Airborne Speedway Round #5 Highlight

Joey Scarbrough (11vt) with the late race pass on Jason Bruno (66b) for the win in the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified. It would be the fifth week at Airborne Speedway and it would be one of the more special nights for all the drivers especially the kids as it would be kid's ride night at the track presented by Sysco and Loremans with around 75 cars in competition. The night would start with the kid's favorite portion of the night as they would get to go for a ride with their favorite drivers. After all that and all the heat racing had concluded it would be onto the features and the first one up would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified for 25 laps. In their race, it would see one caution on the only lap as the front row Craig Worely and Mark Fewater would get tangled up battling for the lead in turn one. From there it would be a battle up front for the first part of the race between Jason Bruno and Craig Worely with Bruno getting the advantage. Although they would not be able to go out and hide as there would be a hard-charging Joey Scarbrough that would take the lead in the closing laps and capture his second win of the season followed by the Bruno brothers Jason and Travis rounding out the top 3. Then next up would be the Taylor Rental Street starting 27 cars and that race would not be without its own fair share action as there would be multiple rollovers in the fifteen laps and other cautions that would see your early season points contenders all getting caught up in it the Malay. Although when the dust would settle it would be one of the class veterans that would get the win on the night with Josh Laporte pulling it into victory lane with Luke Marcheski and John Michael Bressette rounding out the top three. Then we would be on to the Northern Blacktopping Limited Sportsman Modified and it would see Rick Frenyea lead the whole race until the last corner when Dale Gonyo would pounce for the win. Then to finish off the night it would be the Hartson Total Opening Renegades for their 25-lap race. The early part of the race would see Keith Pelkey and Jason Boggett chasing down the checkered. Although there would be a hard runner charging from his eighth-place starting spot and Shawn Duquette would capture his second straight win on a late-race restart and Andrew Fitzgerald and Keith Pelkey would finish off the top three. It will be a quick turnaround at the track as they are back racing this Wednesday, June 14th as the Super Dirtcar Series comes to town along with the Taylor Rental Street Stock and the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified.
