It would be the final game on the opening day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and would pit the Peru Nighthawks and Saranac Spartans in girls' basketball action. The Spartans would take control of the game early on and have the 17-7 lead after the opening quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would play a little more evenly as the Nighthawks would find their defense, and it would be a 9-8 quarter in favor of the Nighthawks, but the Spartans would have the 25-16 lead at the intermission. When the teams return for the third quarter, it will be another evenly contested eight minutes as the Spartans have a 12-9 quarter and take the 37-25 lead into the fourth. In that fourth quarter, it would be another win for the Spartans as they would have an 11-8 quarter and secure the 48-33 victory. In the winning effort for the Spartans, they will go to 6-1 on the season and take on the Beekmantown Eagles on the second day as they go for the title. As for the Peru Nighthawks, they will suffer their first loss of the season, falling to 6-1, and they will take on the undefeated Malone Huskies tomorrow at the Holiday Classic. Gallery
