5 seed and will play the Brockport State Golden Eagles in the opening round of the SUNYAC playoffs. In the win, Jimmy Poreda would make 20 saves as the Cardinals go to 9-13-3 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Mike Falanga (10) takes out the Morrisville State Mustangs goalie as he crashes the net to go after the loose puck. It would be the last weekend of the regular season and the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the first of a pair of games against the Morrisville State Mustangs as they fight for there playoff lives. It would not start off good for the Cardinals though as the visiting Mustangs would strike first just 19 seconds into the game on a goal by James Boisvert for the one 1-0. Although the Cardinals would answer back with a pair of goals from Matt Araujo and Hunter Alden and the 2-1 lead into the intermission. In the second period though the teams would combine for 5 goals as the Cardinals would take a 6-2 lead with goals from Mike Falangana, Adam Tretowicz (twice) and Joe Drabin. In the third period, the Cardinals would add to more goals from Hunter Alden (second of the night) and Brendan Young as they cruise to the 8-2 win. In the winning effort, Johnny Poreda would make 26 saves as the Cardinals go to 8-13-2 on the season and keep the playoffs alive. They are right back at it tomorrow night against the same Morrisville State Mustangs as they battle for the playoffs. Gallery

Cortland State Red Dragons @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals - SUNYAC Men's Hockey Men's Hockey - Fevruary 1st 2020

Plattsburgh State's Brandon Wells (34) with the chest save and the puck drops down into the mitt as he has 17 saves on the net. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Cortland State Red Dragons in SUNYAC Men's Hockey action in front of 1300 fans at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The game would not start off good for the home Cardinals as the Red Dragons would take the early 1-0 lead three minutes into the game on the Doug Eglstram goal. Then just over four minutes later at the 7:42 mark of period the Red Dragons would extend there lead to 2-0 on the goal by Doug Eglstram his second of the night. The game would stay there till the 12:44 mark of the second period when the Red Dragons would strike again on the Shane Beaulieu goal to make it 3-0. The Cardinals would finally get on the broad just over 30 seconds later when Brandon Young would score to make it a 3-1 game. Then on the powerplay at the 16-minute mark, the Cardinals would strike again this time from Cullen Kane for his first goal as a Cardinal. The game would remain a one-goal till the 2:28 mark of the third when Doug Eglstram would get his hat trick goal and take the two-goal lead back. The game would stay there till the 11-minute mark of the third when Cullen Kane would strike again and make it a 4-3 game. Then just 12 seconds later the comeback would be complete when Andrew Pizzo would score off the face-off and we would have a 4-4 game. The game would change in the weirdest way with just under five minutes when Stefano Alzoni was trying to dump the puck down the ice Brandon Wells would try and catch it and it would bounce off his glove and end up in the net and that would end up being the winning foal as the Cardinals fall 5-4. In the losing effort, the Cardinals would combine for 20 saves as they fall to 6-11-3 on the season.Gallery

Oswego State Lakers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals - SUNYAC Men's Hockey Men's Hockey - January 14th 2020

Plattsburgh State's Ryan Kuhn (16) would score on the scramble play late in the third period to make it 3-2. The classic rivalry would be renewed as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Oswego State Lakers in SUNYAC Men's Hockey in front of 1800 fans at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The rival Lakers would get the opening goal of the game at the 17:37 mark on the powerplay from Alex DiCarlo for the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would fight right back an answer with the tying goal 40 seconds later from Brendan Young. The Lakers would regain the lead at 2-1 five minutes into the second period on Josh Zisek goal. The Lakers would extend there lead to 3-1 on the second Alex DiCarlo powerplay goal of the game with under 5 minutes left in the second. The game would stay there till 2:15 left in the game when the Cardinals Ryan Kuhn would score to make it a 3-2 and have a game at the end. Although thirty seconds later the Lakers would answer with an empty netter from Michael Gilleseppe for the 4-2 Lakers win. In the losing effort, Jimy Poreda would make 19 saves as the Cardinals fall to 6-10-3 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Jimmy Poreda (29) with the save on the breakaway to keep the game tied as part of a 23 save night. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals with fellow Cardinal Wesleyan in nonconference action at the Ronald B Safford Ice Arena. The Cardinals get the quick 1-0 lead as they would score just 1:16 into the game on the Brendan Young. Wesleyan would get the equalizer in the final three minutes of the period on the Danny Sorabella goal. Wesleyan wouldn't waste time as they would take the 2-1 just 2:30 into the second period on the Colin Cobb. Then at the 15:24 mark of the second period, Plattsburgh State would tie the game up at 2 on the powerplay goal by Christian Defielecie. That is where the game would remain until the last 45 seconds when Liam Lawson would get the game-winner on a rebound in front of the net. Jimmy Poreda would make 23 saves as the Cardinals send there record to 5-8-1 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Samir Abouelhana (28) comes in on the breakaway and slides it by the goalies pad for the goal and the Cardinals extend there lead to 4-0. It would be the second semi-final game of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic and it would feature the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Wentworth Leopards. It would take the home Cardinals a bit to get going but they would end the first period on a hot streak with three goals in the final three minutes from Rich McCartney, Liam Lawson, and Joe Kile for a 3-0 lead. In the second period, the Cardinals would get a pair of goals to expand on there lead coming from Samir Abouelhana and Christian Dahl. While the Leopards would get a goal from Jake Hallisey to break up the shutout bid and make it a 5-1 game, In the third period the Cardinals would go into conservation mode and ride out the period to save energy for the finals tomorrow and give up one goal to Nate Chase and secure the 5-2. In the winning effort, Christian Dahl would lead the way with 2 points and Jimmy Poreda would have 29 saves as the Cardinals go to 4-6-1 on the season, The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow evening as they will play the Elmira Soaring Eagles in the finals of the W.B. Endicott Gulls Vs Elimira Soaring Eagles - W.B. Mason Winter Classic Semi-Finals - NCAA Division 3 Men's Hockey - January 3rd 2020

Elmira's Nick Ford (18) with the goal in front of the net as he is falling to ice. It would be the opening game of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic hosted by the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and would feature a matchup between the Endicott Gulls and the Elmira Soaring Eagles. The first period would take sometime to get going as there would be no scoring there would be three goals in 9 minutes. The Gulls would get two goals from James Winkler and Stev Kuxhynski as the Soaring Eagles would get a lone goal from Kale Kane and the Gulls would have a 2-1 lead after the first period. In the second period the offenses on both sides would be a scoring machine as they would combine for four goals in the period. Scoring for the Soaring Eagles would be Nick Ford and Marty Kaponian and for the Gulls it would be Luke Rogers and Bump Lisk as the Gulls would take a 4-3 lead into the final period. In the final period the Soaring Eagles would keep up the fight and win the period 2-1 and send the game to overtime. Scoring in the third period for the Soaring Eagles would be Stev Kunchynski and Matthew Cuce. In the overtime it was starting to look like we were headed to the shootout until Elmira's Nick Ford would rip one by the goalie to give the Soaring Eagles the 6-5 win in overtime. With the win the Soaring Eagles will head to the championship of the W.B. Mason Winter Classic against either host Plattsburgh State or Wentworth. Gallery.
