Oswego State Lakers @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals NEWHL Women's Hockey January 13th 2023

Plattsburgh State's Serra Benjamin (5) with the shot net to give the Cardinals the 3-2 lead in the third period. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would make their home return for the first time since the Thanksgiving day weekend Buster's Panther/Cardinal Classic as they would face off with NEWHL foe the Oswego State Lakers. The Lakers would be out to spoil the Cardinal's homecoming as they would get the first goal of the game at the 6:02 mark of the first period on the shorthand from Kensie Malone. Then at the 11:47 mark of the period they would look to take control of the game as the Lakers would score on the powerplay from Amanda Zenstein for the 2-0 lead. Although the Cardinals would answer in the final 40 seconds of the period on the powerplay with the Mae Olshansky goal to make it 2-1 Lakers after the first period. In the second period, the Cardinals would get the only goal of the period at the 9:09 mark on the powerplay from Nicole Unsworth to tie the game at two. In the third period, the Cardinals would get the first lead of the game at the 13:22 mark of the period from Sierra Benjamin to make it 3-2. Then with 1:55 left in the game, the Cardinals would extend their lead to 4-2 on the Nicole Unsworth powerplay goal. Although the Lakers would not give up easily as they would score 15 seconds from Avery Webster to make it a 4-3 game. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 17 saves on the night as the Cardinals would go to 13-2 on the season. The two teams will be back in action tomorrow to finish up their two-game series at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. Gallery
