Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey: Saranac Spartans @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 17th 2025

Saranac's Evan Patrie (6) with the one-timer goal from Ashton Catlin (11) that beats Plattsburgh's Owen Chapple in the open net. It would be the Ameri-Can North Sports Center as the Plattsburgh Hornets would take on their arena mates, the Saranac Spartans, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action as they battle for the last couple of games of the regular season. The Spartans would come out on the take and fire through the first period, controlling most of the period, and Ashton Catlin would get the lone goal of the period at the 11:48 mark of the period to give them the 1-0 lead, and that's how the first period would end. The Spartans would stay hot as the teams returned for the second period and extend their lead to 2-0 at 7:42 when Evan Patrie would finish the two-on-one attack. The Spartans would keep coming and make it a 3-0 game when Ryan Campbell scored on the power play at 11:22. The Spartans would add a third goal of the period with 34 seconds left when Ashton Catlin would get his second of the game as the Spartans take the 4-0 lead after two periods. When the teams returned for the period, the Hornets would get one at the 6:11 mark from Braeden Calkins to avoid the shutout and make it a 4-1 game. The Spartans would stay on the gas and add a fifth goal at the 10:08 mark of the period when Landon Giroux would score to make it 5-1, and from there, the Spartans would hold on for the win. Saranac's Landon Giroux (17) with the goal that he stuffs past Northeastern Clinton's Greyson LaFountain (1) for the goal. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference match-up from the American North Sports Center between the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Saranac Spartans. On this night, we would celebrate the eight careers of the graduating 2025 senior class before the game. Once the game got underway, the Spartans would be in control as they would get the game's opening goal at the 3:00 mark from Gabe Moore for the 1-0 lead. In the eighth minute of the game, the Spartans would make it 2-0 as Landon Giroux would find the back of the net for the Spartans. The Spartans would add another goal late to take the 3-0 lead after the first period. In the second period, the Spartans would get the lone goal of the period from Nolan Miner at the 6:30 mark to extend their lead to 4-0, and that's where the period would end. In the third period, the Spartans would waste little time making it a 5-0 game 12 seconds into the period, thanks to Ryan Campbell lighting the lamp. Then, in the 4th minute, the Spartans would make it a 6-0 game, and Gabe Moore would find the net for his second goal to finish scoring at the 13:20 mark of the third period. Nolan Miner would get his second goal of the game as the Spartans secured the 7-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Spartans would go to 10-7-1 on the season as they head into their next game against the Plattsburgh Hornets on February 17th. Beekmantown's Edward Sweenor (56) with the bunch crunching hit on the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid skater into the boards and glass. It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena between the host Beekmantown Eagles and the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers as we stretch in the season. The game would be tight through the first 20 minutes, as there would be no scoring. The Eagles would finally get the game's first goal to break the ice at the 1:24 mark of the period on the Pierce Dominy goal. The Eagles would waste little time making it a 2-0 game on Novak Jarus's goal just 34 seconds later. Then, with just over two minutes left in the period, the Eagles would extend the lead to 3-0 on Novak Jarus's power-play goal and his second of the game to end the second period. When the teams returned for the third period, the Lakers wasted little time getting back into the game as they scored twice in the first six minutes from Ayden McCormick and Braden Harvey to make it a 3-2 game. The Eagles would return in the 7th minute and take the two-goal lead back on the Pryce Parker goal at 4-2. From there, the Eagle's defense would hold the Lakers in check and get the 4-2 win as they go to 10-5-2, and Jack Bell would make 17 saves as they head into a tournament this weekend at Salmon River. As for the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers, Cassidy Goodman would make 33 saves as they fall to 6-9-1 on the season and head to their regular-season finale against the Malone Huskies. Gallery

It would be the Saranac Spartans and the #12 Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks to finish a doubleheader of hockey action from the Wiebel Arena at the Saratoga Ice Rinks. The Blue Streaks would get the game's opening goal, but it would take a bit as Gavin Partlow would score at the 10:33 mark of the first period to make it a 1-0 game. Then, just 26 seconds later, the Blue Streaks would make it 2-0 when Daniel Klochaney would score to give the Blue Streaks the 2-0 lead, and that's where the first period would end. The Spartans would come out in the second period and answer right off as Nolan Miner would score three minutes to make it a 2-1 game early in the second period. The game would stay there till the 12:15 mark of the period when the Blue Streaks would regain their two-goal lead at 3-1 when Ryan Barlow would score. Then, just over two minutes later, the Blue Streaks would extend their lead to 4-1 when Declan Corcoran would score, and the period would end at 4-1. In the third period, defense would be the name of the game on both teams as the Blue Streaks would get the lone goal of the period with 23 seconds left on the powerplay goal from Daniel Klochaney for the second goal of the game as the Blue Streaks secured there 5-1 win. It would be an intersectional battle as the Saranac Spartans would travel down to Glens Falls and the Glenns Falls Rec Center to take on the #8 Queensbury Spartans in what might be a preview of the state regional playoffs game next month. The Saranac Spartans would open the goal scoring as Ryan Campbell would get the goal three minutes in and take the 1-0 lead. Queensbury would return and get the game-tying goal just 2 minutes later, thanks to Ethan Kelsey, and tie the game at one. Then, just 93 seconds later, Ethan Kelsey would score again and give the home Spartans the 2-1 lead, and that's where the first period would end. When the teams returned for the second period, the Saranac Spartans would waste little time getting the equalizer as Ryan Campbell would get his second goal, and the game would be tied at two. The game would stay there til the 7:23 mark of the period when the Queensbury Spartans would answer again with two goals in 90 seconds and take the 4-2 lead on goals from Sean Culligan and Rhys Roberts, and that's how the second period would end.
