The Suffern Mounties are crowned the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys' Hockey State Champions with there 5-2 victory over the Canton Golden Bears. It was Championship Sunday at the LECOM Harbor Center as all roads led to Buffalo, where the #4 Suffern Mounties from Section I took on the #7 Canton Golden Bears from Section X, with both teams looking to go home with the title. The upset‑minded Golden Bears opened the scoring just 1:58 into the game on a goal from Caleb Briggs for a 1–0 lead. The Mounties answered back 90 seconds later on a goal by Matthew Norum to tie the game at one. At the 11:47 mark of the first period, the Golden Bears regained the lead, 2–1, on a goal from Owen Logan, and that’s how the first period ended. At the 14:17 mark of the second period, Kevin Windwer scored to tie the game, and the period ended knotted at two. The game remained tied until the 14:47 mark of the third period, when Sean Tyrell made his presence known by giving the Mounties a 3–2 lead. In the closing minutes, the Mounties added a pair of empty‑net goals from Sean Tyrell and Anthony Ruggiero as they secured their 4th state title in the last five years. In the winning effort for the Mounties, Tyler Grossman made 25 saves, while Canton’s Gavin Schryver stopped 30 shots on the afternoon. Gallery.

Pittsford's Evan Weiner (57) with rebound goal to make it a 3-1 game in the second period. It would be the opening game of the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys' Hockey Championship at the LECOM Harbor Center, and it would feature the #4 Suffern Mounties from Section I and the #5 Pittsford Panthers from Section V in the Semi-Finals of Division 1. The Mounties would strike first in the opening minutes from Sean Tyrell for the 1-0 lead. The Mounties would strike again in the last minute of the first period from Sean Tyrell again to give them the 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. The game would stay there till the 11th minute of the second period when Sean Tyrell would score again to complete the hat trick and take the 3-0 lead. The Panthers would have an answer right back, though, when Evan Weiner would score on the rebound to make it a 3-1 game. The Mounties would answer right back when Sean Tyrell would get his 4th goal of the game a minute later to make it a 4-1 game. The Panthers answer again with 34 seconds left in the second when Casey Reagan stuffs it away in the top corner for the 3-2 game. With five minutes left in the game, the Mounties and Panthers would trade goals with Sean Tyrell getting his 4th of the game for the Mounties while David Pollard would score for the Panthers and make it a 4-3 game. The Mounties would add the empty netter down the stretch and secure the 5-3 victory and a spot in tomorrow's NYSPHSAA Division 1 Boys' Hockey Championship. Gallery
