Plattsburgh's Sam Bezio (10) comes after the puck as Saranac's Brody MaComner (4) breaks in on the net and gets knocked off the pu.ck before he gets there. It would be the second annual Aimee McLane Memorial Scholarship game from the American North Sports Center; The #14 Saranac Spartans would be hosting the Plattsburgh Hornets as the teams would battle for the conference lead at the season's midpoint. The game would remain scoreless after the period, but not because of the lack of effort on the ice, as the Spartans would outshot the Hornets 16-6. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 9:34 mark of the period when Braden Calkins would snip it by Shawn McLane for the first goal and make it a 1-0 game. Then, in the period's closing minute, the Hornets would get the all-important two-goal lead as Braden Calkins would find the net again for the second time and take the 2-0 lead into the intermission. When the team returned for the third period, both teams would go after it again as the Spartans were hoping for the early goal in the period to help down the stretch. The Spartans would get on the board, but it would be late at the 15:28 mark when Landon Giroux would score on the scramble play to make it a 2-1 game. However, this night, Plattsburgh Hornets Owen Chapple was up to the task as he would make 44 of 45 saves on the night as they go to 6-6-2 and will be back into action Friday night against the Beekmantown Eagles. While Sean McLane would be good in his own right as he would make 18 saves as they fall to 8-5-1 on the season and will be back in action next Tuesday at Saranac Lake to take on the Sara Placid Lakers Gallery
